Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Big Freeze Chat/ Discussion - Colder air returning Today/More Snow - 30/11/2010

Please continue general discussion about the Big Freeze here.

The general pattern for the day will be for the occlusion to push south and west across the country bringing snow inland as it clears away with colder/ Siberian air digging in behind.

Dew points will fall notably across the east during the early Afternoon and it is expected that snow showers and streamers will set up across the East and push a fair way inland during the afternoon and evening. The showers will turn back to snow in the coming hours for all areas and accumulations will begin to re-commence in more coastal areas.

Tuesday night and through Wednesday this theme will continue with snow showers battering the east cost in a brisk breeze. A penetrating frost, both nights. Likely for 10-20cm of snow to have accumulated widely in eastern districts by Wednesday night.

    Thanks for new thread. :)

Light hailstones falling here now in Dublin 4.
Temperature must have dropped as it was raining earlier.
We got very little overnight and a partial thaw had been under way
    until now. :)

I will keep updating through out the day for my location. Don't
    have a thermometer though. frown.gif

Very heavy snow in Galway city :D

By looking at this massive hump on the radar and the direction of streamers behind it, Galway is up to the most snow in years. Around 3-4 cm's now (outskirts, not city center), if this keeps on, 10cm is not impossible.

Still snowing here intermittently heavy then stopping. Around 8-10 cm level snow. Biting wind. Slight thaw is visible from the dripping from the gutters but not much. If this freezes tonight roads will be lethal this evening.

i really hope your right about the temp and dp returning colder readings later to turn the streamers thats hitting along the full length of the east and south east coast of the country into snow

    Chart for tonight.

Something i've never seen in such close timeframe.

Coldest upper chart for Ireland for last 15 years anyway.

As of 0800 this morning, there's more slush than anything else in the Stillorgan and Mount Merrion areas. Drove Deansgrange-Stillorgan-Mount Merrion-Roebuck-Clonskeagh and in general traffic was slowish but no slides, no tips, nothing to worry about. The wee bit of N11 I drove was absolutely fine.

As usual, Mount Merrion got a bit more snow/slush than lower down, but was driveable with care (even in rear-wheel-drive car). Trucks, vans and others also seemed happy.

When you say "chart for tonight" what does that mean? Like what time is that for?

    And what's an upper chart?

    Thanks!
