Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

There is no fundamental reason foliage couldn't be functionally similar across quality settings, even if they're aesthetically different. It's one thing to reduce the complexity and quantity of leaves, say; it's another to have it look like an entirely different bush.

In general though, that's not how grass and foliage are implemented. Usually it's done with a couple, or a group of planes to represent a 'clump' rather than having actual geometry for stems and leaves. The rest of the effect is usually achieved with shaders and textures and a bit of clever manipulation of the vertices to get wind effects and so forth.

Because of the amount of quads you need to do lush grasses and foliage, people usually spend a good bit of time making it as efficient as possible. So generally, when you want to switch to lower settings, there's not much you can do to gain performance apart from reducing the actual amount of grass.

You can lower texture resolution and use a simpler shader, but that will only get you so far because neither of these are usually a bottleneck when it comes to foliage.

Best course of action I found was not to play it like it is H1Z1 KoTK. It has a pace to it that will take a couple of days of games to understand. I find that dropping and immediately getting a vehicle then going to a spot that is not likely to have players in will keep you alive longer and get you to at least top 15 most of the time. When you get looted get back in a dacia if possible (fastest car) to the edge of the white circle and hunt for unsuspecting players on foot if they are out in the open get to a tree or rock and pick them off. When the white circle starts moving and the blue is moving try to find players on the edge of it for the first 3-4 times when its getting smaller, they will usually be on foot panic running to make it to the white circle (guilty of it). when the circle gets small enough to go on foot ditch the car and prowl the edges for players looking forward into the centre. Watch your back but if you are the last man at the edge you don't really need to. The blue towards end game can take your HP down quick. When looting bodies provided you have your load out get First aid/meds pain killers or boosts anything else is pointless unless you really need ammo (100-120 rounds of AR is plenty). If you do kill someone in the open its not worth the risk looting as the shots have drawn attention. 20 bandages is plenty and painkiller/boost first then heal if you can.

If you drop in with players and there is no vehicle the best weapon you can pick up is a double barrel shotgun (S686) Choke (spread) and Bullet Loops (fast reload) make it unstoppable (unless your playing squads and get sh1t hit reg). The range on shot guns is not like most games it's actually closer to the real life range of shotguns 30-40m. uzi on auto fire (B switches fire mode on guns) can decimate up close but it is useless at any sort of range. UMP with a silencer is good at medium/short range crap at long range. Squads Solo and Duo's all have different play strategies. The M16A4 with a red dot or holographic sight is the best gun imo keep a 4x too if you find one single fire mode at range burst firing is lethal close range.

As for your FPS. Iv'e seen players with 1080 Ti's getting feck all fps. The game is in its infancy so you're better off playing with everything on very low except textures and view distance. I believe player render is a separate thing so view distance won't effect that its only for buildings/trees etc. There is a fps guide on steam that is working wonders for people but again you're not going to be able to play with all settings on ultra high or medium. There is supposed to be an optimisation patch in the next week or so.

Iv'e a 750 Ti and can get 45-65 fps but I tend to avoid cities, too much loot not enough time. Better looting on outskirts imo.

It takes 12 seconds to sprint across 1 square on the mini map 10 squares to a km = 2 minutes to travel across 1 yellow square/1 km.

That pace would have won you a gold medal in the women's 200m at the 1948 Summer Olympics, and a silver in 1952.

Bombs randomly go off. It can kill.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,994 ✭✭✭Taylor365

It's not unfair because everyone has the option to do it. Annoying, I'll give you though.

From a technical standpoint there's not really a way around it. Either you force everyone to use the same graphics settings, or someone will find an advantage by messing with them.
Everyone should be forced to have them on.

Removes a ton of stealth and tactical aspect to the game.

I've found I am far more likely to get killed by another player when I flee the red zone than I am to just bunker down and hope I don't get blown up.

    What does this mean?
    3. FOV Change
When attempting to complete Step 3, one needs to make Engine.ini writeable again. So untick Read-Only and apply then make it readonly.
    Open Engine.ini
    add this

    [/script/engine.localplayer]
    AspectRatioAxisConstraint=AspectRatio_MaintainYFOV

Note: YOU CANT CHANGE THE FOV LIKE 80, 90, 100

I want a wider FOV, is that what this does?

I don't disagree in principle, but in practice if it has the potential to drive players away at the lower end of the performance curve, then a developer is not going to want to do that.

It's actually been in my head to try making a multiplayer shooter that is mechanically solid, but graphically undemanding and then give players no options to fiddle with, bar resolution and FOV. I'm not sure if there's a market for it in reality though.

Havent played in about a week, one thing that really annoyed me was right click only gave me a crosshair with a 3rd person view, I had to double right click to ironsight which was so annoying, not sure if its a n option somewhere but can this be changed?

That's weird. When I right click it goes straight to the sights. I have to hold down the right click to aim with the crosshairs.

I tried those steam settings, and while they definitely improved performance, they made everything such a blurry mess I honestly wasn't sure if what was in the field with me was an enemy, a post, or a bush.

