Ah stop!!! They told me if an agent is they won't be working there next week! that its come from up on high!

They change their responses to suit them.
As extrapolate said, depends on who picks up the phone.
Cancellations/customer retention. whatever they call it nowadays is the only place for best and final offers.
The first person you get only has a certain number of offers to keep you, cancellations are higher up on the food chain and have better offers.
Only problem is they now keep a record of all your offers so when you call up, they can see what you were previously offered which isn't great if you only rang up 2 days previously.

Got PM of someone asking about vodafone so my 2c on general getting connected and speeds experience for now.

Got connected to siro, via vodafone. as guessed they don't do custom install where to place AP so its basically at the hallway besides entrance, siro came over and routed cables via same underground ducting as VM use few days back, and today some company that starts with letter A on their van brought up modem and drilled the holes on the back wall, smth to do with esb regs was told, but imagine more to like finish job as fast as possible as placement is concerned.
total about a weeks wait and 20min job to put in siro box and connect router- as expected it might be in range of 2-3 weeks but seems everything in place now to get connected fast.

that said still not getting full speed stuck around 500mb on wired, and was told there will be few resets over 24hours and full speeds of 1gb should kick in.

But thats not an important thing as change was purely cost related to me to move away from VM prices.

now probably expressed this quite few times about knowing that router will sit downstairs where only mobiles are used as all pc's laptops are on second floor and attic room and everything's over wifi.
as house is fairly thick with plenty interference's.

as got almost month left now im on 2 active BB's so ran few speed tests and results are quite good given vodafone gigabox sits downstairs making it about double if not more distance from VM hub.

so on my main pc speeds used over wifi speeds on virgin media would be
in 70-55 range with ping of 12ms or higher
on Vodafone its hitting over 80-110 mb and ping is 5-6ms

attic seems to have biggest improvement over VM, as it used to be around 10mb give or take 5, now its in the region of 30mb only downside is ping of 30+ms and thats on 2.4ghz where second floor would be tested/used on 5ghz band.

so all in comparing wifi speeds seems VF router is able to pull extra weight and has stronger signal, as far as speeds go i was used for years to have average 4-7mb download's and never caused any major issues, been a long time since moved on from doing large torrents etc.

so cost wise this works out to be 480e for a year, VM gave me 6mo offer, as had 9mo prior so no budging to get any better and would of cost 630e if sticking with them.

now of course could picked option for 30e a month on 500mb plan and that would cut the price even further to 360e a year, and doubt if would notice any difference ever, as next steps are to get some sort of wifi mesh bundle once theres decent deals on and few network cards def need upgrading as they arent really performance ones.

for now sorted for the year so will see how will general uptime experience will be and dunno if VF has anything like VM with offers but can always jump now to likes of Sky digiweb etc when it will come to getting better deals.

Guess to sum it up all of the above if one uses wifi mostly at home and your pulling around 100mb, its def worth a change or to shop around.

I might have to go cap in hand to Virgin for some cancelation deals after Vodafone have well and truly ****ed up my Siro order. Almost 4 weeks since it's been installed by the engineers and still not working. Daily calls to them and each time promised it's only going to take 24 hours to fix.

Notice period with Virgin ends next Tuesday with Virgin. What's the best I could hope for in terms of a broadband only deal?

that was my reason to order VF month in advance as know someone who waited like 6 weeks give or take until right engineer was sent and did it properly in few minutes, even thou was long time ago now.

as for going back id say they will be fairly happy, should offer 3-6 mo depending on who you get on the phone, can always negotiate some bump in speed or drop add other bundles, just make sure they actually log your request, as my experience last year was getting call back with great offer, that wasnt communicated and was disconnected on the date, so had to go back on new contract get my original deal sent in etc, even thou it was just matter of plugging cable back in at their end of HQ.

Or go back under a new name to get the new subscribers deal

Would new subscribers deals always be better than retention offers?

Would have to wait for a new router though.

There is no such thing as customer loyalty. I have been with Virgin YEARS and they basically told me to F U C K off last week when I asked for a better deal.

I asked them how was it an "upgrade" when its exactly the same deal as a new member would get and they scoffed and said, well that's the way it is.

    Everyone should change EVERY time,

Called up about my Naked Broadband account and the most they'd offer was 6 months at half price so I went through with the cancellation.

