Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If even half of that is true, FG are corrupt to the core.

FG being corrupt is nothing new. Think M Lowery former minister for communication and DO'B.

Ah wondered how long it would take someone to blame those that don't set policy. What legislation to deal with high premia and fraud has the opposition blocked that was brought forward by government?
How is it you've formed an opinion on a question you don't know the answer to? As always I'm happy with facts. Current Dail arithmetic means that almost anyone can propose legislation in this area. Policy is not legislation and I suggest you start with how legislation is produced.

Your only interest in facts seem to be those that do no cast FG in a bad light. Are you seriously suggesting the opposition in the Dail is frustrating FG's attempts to tackle the high cost of insurance and the damage it is doing? Can you highlight what measures FG as the governing party has introduced but is being twarted?

FG used to maintain a higher standard as an alternative to FF. Lowry was expelled from the party years before Moriarty findings for example.
For whatever reason they no longer have these principles which is sad.

Me no. They are doing that all by themselves. Why does the use of facts somehow make someone a defender of questionable performance? As for the legislation there is a FF PMB, which is at the 2nd stage.

Was the Moriarty released and the findings acted on? DO'B was found to be a corrupt individual yet Enda Kenny when Taoiseach was happy to share the Dias at the NYSE with him.

I am absolutely positive that Madigan is heavily involved. Time will tell.

This article on John and Maria Bailey is interesting...

The electorate in Dun Laoghaire must be a forgiving bunch.

    That’s fairly damning if true.
And he got away with it.

Procedure in the legislature is that if the government has decided not to oppose a bill it goes through its stages to eventually become law. They don't propose their own so not much thwarting going on.

So you agree that no-one is thwarting FG in their attempt as the party of government to deal with crippling insurance costs. So what legislation has FG brought forward to deal with the situation? I can't find any.

You reckon those two are largely responsible for high insurance premiums?

Not solely, but they evidently aren't a fanny hair better than the welfare scammers they and their party like to encourage us to rat out.

Insurance fraud - just like welfare fraud hurts us all.

No- I was taking pre Kenny FG. Bruton expelled Lowry when it was discovered Ben Dunne paid for his house extension back in the 1980s. No internal reports, no spin. Just bye bye. FG no longer have these principles as evidenced by the inaction on Moriarty and now Bailey/Madigan/Farrell.

Slogans like we help those who get up early, not another red cent and Insurance cheats, cheat us all are so hollow now they make FF look a better option. How they could do that in 8 short years is anyone's guess. Its more a pity than an outrage however.

We need a party in Ireland that stand for the things FG claim to stand for, but one that actually backs it up with actions.

Not really, dude. SF are a spent docket. Having nothing only gibberish to offer the people. Can see them becoming part of the Labour Party within 10 years. Like the stickies before them. The only appeal of sf to some people was the likes of Adams and the lad who can’t read down in Kerry. The lad who picked up the killers of Sergeant Jerry McCabe. The Ferris gombeen.

But Doherty's insurance showboating in the Oireachtas Committee managed to con the imbecilic Una Mullally to write a simpering column about him in the Irish Times. And that will probably influence some of the airheads who read her drivel.

The report was referred to the DPP and AGS, which, in case you weren't aware, are the bodies tasked with initiating prosecutions in this country.

Contrary to the impression of many of the bottom feeders contributing (sic) to this thread, politicians - even Taoisigh - aren't able to initiate prosecutions.

Unbelievable, Doherty shows up the insurance industry for gouging the public yet a bunch of (i'll be infracted if I use the word) 'posters' here and elsewhere are attacking Doherty. Skin in the game lads?

That chimerical Party was once called the Pee Dees. Currently it's called the Soc Dems. Before I pass away, it will probably have had quite a few more name changes.

But cosmetics apart, nothing will change. Rather like Saint Augustine, the vast majority of the Irish people don't want to be made pure, just yet.

Sad for the family and I wish them comfort. However sympathy will not make people forget her behaviour and that of Leo's handling. It would be even more distasteful if some tried to use the man's passing as a 'get out of jail card'.

I'm not posting here in an attempt to seek popularity. And I certainly don't seek any credibility from the brainless demographic.

I was merely expressing my hearty contempt for the prolix, opinionated, bilious windbags who genuinely haven't the first clue about how things work in a democracy, but still consider that their ill-informed rantings have a degree of merit.

Arrogance is a nasty attribute, nothing to be celebrated tbh. Calling others names and vacuous insults is the last vestige of someone who has nothing to say of any import. Reply to my comment if you wish but you will receive no reply. Have a good one.

If that's what you wanted to get from all of this then what can I say. There is a FF sponsored bill underway and at some point it will become law. I expect it to have cross-party input in amendments before enactment.

Councillors Bailey's passing is sad and I hope as I already said I hope his family finds comfort. Maria's attempt at an inflated claim is a separate issue and your attempt to conflate the two is disgusting and pathetic.

But life still goes on. My sympathies to the Bailey family at the passing of their father but death is the final part of life. It will happen us all.

    What perspective?

Are we to overlook shortcomings and corruption based on deaths of loved ones?

Sad time for the Bailey household, and they have my sincere condolences, but cllr Bailey's death should have absolutely no bearing on the outcome of this predicament Maria and others find themselves in.

If Madigan had not been Bailey's legal representative, the simple Expedient of answering No, would have ended speculation about her involvement.
That proceedings opened in 2016, and Madigan did not step down from her firm until late 2017, is also a quite telling indicator of the source of the advice provided to Bailey.

Mick Clifford in the Examiner had a good article on the fiasco the other day. He made the valid point that both Bailey and Madigan could forgo client-solicitor privledge at any point they want. Now given Madigan is taking political heat over Baileys case if she didnt have any involvement in advising Bailey then they could just simply issue a joint statement saying that she didn't have any involvement. The fact they havent issued this statement speaks volumes. Madigan continues to allow her whole constituency to see her as an ambulance chaser. Now as a vote seeking politician why would you do that if it wasn't true?

The two are not related, and attempting to do so is nonsense.

I can feel sympathy for their personal loss and still be deeply unsatisfied with the events surrounding Maria and indeed some of the previous activities of her father as others have posted about here.

I suspect you know that though.
