Funny you mention that because I managed to get a brochure of the models haha! Its fairly nice too its like a book, now that I think of it I don't think it was there to take. Ah well at least I have a book full of scale models you can order from VW. They were giving out egg cups too or something?

Did they give you it in the VW bag too? Did you have to ask as well?

They were giving them with a gimmicky offer last year for 152's. Got a cool little USB key (looks like the car key), pens, umbrellas, mugs, torch, key rings. I've enough VW merchandise to set up a stall.

The model car was bought for this purpose in mind...

Do you love the car or the girl more Joe?

I'm not sure if civil partnership laws allow you to marry VW products.

Insurance renewal for me this year is €725 (initially was €786), GTI PP.

Looks like Joe is closer to the car on that cake than he is to the missus, so I guess that answers that. ;)

Well the GTI is long gone and herself is still here... So..... ;)

You were well positioned for a hasty escape though... ;)

I read elsewhere this morning that the GTI PP is now no longer being manufactured. No more factory orders for the GTI PP. It's being replaced in the lineup by the Clubsport...

Ouch. That looks expensive. And dead, very dead.

I used to complain about ACC sometimes wanting "normal" cruise control. Be careful what you wish for as that's now what I have :)

The sensor looks undamaged, the surround is just a plastic clip and is back in now. Hopefully just a matter of straitening it up again as I think that's all that is wrong. No errors or anything on dash.

I would have thought the club sport to be a much more raw machine than gti pp.

Is it not priced more if not the same almost as the R in the UK?
Maybe we will get our own spec club sport priced mid way between gti and R ?

I wonder if this makes my gti pp more valuable as they have turned out to be limited edition?!

I haven't seen any Irish pricing for the Clubsport here or specs for that matter. I've no doubt VW Ireland will bring it in but it'll be mid June before we see the details. But dropping the PP does sound like scaling back production a bit tbh, in advance of the MK8...

As a guideline... In the UK, there is literally pennies between it and the R. Add the seats (surely a must have), the black roof and wheel options and it's £££ well over the R. And with that shelled out you have a car with that extra few bhp still going through 2 front wheels.

Then there's other spec oddities like losing ambient lights, armrest, auto cruise (like vintage's R ;))...

My dealer told me it would be low 50's for the clubsport, he called VW's product guy at the time. That was a few months ago.

Yeah my lack of ACC means my car is a more track focused animal, adds value really. Strip it out and charge more as a lot of companies like to do :)

So I got my active cruise sorted. No damage at all, the outer plastic cover that is out of place in the picture just clips in and out very easy. I was surprised not even a clip was damaged considering how fast that bird flew into it. Didn't even need to bring it to vw.

    That's a great result.

So did you get a very brief "Collision Detection" warning on the dash before Mr Birdy died ? ;)

More a collision detected thud :)

I wonder, can you turn off adaptive cruise and make it regular cruise control by turning off the front sensor with the button on the end of the left stalk?
I'm surprised you don't like the adaptive vintage. I thought with the auto gearbox it would make a perfect stress free drive.

I think it's brilliant on motorway runs and if you're in slow moving stop / start traffic in town... With DSG.
Outside of that I never use it.

I'd like the option to knock it off just. Sometimes it's great if you're not in a hurry. If you're doing a lot of over taking and making progress it's more hassle than its worth. I often drive on open quiet roads at night and used to set cruise to a speed and cruise past when over taking. With access you have to override it with each overtake. No biggie.

Turning front assist off does not impact acc by the way. Just tried it

Any ideas what VW will have in store for 162 Reg promotions?

Was talking to a sales guy today who said it will be an enhanced tech pack - might be more too

I was in a merc/VW dealer down the country at the weekend.
Sales manager said that VW in Ireland are well down this year on where they want to be. He put it down to the negative VW publicity and the rise of Hyundai especially with the new Tucson.
According to him Hyundai Ireland were on a mission to get top sales spot in Ireland regardless of cost and were pre registering even more than VW and doing deals where there was hardly any profit just to get cars on the road.
He expected VW to fight back in the second half of the year with new deals.

    App connect activation.

I called my salesman about two weeks ago about this, said he would get back to me with a price the following day. A week later I called him as he never did. He had forgotten all about me. Said he would call me the following day again with a price. That was over a week ago and still hasn't called.

Small stuff like this is simple. Tell someone you will call them, then call them. Tell them you'll call them after you forgot the last time, then make sure you call them.

I'm considering getting my car serviced elsewhere now over this and never going near them again. Really, how difficult can it be?

    /rant

Call parts or service! Seriously, sales really aren't bothered once you've bought it... Well unless there's another potential sale.