Wife signed up as new customer last year with the free sky movies bundle. Think it was €69 per month, and we had 1 multiroom box. Didnt realise the year was over until the bill came in for €120 this month.
Rang up and best they will offer is €76 per month (with the sky movies €20 and the multiroom €11 removed).
But the loyalty offer is the price wont increase after the 1 year is up like it does for new customers, except for their yearly increases.
Told her to go ahead with the cancellation.

Not sure who to go with or just go as a new customer again.

On a wired connection, you should get the advertised speed or very close to it. Wireless speeds vary because there are potential local factors (thick walls, poor router placement, interference etc.).

Just renewed with vodafone at 25 for full year !! Better than 25 for 6 months last year ! Not a single issue for last 11 months !! Slower speed of 80 but more than enough even working remotely.

How did you get that offer? I’m out of contract shortly and looking for a renewal deal.

    Hi,

I was on a current offer of 49.50 for 10 months and 99e for the last two months with VM, 500mb broadband, tv and phone. I called today to ask about renewal deals as I have SIRO available. I was told SIRO was slow and VM was the fastest. I was offered 49.50 for 9 months this time and 99 for the remaining three?

Anyone get anything better? They quoted SIRO fair usage policy of 1TB download per month and said VM doesnt have a limit. I checked and Digiweb SIRO is 2tB.

    Anyone else any better luck?

  • Moderators, Regional South East Moderators Posts: 9,045 Mod ✭✭✭✭Aquos76

I’d say it was a 9 month deal you had previously, I’ve never heard of a 10 month deal, anyway if you’ve been offered another 9 month deal, then take the hand off them. That’s the biggest deal that’s currently available. I have heard of the odd person getting a 12 month deal, but generally theses are reserved for long time customers who have never had a deal and also takes all 3 services.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,624 ✭✭✭✭okidoki987

    Hi,
I was told SIRO was slow and VM was the fastest.

There's a shock . more rubbish by VM reps.
They quoted SIRO fair usage policy of 1TB download per month and said VM doesnt have a limit.

I wouldn't believe a word any VM rep says.
Last time I talked to them, I was told there were no offers available so I told them to check out boards as people on there were saying they were getting offers and was told that they don't have access to the Internet!
I was told by someone who worked there for a while that they check this thread all the time!

I got 15euro off for 9 months, currently 59euro a month naked broadband250, took 15minutes on hold and 2 minutes to do the deal.

Not sure if this is correct place to post but I've no other way of checking; is anyone in Carlow Town having Virgin Media Broadband issues this evening?

Constant buffering, pics out of sync with audio & freezing.

Have unplugged modem/did a reset; no point ringing 1908 as their CS is closed since 5 O'Clock, 6pm or maybe 9. No automated recorded message of an outage; it has the hallmarks of a DDOS due to its stuttering.

Just got 9months half price (250mb and home phone)

So after no one rang me back and chat said there was no record of that, rang loyalty again and get to keep what I have and with 6 months at half price, I'm delighted with that. Hopefully next year I can go the road of SIRO.

  • Moderators, Regional South East Moderators Posts: 9,045 Mod ✭✭✭✭Aquos76

I got offered 9 months €15 off on my 360mb, turned that down, then offered 6 months half price and have turned that down also. I had a 6 month half price in this current contract which is up in 2 weeks, so I told them straight out that only way I’ll be staying is if they offered me 9 months half price. He wouldn’t budge so I’ve started the cancellation process, I’ll buzz them in a couple of weeks and chance them again then. I think the issue is I only have one service with them these days, cancelled the phone last year.

Thats from a minute ago on a 500mbps connection
Seems like download is getting throttled?

Got Siro 1GB installed this week 35 a month . Virgin 360MB contract Ending next month so rang Virgin on Monday to give my 30 notice to cancel.

Virgin offering me 1GB plan for 42.5 for 9 month and full 80 for last 3 months , not as competitive but tempted to cancel my SIro in the cooling off period.

So far the Siro has been strong coverage wise , 950mb wired but only 350-400 on WiFi at best which is poor when fixed line is 1GB. Virgin 360mb getting me anywhere between 150-250 normally but can down to 60-70 at peak evenings . it’s 360 all the time since I phoned to cancel

Anyone have thoughts on the virgin 1GB? Appreciate any reviews

I'm on 240 MB; would there be a reason for it to be getting throttled?

All that uses it is laptop & it & modem're looking at each other; about 2-3 metres away like?

