Maavidal was 50-45d by Usman in the most one sided fight ive seen. Colby had an absolute war with usman and nearly beat him yet its masvidal who gets a rematch. Sickening. Id like to see colby v Gilbert burns now maybe

    Agreed.

I don't blame Usman though, he's favorite in rematch with Coby, but Jorge the much easier fight and probably will make the same amount of money also.

I don't mind seeing the Jorge rematch with him having a full camp, don't think it'll make to much of a difference but Usman out away any doubt in the first win.

Really want to see the Colby rematch, hopefully it happens after if this masvidal fight is real. Would rather Colby/Masvidal do a season of TUF and let Marty sit out for a bit though.

Colby in my eyes could beat Usman I thought he was winning the fight until the last round,

UFC must think Masvidal is more popular than he actually is,

Usman is clever calls out the man who is without question the easier fight, Isn't it for some kind of record win streak ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,438 ✭✭✭Still Ill

The Colby Usman fight was one of the best title fights in recent times IMO. Was expecting a dull enough grappling match, but they just stood and traded the entire fight. Was very close until the KO. He definitely deserves a rematch most out of all of Usman's opponents.

That being said, I think the Masvidal fight was one of the biggest selling non McGregor PPVs, so can see why Dana would be interested in that one. They have the excuse that Masvidal didn't he a full camp, I suppose, but would a second fight really do huge numbers after how the first one played out?

Anyone see the video of khabib talking about the Justin fight ,
talks about the problems in training & that but the interesting part was the conversation during the fight,
Justin really was a deer in the headlights ,answering Khabib question in there is bizarre,

    Khamzat retiring due to covid.

It's a shame if true, as while he was somewhat unproven he was a compelling presence in his short UFC career.

WOW! He must be ****ed and i know covid affects people differently with some suffering long term effects and i can't imagine how hard it must be trying to train with something like that. Hopefully it's something he can recover enough from to make a come back as he has so much potential. He's probably been trying to train through it, some complete time off might be what he needs.

Strangely that may be the case
If he retires and is taken out of the pool he could then go on a cycle to get himself back to where he was pre covid

What is the protocol with the testing pool on retirement and how long before he would be allowed to re-enter ?

    6 months on re-entry I believe.

He was calling out Niel magny yesterday. Bit of a drama queen it seems.

Steroids are actually prescribed to some people suffering the initial breathing difficulties from Covid. My sister's boyfriend was given a course of them by his GP in order to keep him out of hospital. Ho took those in order that he wouldn't need supplementary oxygen and they worked for him and kept him out of hospital. He made a full recovery at home.

Khamzhat's condition appears to be more serious, judging by the fact that he's been coughing up blood. He may have suffered fibrosis to his lungs. There are some young people who require double-lung transplants after particularly severe bouts of the disease. Hopefully he doesn't fall into that category.

If Dana said that, it's 100% confirmed he's retiring.

That would have been corticosteroids not “steroids”.

Usman beat Masvidal with ease, it won't be much different a rematch. I'd watch Colby and Usman again though.

It's a poor enough division, least interesting in the UFC probably.

Poor Khamzat can't even retire a day before getting a phone call from Chechnya to let him know retiring isn't a decision he can make. Of course that phone call was likely just the nice bit of cajoling he needed. Grim

Finally finished the BJ Penn video if you guys are interested. Fair warning... its 26 minutes long lol
Bloody nightmare of a video to make. Kept having to re-edit it to try and avoid copyright blocks on it, which meant re-rendering it every time, and then trying to upload a 2GB file after my ISP has hobbled my upload speeds meant i spent about 6 or 7 hours alone just re-uploading it... pain in the arse. Bloody UFC is like a ninja with its copyright strikes!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,417 ✭✭✭Beersmith

Thats a pity cause those videos surely only helps the brand unless you are slating them

Overeem and JDS have parted with the UFC seemingly. Don't think it's officially announced yet but they've been removed from the rankings.
    Surprised on the Overeem one.

I think the strikes are automatic. Bots just scan the videos for data that matches a copyright database

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,923 ✭✭✭✭mailburner

Very surprised at overeem being cut, rarely in a bad fight although his effort v volkov was one of his worst
He's still relevant in the he div though.

Jds well past it and hasn't the beating of any decent fighter right now along with 4 straight ko defeats

I guess though with both earning over 400k per fight and more than the likes of ngannou it makes sense letting jds go anyway

Dana clearing out the division for jones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,434 ✭✭✭Homelander

With Overeem, his record is still good and he had some great outings in his last few. Would've thought he had a few more in him though and people like watching him fight.

Won 6 of this last 10, and the losses are against top level guys, and the Rosinstruik fight he was winning until that KO at the literal last momen of the fifth round.

Wonder will he hang it up or go elsewhere now.

Man sad to see JDS and Overeem go. Two HW legends. JDS was one of my favourite fighters back in his prime. And even tho i never liked Overeem at first, i always found him too cocky and he always looked so smug, in the last few years he kinda pulled a Bisping on it for me, he just never gave up and really earned my respect and i grew to really like him. An era of HW gone forever now. Horse meat Ubereem was an absolute unit

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,936 ✭✭✭Tazzimus

If he ends up in Bellator we may see the return of Ubereem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,596 ✭✭✭smilerf

As per my comment yesterday they are still in the rankings

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,936 ✭✭✭Tazzimus

I was reading it on Twitter last night and it mentioned them being removed from the rankings, that obviously wasn't true. Yet.
JDS has commented on his release but nothing from Overeem yet.

How many fighters have went up/down a weight class to compete for the title, and ultimately lost?

Do you mean that were current champs of the divisions or ex champs or never champs?

Not many have gone down/up and gotten an instant shot.

Loads have changed a division and eventually gotten shots.

Yes! Meant to say champs, that went up or down, and fought instantly for the title!

Correct me if this is not a complete list..........

BJ Penn v GSP - Lost

    McGregor v Alvarez - Won

    DC v Stipe - Won

    Nunes v Cyborg - Won

TJ v Cejudo - Lost (Unique in that TJ was actually coming down in weight)

Cejudo going up and winning bantamweight

GSP winning the middleweight title i would think counts

I wouldn't count GSP. He wasn't champ at the time and had a huge lay off beforehand so could put the weight on slowly and be a proper MW as opposed to a WW fighting at MW.

Holloway Poirer 2 was for the interim 155 belt. Holloway lost that.

Was just coming on to post about that.

I love his breakdowns and work on BT.
Very disappointing news, wonder what the hell happened and did he actually do anything wrong or is it Dana being a dick. He already had beef with him over the Herb Dean incident.

BJ Penn was champion when he went up to fight GSP but GSP was not the champion