    EDIT:

Also I'm starting to get really suspicious that there is a lot of hacking going on in this game. I just had someone slowly come around a corner, aiming right at me down a dead end in a house while I was sorting inventory. They had no way of knowing I was in there.

Yeah it's working a treat aswell. Managed to get a kill earlier when lying prone on a cliff face in front of a tree, heard footsteps through the grass behind me and turned around to see him just in time. He was a good bit away from me aswell so it makes me more nervous about sprinting through trees in future or going through buildings

Just got this, 1st round accidentally went into duos and got matched with a lovely Donegal lad. Murdered as we left the first set of buildings.

    This is great ! :D

EDIT: 4th in my 1st Intentional Duo Match. Not bad..

Footsteps should not sound that loud. Had one game there and got killed by some low life camping in a building. The foot steps can be heard over lobby gunshots! You sound like a horse walking around. Walking over carpet sounds like you're wearing crisp packets for shoe's.

There was a patch released a few days ago that changed the footsteps i think. I'd imagine they're working on tweaking it. There's currently an issue with pinpointing the elevation of where people are walking too, noticed its impossible to tell if theyre on the same floor as you or not. Hope they can sort it soon its a bit annoying.

The sound is way off, needs serious work.

Seems with the latest patch, all they done was just increase the volume of everything, you can hear people running around in buildings two buildings over. No more sneaking up on people anymore, people running on grass make alot of noise too which just doesnt make sense

There is a walk function that nobody ever uses. Maybe the devs want people to use that.

    Walking?... Target practice!

Simple fix would be filters to the sound above different filter for sound outside!

They would be needing to do balance patch to fix the footsteps again. Update 1 footsteps were perfect volume just should have added floor board creaks the odd shuffle sound burst for indoors for outdoors twigs or sticks snapping and fence noise.

They seem to be overdoing things based on feedback from 10 year old COD players.

I tend to always crouch walk so maybe I didn't notice it initially but I do now.

Running through a town a few days ago was simple and safe enough if you went about it the right way. Now though, I barely make it to the centre without 2 or 3 campers in top floor attic windows taking shots at me for sport.

I honestly didn't think something so simple like changing the sound could completely turn this game into a camp fest and I'm hating it. It's frustrating going into every second house only to find a camper sitting at the top of the stairs with a shotgun. This seems to be the new way for people to loot the high quality stuff. Let half the population fight and run around for the good guns and med kits and then just sit still in a house while you hear them coming from 3 houses over.

Managed to get down to top 20 and I was in the middle of the new circle. I ran into a house and got killed by a guy who had no helmet, only had a shotgun and a pistol and didnt have a vest. Clearly camped in the building from the start and got rewarded with my KAR and Scar.

They need to roll back the patch again, it's worse than before. At least before you could try and be stealthy.

Its popular opinion that's going to ruin this game the dev's are great and so transparent with stuff people are going to start taking the piss. They will need to at some point take the feedback on board with a pinch of salt and do what they feel is best not what the community wants them to do at the same time not overdoing something that will drastically change gameplay which loud ass foot stomps do. I am all for the community having its say on the development but balance is key to compromise.

It will be shot guns people will be moaning about next. Which are the absolute only thing that makes playing for me satisfying. But in saying that if the footsteps stay the way they are I would be all for them being nerfed because the volume of the footsteps promotes camping big time.

I can't remember if I said this here or not but footsteps sounds from update 1 were perfect. All that was needed to balance out hearing other players was some more Foley sounds triggered by footsteps e.g. creaking floorboards the odd shuffle sound when turning indoors reload sound other players might hear that are in proximity of it being audible. Outdoor sounds of breaking twigs or sticks and the odd gravel sound a metal fence sound. All these things don't take away from the intensity of play and would actually add to it. How alert would you be hearing all that within close proximity.

Just died twice in a row because I forgot to set my weapon to auto after I picked it up :/

Ran into people aimed, fired first, got one bullet off and then stood there staring at them while I died.

Also just died because it turns out the shotgun I had was pump action. Rate of fire was horrendous. Hit him with both at close range, still killed me before I got the third shot off. I really need to learn the differences between the shotguns.

Patch one really was solid. All it needed was a slight increase in radius so that you could hear someone outside of a building first before they opened the door. I also liked the fact that doors were the main sound giveaway to someone in the house. Hearing someone crouch walk from the other side of a street is a little over the top though.

To be fair they have the greatest system to prevent hacking, and I'm not talking about BattleEye. Their daily and weekly updates and chopping and changing of the core code every couple of days would be nearly impossible to hack or at the very least make any attempt to make a hack completely useless in a very short time frame.

I remember I use to play a free to play game called crossfire when it was first out and the developers used small daily patches of 10 or 20mb to keep hackers pissed off. Then they became monthly updates and the game flooded with aimbots and wallhacks almost straight away.

The fact that the game will take at least 6 months to release or stabilise fully will ironically be it's best protection from hackers.

Finally managed to win a round tonight, our entire squad survived until the final 8 people I think.

IMO a massive part of winning this game is down to just pure luck of the circle's location at the end. If you can find a spot that stays in the circle you are sorted, if you have to move that is when you are screwed.
