So much for a development squad. Hard to see many, if any, make a step up from that intermediate team to the seniors.
Some good players there, just a bit weak in the forwards. Dalton, Barry, Browne, Buckley and O'Neill are all decent prospects. O'Neill and Dalton will end up on the seniors eventually, and Buckley and Browne have been involved before.

First opinions would be how do we win a puck out? If we're looking for short puckouts like Tipp did to us two years ago then Collins may be a better choice in goal.

We're going to be extremely reliant on the pace of our forwards against what admittedly is a slowish Tipp back line but we'll need good ball struck to beat the spare man Tipp will have as a result of our sweeper. Think it's going to be very tough for us.

Jesus, where are we going with 2 Aghada men on the cork senior hurling panel...

Looks like we will have harnedy as a one man full forward line. Time for Alan cad to step up he has been quiet last year after his blistering start at inter county level. He needs to improve on his one trick of out in front and turn and run. Lehane has the potential of being hurler of the year but has to improve on his Houdini act of disappearing for long spells. A lot of pressure on Ellis Sunday, let's just hope sully has them trained like animals at the back.

Up the rebels can't wait for Sunday

If the forwards don't click there isn't much to come in really from the subs. Luke o Farrell is the only one I'd see make any sort of impression

Tipp by comparsion will have the likes of Bonner Maher and Jason Forde to bring in plus Kieran Bergin further back.

Has never done it at this level, need more then simply being fast. Weakest list of subs I have ever seen, seems remarkable that 3 weeks after an all Ireland under 21 football final sean o Donoghue is good enough to step up to the bench at this level, how much hurling has he done?the conservative selections all throughout a disastrous league will hurt us when we are looking at young untried players in the last 20 minutes, while tipp are able to bring on the likes of bonnar maher..........same bunch of defenders that have blown up countless times before with a keeper who really needs to have improved substantially from last year...........tipp by 5/6

Fully agree with you about Nash. He is costing us atleast 4/5 points a game with trying to break the ball from puck outs. I would much prefere if he drop the ball infront of the forwards than 3 foot over there heads which gives the defence a huge advantage. Saying that we get out numbered 2 to 1 under the puck outs and besides harnedy we have no ball winners. I expect a lot of short puck ours and playing into the space from there for Alan cad, cooper and Conor to run on to. We will get scores of this tipp back line but I think more import is we can't give the tipp backs time and space to puck out long balls. We won't hold the tipp forwards but our forwards can stop the ball into them.

Luke O'Farrell hasn't been fast since he was a Minor. Its his biggest problem, along with his terrible shooting from tight angles.

Best of luck to all today, the summer starts here. Hopefully we see intensity like the league game v Kilkenny, come what may after that.

Fingers crossed it's the intensity of first 60 min against kk. The changes from the bench really hurt us that day and could again today.

This game could really go either way. If our intensity is right we will give them a good game, but if like most of the league, we will lose handsomely. Hard to call. Can't see beyond tipp though.

Very damp conditions cork have a bit of a height advantage looking at them lining up.
Egan as a sweeper will have a huge bearing on it.

Horrible conditions for a hurling match.

Tip are a level above us. Sweeper system is working well so far....in as far as tip haven't had a single effort on goal. But they don't need goals when they can score from distance and from by the sideline. The ball out of our defence is shocking, brutal in fact.

Cahalane will be sent off in the second half I reckon. Nice to see Aidan Walsh on.

Awful stuff. The style of hurling is horrific. Stupid short passes into traffic or else long ball straight at Tipp. This sweeper system is making hurling unwatchable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,445 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

Still persisting with the sweeper even though 8pts down. Ridiculous.

    Ft Tipp 0-22 v Cork 0-13

Well beaten. Better second half , had a free to bring it back to 6 but Hoggie decided to go for goal- very poor decision. I wonder was he told to put it over the bar as he was dragged minutes later. He offered little in general play, same could be said for most of the fowards, cadigan aside.

If we can deliver better ball into the fowards, they will score, a lot to work on.

    Qualifiers will be interesting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,445 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

Very sad really. Players not good enough. Sideline not good enough. Tipp were in first gear for the second half and comfortably won. I lost count of the number of times Cork miss-hit the ball or hit it straight to Tipp lads or got easily dispossessed. Awful lack of skills. Easy game for Tipp.

Without trying to be over reactionary and dramatic lads, as a Tipp man I am seriously concerned about the future of Cork hurling, that was god awful and it's gone past a problem its a full blown crisis.

I've been attending Tipp/Cork matches for as long as I can remember and seldom can I remember such a feable effort, even in the late 70's early 80's when Cork were totally dominant I don't think Tipp were ever as far off the pace as Cork were today, if Tipp wanted they could have won by 15 plus points.

Hurling is in a much better place with a strong Cork, I really hope its a blip but all the evidence suggest otherwise.

Too right there was a lot of talk about us being up for the match ready to make a statement but this was the worst performance I can remember in a long time. The sweeper system played into your hands as harnedy was swamped ended up out around the middle trying to pick up ball.

Sure Egan hurled plenty of ball but had no one to hit hoggie, Lehane won no ball cooper tried hard but like Walsh lacks the hurling cadogan are best forward we surely need to go back to 15 on 15 it cannot be any worse than toda.

Just back from Thurles. Too tired to write anything more substantial at the moment. Shortest summary is over powered, out thought and completely and utterly out hurled and outclassed. Depressing stuff.

desperately disappointing but today was coming and many more to come. much the same group of players who have suffered beatings in recent years and there are few if any standout players being overlooked. These are the players we have. We need underage progress but for a few this years minors to become seniors is a 5 year wait, and that's just getting 1 or 2. it will be 10 years before we get anywhere near Liam again.

sure we might win a game or 2 in the qualifiers but the future is very bleak. Gone from winning back to back All Irelands and contesting 2 more to the worst team in Munster in 12 years. :(
