The upcoming Star Trek TV series has found the perfect captain.

After 15 years, Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Pushing Daisies) is returning to command the franchise that launched his career by showrunning CBS’ new Trek series.

Fuller started his writing career on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and then moved to Star: Trek Voyager, and has advocated for the franchise to return to television for years.

“My very first experience of Star Trek is my oldest brother turning off all the lights in the house and flying his model of a D7 Class Klingon Battle Cruiser through the darkened halls,” said Fuller, who will be co-creator and executive producer on the project. “Before seeing a frame of the television series, the Star Trek universe lit my imagination on fire. It is without exaggeration a dream come true to be crafting a brand-new iteration of Star Trek with fellow franchise alum Alex Kurtzman and boldly going where no Star Trek series has gone before.”

Kurtzman, who is a writer and producer on 2009’s Star Trek and 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness, will serve as an executive producer. “Bringing Star Trek back to television means returning it to its roots, and for years those roots flourished under Bryan’s devoted care,” he said. “His encyclopedic knowledge of Trek canon is surpassed only by his love for Gene Roddenberry’s optimistic future, a vision that continues to guide us as we explore strange new worlds.”

The new series will launch in early 2017 with a preview airing on CBS, and then will shift exclusively to CBS All Access as part of the company’s effort to bolster interest in its streaming service.

Hey, I seen an ad the other day, think it was on Sky. It was girl more or less talking to her self. Saying she has done this to herself, I guess she blanked her memory, any idea what it is or if good?

Kurt Russell and Mel Gibson are set to work together on a new drama about the violent birth of San Francisco.

The Barbary Coast is inspired by Gangs of New York author Herbert Asbury's book and the series will also star Kate Hudson.

Deadline reports that Gibson will co-write and have a recurring role on the show, which focuses on the birth of San Francisco, beginning with the Gold Rush in 1849 and the emergence of a unique criminal district in the city.

"Most people don't know the scandalous history behind San Francisco, and The Barbary Coast offers a rich portrayal of a period when success was often attained through illicit and brutal means," says producer Mark Gordon.

"I'm excited that Kurt and Kate are working together alongside Mel, whose astute direction will bring this devious time in our history to life."

    Omerta

Sylvester Stallone & Antoine Fuqua Plot TV Series ‘Omerta,’ ‘The Godfather’ Author Mario Puzo’s Last Novel
EXCLUSIVE: In a blockbuster TV package that will come to networks shortly looking for a series commitment, The Weinstein Company is behind an adaptation of Omerta with Sylvester Stallone to play the lead role of mob boss Raymonde Aprile, the last great American Don and his anointed successor. The Magnificent Seven‘s Antoine Fuqua is directing. This is based on the final novel by The Godfather author Mario Puzo, and I wanted to get out in front of it because it’s coming together quickly. A pilot script and a bible are already in place by Justin Herber and Adam Hoff, and a writers room is quickly being assembled. A showrunner and a female lead actress will be in place shortly. The networks will soon have their shot at it, with the expectation one will bite for a full series commitment

This is a disruptive move for Stallone after his Oscar-nominated turn reprising Rocky Balboa in the Ryan Coogler-directed Creed, but it also sounds like a strong next step for him by playing an outsize protagonist. It certainly worked out well for film actors, as when Alec Baldwin moved to television in 30 Rock and gave his career a whole new dimension.

Antoine FuquaFuqua and Stallone will be exec producers along with Harvey and Bob Weinstein and David Glasser. TWC’s Megan Spanjian has been putting it all together. Harvey Weinstein bought Puzo’s final novel a decade ago to turn it into a movie. It languished when script after script couldn’t compress the storyline down to a feature. Turns out it was better suited for an event TV series. More to come on this one.

James Norton has been cast as the lead in BBC One’s eight episode McMafia adaptation.

“James Norton is at the top of his game and I know he will do justice to the riveting McMafia created by Hoss Amini and James Watkins”, the BBC’s Director of Content Charlotte Moore said in a statement.

McMafia follows a Russian family living in exile in London who are involved in global organised crime. The series reveals a web of connections that join up money launderers in Dubai to cyber criminals in India, black marketeers in Zagreb to narcos in Columbia. In this world, race, religion, colour and creed present no barriers when it comes to clinching a major deal.

Norton will play lead character Alex Godman, the English-raised son of Russian exiles with a mafia past. Alex has spent his life trying to escape the shadow of that criminal past, building his own legitimate business and forging a life with his girlfriend Rebecca. But when his family’s past murderously returns to threaten them, Alex is drawn into the criminal world and forced to confront his values to protect those he loves.

Not a good start for Powerless it would appear...

I don't see this working at all anyway, a chirpy sitcom set in the dark and dreary DC universe ... In an insurance company. I'll give it a go but I don't have high hopes.

I had imagined it would be more of the slightly fluffier and enjoyable CW-verse (The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl etc.) rather than the disappointing film franchise...

Don't know if this has been posted but stumbled across this trailer, you can tell by the quality it's not official but even with all the effects work to be done it doesn't look great. Doesn't seem to be set in either the TV or film universe with mentions of
    Wonder Woman and Green Lantern
    which is even more confusing.

    The Lost Boys

‘Lost Boys’ TV Series in the Works at CW

“iZombie” showrunner Rob Thomas is sinking his teeth into adaptation of the 1987 vampire film that starred Jason Patric, Corey Haim and Kiefer Sutherland
The CW is developing a TV series based on 1987 vampire film “The Lost Boys,” TheWrap has learned.

The adaptation will be written by “iZombie” showrunner Rob Thomas, who will also executive produce alongside Danielle Stokdyk, Dan Etheridge, Mike Karz and Bill Bindley.

Hailing from Spondoolie Productions and Gulfstream Television in association with Warner Bros. Television, the re-imagining will seek to tell a story spanning 70 years, each season taking place in one decade.

Season 1 will be set in San Francisco during 1967.

The original film followed two brothers, played by Jason Patric and Corey Haim, who face off against a gang of vampires, led by Kiefer Sutherland, in Santa Carla, California.

The new project comes to the network after president Mark Pedowitz revealed in development projects including a “Friday the 13th” reboot and a post-apocalyptic take on “Little Women” were no longer being developed.

A series adaptation of Nicholas Sparks‘ “The Notebook,” however, is still being developed at The CW.

    The Departed

Amazon, Warner Bros. TV Developing Series Adaptation of ‘The Departed’
Warner Bros. TV and Plan B have teamed with writer Jason Richman to develop a drama series for Amazon inspired by Martin Scorsese’s 2006 Oscar-winner “The Departed.”

The project marks Warner Bros. TV’s first co-production pact with Amazon.

Richman is writing the pilot and exec producing with Roy Lee, Michael Connolly, Graham King, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Sarah Esberg, Tripp Vinson, Doug Davison and Gianni Nunneri. Vertigo Entertainment, Initial Entertainment Group and Plan B Entertainment are also producing.

The new spin on “Departed” revolves around a young cop who infiltrates a Latino gang in Chicago and battles the gang’s own plant in the police department. Like “Departed,” the series adaptation is also inspired by the 2002 Hong Kong crime thriller “Infernal Affairs.”

Richman’s credits include creating and exec producing the 2010 ABC police drama “Detroit 1-8-7” and another ABC drama, 2013’s “Lucky 7.”

“Departed” starred Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg. The Warner Bros. pic won Oscars for best picture and director, adapted screenplay (for William Monahan) and editing (for Thelma Schoonmaker). It also grabbed a supporting actor nom for Wahlberg.
