Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Warnings:

Extreme warning issued by UK Metoffice for Northern Ireland - Take Action

    Met Eireann snow/wind warning

Didn't think i would have the privelege of opening another thread for an upcoming snow event this winter, how wrong was i.

A near perfect winter snow-storm scenario
    Midnight Tuesday
    Rtavn301.png

Overnight precipitation will tend to die to drizzle away from more southern and far northern parts as the Low pressure system reorganises itself.

With the low pressure centre meandering around Dublin bay over the coming hours with a slack flow around the centre until around midday tomorrow.

From around noon tomorrow the storms gradient will steepen as a result of the ingestion of some very cold air from the north, winds will veer from variable and strengthen to Northerly gales and severe gales along some eastern coastal districts. Meanwhile temperatures will drop sharply through the day along with dewpoints.

During morning a band of moderate rain with snow on mountains will stretch from ulster down through the Leinster coast.

Towards 6pm as a steep gradient develops as a result of the interaction between the cold and warmer air extremely heavy precipitation will develop over Ulster and push south through much of the country. The precip will readily turn to heavy snow through the evening and spread south through the night.

Winds will will strengthen to gale force Northerly as the heavy snow pushes south. Temperature will drop to 0c or just below towards dusk with moderate and heavy falls of snow even at this stage to low lying areas.

The snow will moderate overnight and push eastwards but will continue till around midday Wednesday in eastern and northeastern areas.

Temperatures Wednesday will struggle to reach 2-3c as the accumulations of snow thaw quite slowly as cold northerly winds follow behind the storm system.

Accumulations of snow over the Mournes mountains could exceed 50 cm's with falls of over 20-30cm's over the Wicklow mountains.

Accums of upto and potentially above 5-10cm's will occur widely through low lying areas of Leinster, the Midlands, Ulster and some other areas during Tuesday night into Wednesday.

I would urge extreme caution as this could well be one of the severest single weather events of this winter.

We are nearing April however and the snow should thaw relatively quickly during Wednesday but with the very cold airmass still in place and little sunshine likely, the thaw may not occur as fast as would normally be expected following a late March snowfall.

No sign of any sleet or snow here yet. Snow shield will probably hold YET AGAIN ! :(. Had this typed for previous thread so seems a shame to waste it.

Snowing very heavily in Limerick city at the moment :)

so we could see more snow tomorrow night down limerick way??.... its fairly coming down here now. settling on grass/cars... who knows for the morning!!
Nice start to the thread by the way:)

Yeah WC. Excellent start to a thread. Let's hope it 100% correct. Would an excellent end to a great winter.

Sligo remains snowless with drizzle falling and I think we will escape the worst of Tuesdays perfect storm with the East and North getting most of the exciting stuff. Ben Bulben will probably get its usual dose though so at least the scenery around the town should be nice for the end of March.

I remember in 2003 we got snow at the end of March and beginning of April in Sligo and then we had a very good Summer afterwards. Wouldnt it be great for this snow to signify such an event again. Does anybody in the Limerick area have any photos of this really heavy snowfall that they are getting down there because I am mad jealous.

Cold here (Maynooth), no sign of snow yet. Back home (Leitrim) they've had snow showers and high winds. Will the east coast see more of the action tomorrow ?

Well if we do see some decent snow tomorrow, not only it will be the perfect end to winter but also the perfect revenge over England after all the snow they got.

Meanwhile sleet is turning more to snow now:D

Its been raining in Kerry for most of the day. Has gotten very gusty in the past few hours. The rain is now lashing against the windows and the wind is whistling outside:D 5C in Valentia still so the cold air has not arrived yet. Hopefully it will dig in before midday tomorrow. Are we too far SW to be affected by this event?

Snow in Dunmanway, Strong gusts of wind and cooling rapidly. It was quite balmy round 8pm and I was stating to think that we would escape. But lovely big snowflakes are whizzing past my window. If only it would stick.

What is with the obsession with snow on here?

Some people like snow. Some people like fast cars. Some people like horror movies. Would be boring if everyone had the same interests don't you think?

Gosh you are such a fool! If someone has an obsession with planets or astronomy, I don't go on the astronomy forum saying "what's your obsession with planets"...same goes for EVERYTHING. Everyone has their OWN interests, be it pin-up porn or snow...

    Well said danni2! :)

They had it too snow-good this winter, whilst we mostly watched on the sidelines being teased by it.

I wasn't getting too excited about this snow potential a couple of days back, my snow radar had switched off with the onset of spring - but if weathercheck's prediction comes to fruition should be great, even though I may not see any myself, should be very interesting - bring it on!:)

Cheers snow ghost, I just had to say that:) I was in England there a few weeks ago and my relatives and friends over there were really teasing me about all the snow they got and I said one day we'll get our revenge and they all just laughed. Well I guarantee you they wont be laughing tomorrow:D

Anyway snow is easing now and turning sleety.

As a farmer I take exception to green grass being depressing.
It was that depressing deep freeze and burnt grass.

    :p

Warm weather and sexy green grass > snow and messy slush

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,021 ✭✭✭Coles

This is going to be very tough on farmers, particularly as the growth of grass has been so delayed. If this turns out as bad as Weathercheck suggests then there will be huge numbers of livestock lost.

Those same parts want one last snow day before the summer :D

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/
