Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

No one from the county board or any club representatives were invited and these are the people who make the decisions so it seems a pointless exercise, they can give out, bitch and moan and say they will do this and that but without representing a club at a county board meeting, they have no accreditation to change anything

I heard they agreed to start a petition.

A petition for what? Lots of smoke and mirrors...good to see the wheels being put in motion to protect football in the county but we'll have to see if the captain can steer the ship lad.

Big meeting on Waterford football matters in Crottys tonight...hopefully some good will come from it and it's not a PR exercise.

There’ll be more worthwhile conversations going on out in the smoking area than what’s being said at that meeting

What made it worse was this was deep into added time of ET and DLS had cleared the ball. Pure sickening

Clonea's first match is against Ballygunner, bit of a baptism of fire there for the intermediate champions, a tough opener!

Kildare showed where the power lies. Play in Walsh Park or we don’t play at all.
Anything else will reflect horrendously on our county board.

That’s provided work won’t have begun on Walsh Park of course.

Do we not need to have work done to host games?

Or can we host away as we are with a couple of thousand at it?

A decision needs to be made soon

If the games are too be Walsh Park than ticket issues need to be addressed then. The suites and sponsors will have to get there's, players families etc. Is there a possibility not all Waterford season ticket holders will be accounted for ???. There will have to be an away allocation too

The 2 Munster championship games ( Clare and Limerick ) will be held in Walsh Park. A reduced capacity to be confirmed. Also Waterford V Limerick is earmarked as one of the games to be shown live on RTÉ.

    TV would reduce it further

Once I get my tickets for the games I'll be happy. Going to be interesting what way tickets will work for the games ??

The limerick game could be do or die

Why don't they confirm this before the weekend and boost the sales in season tickets? Really don't get the logic behind how they operate half the time.

Alot of injuries for Sundays. Barron hamstring, dara fives, two lyons ,conor Gleeson

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,293 ✭✭✭Deise_2012

That’s what the panel is for. Plenty of lads are gonna see action in the first 3/4 games. Colin Dunford, DJ Foran, Conor Prunty and the two Bennetts (after a year out) definitely need a good run of games to get used to the pace of Senior Inter county. Looking forward to the new set up and maybe having more than 1 in the full forward line!

    Absolutely.
Would be great to see waterford back playing attacking hurling.
The last 10 years with Davy and Mcgrath have been too negative.
Here's to hopefully a more positive change of mindset.

Hard to predict a team with all the injuries and Ballygunner players unavailable.
Nolan, Connors, Prunty, Moran, Brick, Kearney, Foran, Stephen Bennett and Tommy Ryan are near certainties to start I would think. If Tadhg is fit he might slot in, with Aussie it may depend on his current conditioning. Shane Fives another very likely to start I would think.
If Barron is indeed injured then likely to see Kearney and Brick start off midfield possibly. Up front 3 positions to be filled with Shane Bennett, Dunford, O’Halloran (if fit) and Jack Prendergast probably closest to filling them. If Barron is fit I’d imagine Kearney moves into the forward line.

    Nolan
    Connors Prunty S. Fives
    Moran Tadhg Aussie / McNulty
    Brick Kearney
    Foran Shane Bennett Dunford
Ryan Stephen Bennett Prendergast / O’Halloran

A half back line of Moran, Tadhg and Aussie would be about as strong as it comes for us under the high ball, and indeed going forward. Half forward line doesn’t look great in terms of ball winning but still have Paudie, Philip, Barron, Conor Gleeson, Darragh Fives to add into the mix so plenty room to change things around potentially.

We also have to take into account the involvement of panel members in the Fitzgibbon Cup, which could affect their availability for Sunday. As far as I am aware, there are ten players on the panel who are also involved in the Fitzgibbon: Billy Nolan, Patrick Curran, Jack Prendergast, Colm Roche, Jordan Henley, Conor Prunty, Darragh Lyons, Michael Harney, Colin Dunford and Calum Lyons. Of these I believe that Darragh Lyons and Calum Lyons are injured. I also believe that Patrick Curran's hand injury has cleared up. Of these, Curran, Henley, Prunty, Harney and Dunford are due to be involved today or tomorrow.

Colin Dunford is finished college. He now works in Carlow IT I believe. Billy Nolan shouldn’t be overly impacted by dual involvement barring an injury. Prunty I imagine will want all the game time he can get to try to nail down the full back slot.
Most of the others bar Curran are likely to be panelists but it’s not ideal having so many panellists involved with so many already unavailable.

Colm Roche was also involved, albeit as a late substitute, with UCC in their win over UCD today, Andrew Casey of Ballyduff Upper and Neil Montgomery of Abbeyside also came on as substitutes, with Montgomery nailing a goal in stoppage time. Dara Lynch of Passage has started (and finished) both of UCC's games so far, in defence (right full back today).

Casey and Montogomery were a couple of our best minors and under 21s the past couple of seasons. You’d be expecting the likes of these guys would be a shoe in to start for their college teams....??

Footballers also in action Sat night in Fraher Field vs Wicklow in the league. Be nice to get promotion but very hard division to get out of

    10th Feb- Derry (H)- Fraher Field 2pm
    24th Feb- Wexford (A)
3rd Mar- Antrim (H)- Fraher Field 12.30pm (why not have a double header with the Galway game in Walsh Park ???)

    24th Mar- Leitrim (A)

Both very good players but both were taken off against cork last year in U21. Montgomery made little impression tho Casey played well but prob got taken off for being from the wrong club

Think they’ll do well to finish midtable this year, saw them in the McGrath Cup and they seem to have been a few retirements like Tom O’Gorman, Stephen Prendergast in the backs and Gavin Crotty, Joey Veale and JJ Hutchinson is with Ballygunner

Gavin Crotty was a handy hurler too and was on a few Waterford panels

Why did he leave the hurling setup?

The team that got promoted to Div 3 a number of years back had a lot of lads who won the Munster U21 in 2003 and who lost the final to Cork in 2006.

From 2007 onwards there was a big drop off in standards. We went from being confident of beating most teams in Munster and Leinster bar the top ones to getting hammered off everyone. Tipp would be a great example of a county we were pretty equal in standard to generally, and then they totally left us for dust after getting their act together at the same time as we went backwards.

So the lads on the senior team now came through those lean years, and you'll expect that they'll continue to struggle for a while.

Why not ? I’m sure he has put in as much effort as anyone else on the panel. If anything, others on the team will benefit from playing with someone who has the experience he has. He hardly trained over recent months to be considered as someone who doesn’t need to start

Half time in the harty cup semi final. Middleton a point up, 0-7 to 0-6. Tough conditions, dls have wind for second half

Absolute heart break for dls, leading by a point 3 mins into injury and a long range free dropped into the net, Middleton won 1-11 to 0-12. To make it worse the free was a harsh call too.
