Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I've walked the grounds loads of times with no problem but that day I was politely asked by the security guard not to be taking photos. Had a peek through some of the windows, would love to get in for a proper look inside. My OH's parents worked there back in the day, must ask them if the have any contacts.

Yeah it's still a working hospital in places so they'll be sensitive about cameras on the grounds, understandably. I find abandoned buildings like this frustrating. I'm happy to sign away and risks on letting me into properties, but no one will go along with it.

You'd never know what you'd find inside derelict buildings.

That's part of the fun, really.

Can someone please tell me the cause of that light blob in the top centre? I missed it when composing the shot.

    I don't see it?

very faint reddish blob in the top centre. It's just flare. You're shooting at night directly into a pile of bright lights, I'm amazed there isn't MORE flare in the shot :-)

In that case easy to shop out.

  • Administrators Posts: 54,087 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

That should be a 2 second fix in Lightroom with the healing tool since the background is pretty much one solid colour.

I didn’t delete it but it was most likely because it was >800pix longest side.

It was one of a few images which were over the size limit.

Feel free to resize and post again.

is that limit there for display reasons, or just page download times? i.e. is the concern the dimensions of the image, or the file size?

Scaling. Not all boards versions resize the image to fit so you only see the top left corner and it feck all other text in thread.

    Cheers. Yeah, just one shot.

There was a thin band of cloud on the horizon blocking the sunrise but the light turned out ok in the end and it darkened things enough to blur the water a bit. I use a circular nd grad to darken the sky. Photoshop then to level, crop and bring out the colour, shadows and contrast.

Only way the wheels end up like that is a left to right scan...I think. Might that have been taken on a phone held vertically?

    (random question I know)

It was taken on a phone, but I basically wanted to see the effect of the riders passing at speed. You will see from the background, I held the phone still to get the effect, but it was held horizontally and not vertically

It was the track World Cup in Manchester last year (Team GB Women's pursuit), and I was reminded of it because of the current "speed" challenge

Ta, ye I got the stationary shot bit. By scan I mean the operation of the sensor capturing not you panning with the rider.

I've been using the Flickr 800px share option but does anyone embed (or know how to) from 500px at 800 pixels?

The argument you need to append is "&image_size=n" but that won't work as the signature becomes invalid.

They way to do it is programatically via the API but unless somebody creates a webapp to do it this will be very tedious. TBH this a severe oversight on behalf of 500px.

Thanks ED_E... yep you're right, adding that to the url doesn't work. You can convert the 500px embed snippet to BBCode with tools like http://www.seabreezecomputers.com/html2bbcode/ but I haven't found out how to limit the size to 800px yet.

I don't think he's looking for an argument, just some calm words from anyone who can help?

Thanks Adrian... I spent a morning in a hide up in the Black Isle near Inverness just for the experience, so you're "nearly" guaranteed a couple of good shots!
