Haven't started yet, people hat are registered with them get a text 3 days early that allows them get their specials early. If you head in and wany one, just tell them you left your phone at home, they'll apply the code for you

These are never worth the orginal price quoted. The half price is the right price.

I would say that some of the larger 600 models especially the one priced at €215 are probably worth their price. certainly cheaper than the likes of Woodies, B&Q. We bought one 2 years ago and have used it faultlessly for the last two Summers

I'm tempted to go for the 600 platinum @ €350 looks like a good grill for the price.

i went up and had a good look at these yesterday, I dont think the gas burners would be great, I would prefer a gas bbq that you put the coals into over these that heats the coals and then gives the charcoal effect.

What I did see was the 21" kettle BBQ at 70 odd quid. That was great value and a true bbq imo.

You can do that with most modern bbqs, remove the heat reflectors and add the volcanic rocks. But if you want a real charcoal flavour you don't need to do this, all you need to do is buy a pack of BBQ wood chips, put them in some tinfoil, pierce the foil and place it below the griddle of the BBQ.

The volcanic coals in a gas don't give the flavour to a BBQ by the way, it's the vapour off the fats etc. that flavour the food.

The deal doesn't start officially until tomorrow but if you have the code they text you, you can buy 3 days in advance. Have to say I've never been asked for the actual code once I've mentioned I got the text. It's well worth signing up for the text service next time your in store providing you don't mind receiving a text once a month.

Great Bargain Alert as I was in the market for one of the these. Went in to the Limerick store. Got great advice from one of the girls who knew her stuff. She told me that the most expensive one which was mostly stainless steel was less weather proof than the next one down and was €125 cheaper so that's what I got.

Code not needed as they are marked down. Flying out the door.

You need a gas regulator. It connects the hose from the bbq to your gas cylinder. The cylinder you want is butane and you get them at most petrol stations or fuel depots.

The connection come with it. It's Liquid Propane that it uses. Not many places sell it but I found one in Limerick.

Jeez... how much is Gas these days???? I haven't bought gas since I used to do so for my mother for the gas hob when I was living at home !!!

Do you need to buy the cylinder first and then just swap it empty for a full one ??? Hoe much is that??? and how many do we need for the 500 model???

Lastly.. how long do they last for?? if catering 2 x weekly for family of 4??

Sorry for the questions... but need to know on-going costs as well!!

I got my gas two year ago in b&q for about €35 and we've probably used it 20 times. After lifting the bottle, it felt like it was still over half full.

Got the 600 model myself and its an absolute beast but its a struggle trying to move around our balcony, my OH thinks I should of got a smaller bbq.;)

I plan to leave mine out with the rain cover that comes with it. Having said that I was steered towards and bought the connoisseur-600 whilst the platinum-600 looks more impressive but is way more expensive and has more steel bits that would be more prone to rust over time.

These BBQs specifically state propane only.

BBQs will work with either butane or propane, provided the correct regulator is attached.

Butane is generally cheaper and more readily available and the only reason that manufacturers recommend propane is that it's slightly cleaner burning than butane.

I've used butane without a problem for several years on a Weber without issue.

WOW... went to see the Store models this morning - that 600 is a Beast of a looking BBQ!!!

For a €10 extra - it nearly a 1/3 bigger than the 500.

Left confused...... think the 600 is better value but would I need that for a family of 4 ? Also - storage for the winter would be a problem for both - as my shed is already heaving and how to get this in could be a problem going forward.

Anyone else buy one of these over the weekend??? Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Decided to think about it for rest of day.....

i would go with the 600 its better to have the extra size,when catering for larger groups.i bought the 600 and done a bbq for 9 adults and 6 kids yesterday its was faultless.couldnt speak highly enough of it.it comes with a cover and gas reg too.

When im just cooking for the four of us i just use one side of the bbq.

We bought a 400 last year at the same price as this year - €190. In fact it was this weekend too, I've just checked the records. I had wanted to get the 600, but it was sold out. The 400 is plenty large for 10-15 person BBQs - we've had a few. You just need someone to come along every so often and take off the cooked stuff while you rotate the new stuff. Works for me.

It has been outside all through the winter - we had a BBQ in a storm back in January. It shows some signs of rust, but not much. The temperature dials are a little flaky and stick on occasion, but I now know the trick to unstick them.

We've also been burning Butane - I'm 99.9% sure that the manual makes reference to burning both.

All in all, they're a grand oul' BBQ.

I got the 500 for euro212. Very pleased with it for the price.
Been on the look out in Woodies and B&Q for 2 years to replace old rusty BBQ and this was a definite bargain. Woodies would've charged 350 or 400 I reckon.
And Yep, manual says at the back, Butane or propane can be used.

IMO these mobile gas BBQ's simply don't last more than a few years (at most). Lately I buy a fairly standard one every 2 years and just trash the old one. Parts are often hard to source and very expensive too. Even if it has s/s burners, there are still things like the diffusers which burn away rapidly, the regulating knobs which get tired, not to mention all the crud everywhere... The frame/chassis always seem to outlast the rest of the thing.

Went with 600 myself..... still in the box. Will put together on weekend!

is the 400 priced at €190??? Got the 600 for €225..

The €35 extra seems good value on paper!!!

PS... anyone know how much a cylinder of gas (Blue Bottle) is??? As I am a new gas user... have I to buy a cylinder outright now and then just swap out as I go empty?? How much is this extra cost??

I paid 53.50 for a cylinder of calor patio gas(propane) without a cylinder.
I think the price varies from place to place.

The guy in the shop said its 33.50 for a refill.

I bought the 600 3 years ago, still works perfect. The rain cover ripped off in the first winter as its was particularly windy. It has been sitting outside ever since. There are a couple of spots of rust on the temperature controls, nothing to worry about. The only part that shows a fair bit of rusting is on the carry handle on the left hand side. I ended up scraping the rust off and then spraying it with chrome spray paint from Halfords, just to keep it looking nice.

Whenever anyone sees it for the first time, they always comment on what a beast it looks.

Is it the traditional Yellow Cylinder that has been around for years??

Or is it the Flogas yellow cylinder (the one with a 'collar' of some sort on it) Have seen that today and it says Butane on front and weights approx. 11kg.

Or to confuse further......is it the Blue cyclinder??

Am worried that I buy wrong one...

Masala - all the normal domestic cylinders will be fine *as long as* you have the correct regulator for it. If you are starting from scratch with no cylinder and just a regulator from the BBQ box then the most straight forward thing is to bring the regulator to the garage/shop and say you want a cylinder to match.

If you go for a different cylinder then you will have to buy a new regulator and throw away the old one . . . which would be a waste.

Basically, any domestic propane or butane will do.

I prefer propane (also branded as patio gas) as butane will not work in cold temperatures but as others hav said, either can be used.

May not be an issue for some but I make pizza in the BBQ all year round.

We also were starting from scratch and bought the patio gas. This matches with the regulator that came with the 600 anyway. Our one is grey.