Unplugged modem & now it's 11 Ping 55.87 D/L & 23.46 U/L......still not within an asses roar of what I should be getting & RTE Player is unwatchable.

Why would you consider going back to Virgin, pricewise it's €35 a month against €51 for 12 months, 350-400MB on Wifi should be fine for whatever you are using it for even if it is 1GB on fixed line?

Tried three different advisors today, none of which would do an offer on their 1GB BB for me, 2 of the three actually said that the system won’t allow offers to be applied to that package for existing customers. I was offered a new modem and an upgrade to the 500mb pack from my current one 360 and a 9 month half price offer on that.

I think I may actually take that. Don’t feel like wasting another hour haggling with them for a package which they are saying doesn’t have any discounts available for. It’s not as if I can actually leave them either as FTTH or Siri isn’t yet available to my address, max speed through phone line here is 90mb

I'd take that in a flash, 1 Gig is giving a good bit of hassle. You keep your present modem for 500 meg.

Is it the new modem which is giving issue or just the 1gig service as he was on about sending out the new modem type.

That I couldn't be certain about. There's a thread on boards about it. What modem do you have? Is it the white hub 3?

Yeah, I have the hub 3.0 i ran them up and accepted their deal. I just ran a Speedtest there now and it looks like a upgrade has been put through. I’m unsure what to do about the new modem thought. I have a mesh system installed around the house and it’s working perfectly so I’m reluctant to change things now.

I’ve had VM now for 2 years and odd frustration aside it’s been very solid. I was very curious to try Siro but a week in it’s underwhelming and I’m still angry where they installed the point where I told them not too when leaving for work.

Also virgin installed 2 points in house , one upstairs and one downstairs so that offers great flexibility. The Vodafone point is dead centre of house in hallway which offers solid signal across the house as opposed to virgin box but was mistake putting it there as no use for hardwiring anything and it’s ugly enough with wires without adding Philips Hue bridges and cables on top. Virgin points are much more discrete.

It’s a pity virgin can’t just send me a box, an tech must come and install on 5th nov outside my 2 week Vodafone cooling off period so must decide one or the other as opposed to have testing both same time. I’m likely to cancel the SIRO for now and give the virgin 1GB a go.

I'm looking at 500Mb SIRO packages and a 1TB FUP would be an issue. ;) I checked the T's & C's on the Vodafone website and it looks like they updated them in May and took out the FUP. Is this true? If so then it looks to be a steal @ €30/month

My BB Speeds with VM're varying all over the gaffe at all different times of day; Techie was here during week; said no problem, that the speed was fine.

Rang Tech Support today, after enduring an hour & 7 minutes on hold (at least it was a free if mind-numbingly boring & repetitive time on hold.....) the guy (Irish call centre) said Night Flight'd be out with a new modem during the week which **should** resolve the situation.

With my October bill going out Tuesday I'm thinking of giving Vodafone a go now & for more reasons than just price; my IT Guy maintains 1. it's RTE Player & to reduce the Ps (?) I'm watching it at/on & 2. That my Google Chrome is fine, that the BB Speeds shouldn't be so erratic not to talk about dropping for no reason completely.

Currently on 240 with VM. Am I likely to be able to get an upgrade and a discount?
Also, if not, is Sky anywhere near 240 in practice? I don't really need an upgrade, at this stage, and I'm already with Sky for tv, and have to give them a call for a better deal anyway, so I'd nearly switch if they're anywhere near VM in practical terms.
No Siro in my area yet, sadly.

I think I'll give them a ring tomorrow and see what I can wrangle out of them.
Zero interest in a Gigabit connection- I only have a/c here- 500mb is more than sufficient. I was getting ready to hop- but SIRO isn't available (despite being on their map as available). At very least a decent discount and a new router would be nice- the beige piece of crap is getting more and more erratic.

    but SIRO isn't available

Might get a better deal by mentioning Siro is currently way cheaper and see what they give you, doesn't matter if you can't get it yet ;).

Cancelling today and was offered 500mb BB for €35 a month for 6 months (told to call back in 6 months to renegotiate) the €71 per month for the remaining 6 months. Vodafone 1Gb fiber for €40 sounds better to me. Contract ends in 2 weeks, yet to serve my 30 days notice i've been told I need to pay a €29.90 cancelation fee. Chat to the supervisor and tada! no cancelation fee.
