Sleet turned more snow-y here in d15. Although it has just started to stop and I see bluer sky toward the north now.

    Chart for tonight.

Something i've never seen in such close timeframe.

Coldest upper chart for Ireland for last 15 years anyway.

What does that mean in laymans terms? Lots of snow or just deep cold?

As of 0800 this morning, there's more slush than anything else in the Stillorgan and Mount Merrion areas. Drove Deansgrange-Stillorgan-Mount Merrion-Roebuck-Clonskeagh and in general traffic was slowish but no slides, no tips, nothing to worry about. The wee bit of N11 I drove was absolutely fine.

As usual, Mount Merrion got a bit more snow/slush than lower down, but was driveable with care (even in rear-wheel-drive car). Trucks, vans and others also seemed happy.

When you say "chart for tonight" what does that mean? Like what time is that for?

    And what's an upper chart?

    Thanks!

fairly dense graupel mix with some snow coming down in Clontarf/Dublin Port area. Has been coming down for about 15-20 mins now and making an arse of the ground

lots of snow fell in carlow this morning

what is south dublin like? are the schools closing?

I'm in the Knockylon/Rathfarnham area and it's pretty bad. Was on the 7.45am bus and it took me an hour and a half to get 5 mins down the road before I gave up going to work. There seemed to be school kids about, but wouldn't be suprised if they closed. It's starting to snow up here again now, not heavily yet but I measured 5 inchs of snow still on the ground outside.

with so many posters reporting a thaw at the moment my fear is that the ground will get so slushy sloppy and wet that what ever snow comes in with the cold front later wont stick

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,685 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

Guys im no expert but there is a major thaw on here in Monasterevin atm.
Im finding it hard to grasp this cold front thats heading our way and predicted snow in the afternoon.
Can it change from a thaw to sub freezing that quick?

Could people give a general indication of where they are, when they post about the conditions ? And if they've just walked/driven/bussed/cycled/whatever, if they can say exactly where they went, that's useful for others looking for guidance.

"It's bucketing snow here" is great..but much less useful than "It's bucketing snow here in Blackrock"

Thank you to everyone for the uptodate info!
