Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Really looking forward to seeing baird. Looked a unit in school so wondering if it translates (ainger looked big in school but didn't quite translate to 20s)
Nothing on leinster site. What is he 6'6 ?

Aungier was big for schools rugby but for 20's/AIL he was actually undersized for a TH Prop. They have been doing a lot of S&C work with him this season. Wait and see with him, but the emergence of Thomas Clarkson this season will put him under pressure in a few years.

Baird is listed at 6'6 107kg on the irish website, which looks about right. He was excellent at the weekend for trinity, breaking tackles left and right against UCC.

JP Fanagan League Div 1 UCD U20A 34 Lansdowne FC 19

Ian Wyse’s men continued their run of good form with a comprehensive win against near-neighbours Lansdowne.
Two close-in tries (separated by a Lansdowne try) in the opening 18 minutes from Sean Molony set the tone and Ronan O’Byrne bagged his try in first-half time-added-on to leave the half-time score UCD 17 Lansdowne 7.

A Lansdowne yellow card after 48 minutes weakened the visitors defence and Ross Deegan ran in under the post (24-7). A James Tarrant 53rd minute penalty stretched the Collidge lead (27-7). A Lansdowne try on 68 minutes reduced the lead (27-12). A sublime James Tarrant touch-finder deep inside the Lansdowne 22 on 72 minutes prompted a quick throw-in which was fumbled and Marc Baker was quickest to react to touch down the loose ball (34-12). Lansdowne scored again with the last play of the match.

    Full-time: UCD 34 Lansdowne 19.

UCD: 15 Luke Maloney; 14 Ross Deegan; 13 Harry Donnelly; 12 Jay Barron; 11 Jeff O’Loughlin; 10 James Tarrant; 9 Shane Murphy; 1 Mike Varnam; 2 Sean Molony; 3 Chris Hennessy; 4 Cian Prendergast; 5 Cian Reilly (Capt); 6 John Fairley; 7 Mark Fleming; 8 Cian Reilly (Capt). Replacements: 16 Richie Bergin; 17 Ronan O’Byrne; 18 Rory Corr; 19 Jon Landers; 20 henry McCosker; 21 Marc Baker; 22 Aaron O’Sullivan.

Report from UCD game at weekend.

    Anyone got any other teamsheets?

I am looking forward to seeing Baird. The 2 incumbents have been very good.
Murray looks a fine prospect, although he looks like he lacks bulk. Hopefully, his body develops more. He is very athletic and gets around the field.
Ryan has been grand. His carries have been quality and he seems to have bulked up somewhat from last season.
I am pleasantly surprised with this crop of lads. Some good talent amongst them.

Yeah other than the lads from last year I didn't hold out much from this group but have been proved very wrong and delighted to have been, hope they can go on and win the championship now!

It's great how some of these lads look like they are pros already.
There's a feel about this side that wasn't there last season.
I can't put my finger on it and last years team had some very good players.
When I watched the match v England, I fully expected the win! I have never had that feeling before for an Irish u20 side.
Hope they continue to play at such a high standard.

Delighted to see Callum Reid get some game time so soon, the coaches must have confidence in him.

Third different sub tight head with Clarkson playing every minute so far, the coaches mustn't have much faith in Lomas and Masters.

Milne at th? I thought he was a lh?
    Young Scannell also involved.
This team looks to be the business.

Milne is originally a TH I think, but Leinster want him coming through at LH - probably due to Healy and McGrath being older than Furlong and Porter. Plus they have Aungier and Clarkson coming through at TH.

I really like the level of competition for each position - will only make them better players in the long run.

Milne has been tit for tat with both positions a lot this season. Given his size it makes sense.

Why "so soon", is Callum an u19?

Ah wish Baird was in there, but its tough to drop anyone

dropping Deeny wouldn't have been that big of a call given he didn't come on in the last game.

No, Reid is the oldest player in the squad. He has played two games of rugby this season due to injury and took a year out last season. So hasn't played much rugby since leaving school.

not this season he hasn't, played loosehead exclusively up until the end of the celtic cup.. played 3 games at tighthead for UCD u20 and struggled so moved back to loosehead, which he has been playing exclusively since including last weekend for UCD in the AIL.

it's disappointing that he isn't 1st choice LH, which would have been the expectation coming into the season.

Yea should of explained myself better. He wasn't named in the original squad, yet other injured players such as Allison, Baird and Moore were - so I would have thought that the coaches were just going to wait and see how he gets on for Banbridge in the remainder of the season, then maybe bring him into the squad for the JWC.

Guiseppe Coyne and Ryan Baird named in Trinity side to start at the weekend.

        17-0 at HT.

Casey/Byrne standouts in 1st half id say.

Italians have threatened with ball in hand.

Casey has been fantastic, but he's also getting extremely good ball from the pack.

Hawkshaw has made some great carries too as a strike runner.

Daft from the replacement loosehead for Italy, straight onto the pitch, warned for the first reset and then on the reset completely drives across the scrum and gets sin binned.

Hawkshaw did brilliantly to score that that. 4th try. BP.

Hodnett has fair gas, if he can add a bit of finesse to his game he'll be a player.

      • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 73 ✭✭stephen.scrum

        maul try for italy.

        will finish 34-14.

        34-14 full time.

tries from Casey x2, Penny and Hawkshaw.

Very impressive performances from Casey, Byrne and Hawkshaw.

        Pack overall very good.
