    Last Hope
NBC has given a script commitment with significant penalty to Last Hope, a drama from Child, former CSI executive producer Andrew Dettmann, EuropaCorp Television and Universal TV.

In his first foray into television, best-selling author Child has co-created Last Hope with Dettmann. Written by Dettmann, the project centers on Hope Wesson, a highly trained but disenfranchised former military police investigator who leads a team of fallen heroes who get justice for people with nowhere else to turn.

Last Hope reunites Dettmann and Gross. Child was a co-executive producer on the ABC crime procedural Body of Proof, which Gross executive produced. In addition to his three-season stint on CSI. Dettmann worked on CBS’ crime drama Numbers for its entire run, rising to executive producer. He is repped by Rothman Brecher and attorney Jonathan Shikora.

    Untitled Wrestling Comedy

Dwayne Johnson Developing Wrestling Comedy at Fox From Seven Bucks & Gary Sanchez Prods.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is going back to his beginnings for his latest project.

Fox has nabbed a hot comedy from the wrestler-turned-superstar and producer Will Ferrell, inspired by the real life experiences of Johnson and former WWE head writer Brian Gewirtz, Variety has learned.

The project, hailing from Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions and Ferrell’s Gary Sanchez Productions, received a put pilot commitment at Fox. Andrew Gurland, who created FX’s “Married,” will write the pilot script.

The series offers a behind-the-scenes look at a fictional professional wrestling outfit and chronicles the one-of-a-kind odd couple relationship that develops between a charismatic young character, like the The Rock, and a painfully awkward comedy writer new to the world of wrestling. A fish-out-of-water among all of these alpha males, this beta former sitcom writer needs as much help as he can get navigating the extremely passionate, sometimes crazy and always unpredictable world of professional wrestling.

“This November will mark the 20th anniversary of my professional wrestling debut,” said Johnson. “I was 24 years old, putting in the hard work, making $40 bucks per match and had no clue of the long journey that lay ahead of me with characters and backstage stories so colorful you’d think there’s no way that can be true. The entertaining show that goes on in front of the crowd pales in comparison to the insanely entertaining show that goes on backstage. Brian and myself can’t wait to tell our stories.”

    http://tvline.com/2016/11/17/holly-hunter-alan-ball-hbo-drama-series-cast-family/

Alan Ball has hit the mother lode, tapping Oscar winner Holly Hunter to play the matriarch in his new tragicomic family drama for HBO.
The Six Feet Under and True Blood boss’ untitled series focuses on the contemporary multi-racial Black-Bishop family: a philosophy professor, his lawyer wife (Hunter), their three adopted children from Somalia, Vietnam and Colombia, and their sole biological child. This seemingly perfect, progressive family is in actuality harboring deep rifts. Then, one of the children begins to see things others cannot. Is it mental illness? Or something else?
Hunter’s matriarch character, socially conscious idealist Audrey Black, decided — along with husband Greg — to build a family by adopting children from Vietnam, Somali and Colombia before having their own child in their forties. Once a therapist in private practice, she now reluctantly utilizes her skills as a psychologist in the corporate world, balancing her more progressive personal philosophy with the need to make money. Audrey is a smart, caring woman who believes she knows what’s best for everyone and has no problem telling them. But with her husband now fighting depression and her children mostly grown, she finds herself somewhat adrift.

    The Building

Fox Developing Fantasy Drama Series ‘The Building’ From Neil Gaiman & Angry Films
The Building is based on a digital film called Parallels which has had great success on Netflix. The original film was written and directed by Chris Leone (story by Leone and Laura Harkom). Parallels came out of Fox Digital Studios a division of 20th Century Fox where it was shepherded by head of department David Worthen who has been supervising a number of ultra low-budgeted productions for Fox since the department’s founding.

Written by Albert Kim and Leone, The Building involves a large skyscraper that moves between alternate realities and a group of young urban explorers who are in the building and suddenly find themselves on an Earth wherein Reagan was not elected and Russia dropped the bomb. They then figure out they have a limited amount of time to figure out where they are and rescue members of their team before the building shifts again to another reality. They soon realize that this Earth is also different from where they started and getting back may be impossible.

The series will explore the origin of the building, who built it and why, what happens on each floor and how, if at all possible, do they get back to their original Earth.

    Vampire Chronicles

Anne Rice Developing 'Vampire Chronicles' TV Series
The author says she has regained the theatrical rights and that "television is where the vampires belong."
Anne Rice is planning to bring her Vampire Chronicles book series to the little screen.

"The theatrical rights to the Vampire Chronicles are once again in my hands, free and clear!," the author announced in a lengthy post to her Facebook page on Saturday. "A television series of the highest quality is now my dream for Lestat, Louis, Armand, Marius and the entire tribe."

Universal and Imagine Entertainment had acquired the film rights to the book series, which centers on a 18th century French nobleman-turned-vampire, in 2014. But Rice says she realized that her stories are better suited for TV.

"Though we had the pleasure of working with many fine people in connection with this plan, it did not work out," she wrote of Universal Studios and Imagine Entertainment's plans to option the series into several movies. "It is, more than ever, abundantly clear that television is where the vampires belong."

    Glare

J.J. Abrams Developing Space Drama ‘Glare’ With HBO
HBO is developing a space series with power-producer J.J. Abrams, Variety has confirmed.

“Glare” is an hourlong drama series exploring the colonization of another planet. Other than that short description, no other details have been released.

Abrams will executive produce with Ben Stephenson and Javier Gullón, who is the writer on the project.

Currently in early development, “Glare” has secured a script deal. Warner Bros. Television, where Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions is based, is producing the potential series.

“Glare” is the latest collaboration between HBO and Abrams, who is an executive producer on the premium pay cabler’s hit, “Westworld,” which just wrapped its first season and has been renewed for a second round that will bow in 2018.

For Abrams, the project is his latest in the premium television space. The “Star Wars” and “Star Trek” director was an executive producer on Showtime’s short-lived Cameron Crowe series “Roadies,” and is also an EP on Hulu’s James Franco drama “11.22.63.” For Gullón, “Glare” marks his first-ever TV project.

With “Game Of Thrones” coming to an end in the distant future after its eighth season, HBO is looking for its next mega-hit. “Westworld” is on that route, but a sci-fi series like “Glare” could also fill the “GOT” void in the coming TV seasons.
