I just received the E-Mail from the Central Bank. It states that "All orders for the new Eileen Gray coin will qualify for free ‘Parcel Post’ delivery within the Republic of Ireland only."

That will save me a trip in to Dame Street if they will post it for free. Though I would prefer to pick it up next time I am in town for 7.75 cheaper.

Collected the coin today and asked about the advertising leaflet, was told they didn't bother printing one for it.

They stopped printing the leaflets after the 1916 sets earlier this year; the only alternative is to signup for the email newsletter: http://www.centralbank.ie/paycurr/collector/Pages/default.aspx

I was told that they wanted to cut down on the cost of printing and posting out the leaflets to so many people as their mailing list contains thousand of people that never bought the coins. They said that they would still be printing a smaller number of leaflets, basically the same number as there would be coins and that they would send a leaflet out with each purchased coin.

This did not make sense to me as why would you send an advertising leaflet out when you had already sold the coin. It seems that they have instead just decided to completely stop producing leaflets and will instead rely on the E-Mail list. It took them several years from when they announced the idea of an E-Mail list until when they actually implemented one so I guess their idea of setting up the ability to buy on-line rather than by phone could also be a ways off yet.

The postman knocked on the door at 08:00 this morning with my new Eileen Gray coin. I certainly wasn't expecting it to be delivered that quick and especially not on a Saturday. I guess the Saturday postal service has already started in the run up to Xmas.

When I ordered mine I asked about the leaflets and they confirmed that they will no longer be producing any. I can certainly understand it from a financial point of view but I will miss them.

The Central Bank website is now showing the uncirculated coin set for this year. It is the third in the 'An Island Nation' series and features 'Irish Lighthouses and Irish Coast Guard'. Issue limit will be 8,000. There is no price or issue date listed.

I got a letter from the Central Bank this morning, stating that there had been complaints about the quality of the Eileen Gray coins and encouraging anyone who was not happy, to contact them. They have also updated their website with a notice a shown below.

Haven't gotten that letter yet, but thats not the first time this has happened. I do appreciate the coins are the output of an automated manufacturing process, but to effectively issue a "full recall" is a black mark on their quality control process

Who were the manufacturers? I didn't buy this one, but the quality of several coins in the last few years had been poor, the Holland submarine comes to mind.

The increased cost, poor quality and uninteresting subject matter has put me off buying many of the new issues.

I haven't heard anything yet but I wasn't at the one day fair in the RDS yesterday (I forgot to post about that incidentally). I heard before hand though that the CB would be there but weren't selling anything at all. Don't know what happened in the end.

The 2017 annual mint set is going on sale in July, only 7 months late!
In Summer there will be a 15 Euro Sir Charles Algernon Parsons coin.
In Autumn there will be a 10 Euro Ha’penny Bridge coin.

I can't see there being much interest in any these and I am not in the slightest bit excited about them. Normally I buy each coin as it is released but now I think I will just wait until the end of the year and then order them in all one go in order to save on postage.

A bit expensive........ I got the second in the series of the inventor run at 44 euro and now the last one is 60 euro, that is some increase in price!!!
That's over a third increase. Has silver gone up that much in price?

The Ernest Walton coin was released on 13/01/2015 when silver was 14.56 Euro per ounce. Today it is 14.23. So almost no change in price put the coin costs have gone up from 44 to 60.

The actual bullion value for one of these coins is about 12 Euro. So the Central Bank are making a great profit even considering the minting and packaging cost. In terms of bullion value all the coins they have produced are completely worthless. They only have a collectible value and even then only if they became extremely rare or desirable for some reason. Which almost never happens.

Nice coin, one of the nicest ones in a while, but 60e plus postage seems very expensive.
I think the Central Bank is being greedy with the price charged, that and poorly produced coins with obscure subject matter means that sales of coins must be declining significantly.

Apparently they are no longer E-Mailing out the newsletter to people who were on their mailing list.

If you want to receive it in future, you have to go to the new collector coin site http://www.collectorcoins.ie/, create an account, confirm the account, go back into your profile and chose the option to receive the newsletter.

That's right. the stall is only for the purpose of viewing their coins. Any orders have to be placed through the Collector coins website. https://www.collectorcoins.ie/

Seems like a really stupid idea to me though. They get a good amount of passing trade and once off sales from non collectors at the fair because the 'Over 50s Expo' crowd that are passing by. I can't imagine many of them signing on to the website and setting up an account just to buy a coin as a once off impulse purchase.

Also what abut the coin fair sets. They were money for nothing, they were charging 8 Euro for 3.88 worth of coins in a bag. But now they aren't bothering with them either.

The Central Bank do have a stall at the show. However they are NOT selling any coins at this stall. It is only for the purpose of viewing their coins. Any orders have to be placed through the Collector coins website. https://www.collectorcoins.ie/

They are however offering free postage on any coins bought over the weekend. They have a laptop there if you want to use it. In order to get free postage you need to choose your coins and then go to 'My Cart' at which point a black drop down list will show the coins you have purchased.
At the bottom of that list you will see the option to 'View An Edit Cart', choose this.
You will then be presented again with a list of the coins you have ordered. At the bottom of this list, on the left, is a box entitled Promotional Code. In this box enter 'POST' and press the validate button.
This should apply a discount to your shipping. You may need to press the Update button on the right side of the screen to actually change the total.

Hi guys, I've been out of action for the past two months, was sick for a while and have now just got out of hospital after six weeks. On a slow recovery with a few more operations ahead me

Anyway, they did have the coin fair sets this year for dealers, not sure if they offered them to the public at the fair as I missed it. They were 10 Euro this year!

No. They had no coin fair sets.They had no nothing! Not selling any CB sets. U could order post free but going to a coin fair and not selling ??????.
