Wasn't on the options list when I bought.

It was. You just needed to know the secret handshake in order to get it.

Mine are as bad if not worse than his, 4k kms on my car.
My rear discs are well scored too...the fronts are fine, no rust and no scoring.

Kevin went to similar trouble as yer man did in that video, repainting his hubs. It lasted about 6 months before it started going to sh1t again.

Yeah I got it on mine, while I find the lights poor overall the dynamic lighting works very well.

I think it's worth doing as they look pretty bad. That hammerite paint might last well enough.

    Out of curiosity,
How much was dynamic light assist?

    About 800 quid...

Do you get lane assist and blind spot monitoring as well for that?
    If so not bad value.

Lane assist - Yes. Blind spot monitoring - No.

I got AppConnect activated this morning. Haven't had time to play with it much yet but it does look pretty slick!

Probably on my own here but the chat about dynamic lights, I doubt even like the auto dip function. I often knock it off completely as it gets it wrong too often. Dipping the headlights manually doesn't bother me.

That GTI messenger bag in your album..... WHERE DO I GET ONE!!!?!?!?!?!

:D Took me a few seconds to figure out what you're on about :pac: That's my man bag, I actually have it here beside me, I use it for my work laptop every day... I bought it a few years ago when I day-tripped to Autostadt in Wolfsburg...

I like light assist but would prefer the dynamic version. Find it ok except on motorways where it can glare drivers on the other side so turn it off here.
Not so keen on lane assist. Have it in our other car and it can be an irritation when changing lanes.
Blind spot monitoring unnecessary in a car golf sized I think.

As previously reported here, the App connect Text Message voice control as a nice feature, but beware, you need to speak clearly, even than it can lead to some funny interpretations... Podcasts are also pretty good...

Yeah not a fan of the auto-dip. Still takes me an age of flapping about to de-activate it to.

Haha, took me a while too.

How do you turn it off. I turn the light switch over to lights on instead of auto. The thing beside your right knee. Is there another way?

A friend got me this the week I picked up the golf. Would maybe use if but it's too big and bulky. The wife now uses it inside her bag to keep her key in.

It's a well made lovely little thing :)

Push the left stalk forward to turn on/off the high beam assist.

Are you using the Apple (CarPlay) version? I was playing around with mine again there and I expected that I'd be able to read text messages. But when I open the messages App all I get is the list of names of people who've recently texted me but no actual texts.
I was able to send a text using Siri alright.

Hmmm, but then can you manual use full beam?

When you get one while driving it will give the option to read it out.

Cheers, yeah it did read a text to me too, and it was pretty good and clear. But I thought if I was parked, I'd be able to actually read the texts themselves on screen. Doesn't seem to be possible with CarPlay at least.

Also, I'd echo OSI's comment, it's annoying that it kills any information on the MFD screen. All I see there is "CarPlay".

Other than that it is cool, especially for Music / Spotify / Podcasts.

Dynamic lighting works really well, full beams stay on all the time over 60kph and it masks off oncoming cars and cars in front of you. I've never once been flashed by another driver.

Yes, as normal pull the left stalk towards you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,392 ✭✭✭vintagevrs

Does that not just flash the full beam?

The only problem I ever had with dynamic lighting is on the motorway with trucks. The truck cabin is above the barrier where the driver sits in the opposite carriageway but the trucks lights are below the barrier so your car wont pick them up. Next thing you get a blast of them massive round lights on top of the truck because your blinding him. Apart from that its perfect.

If the auto beam is on, push stalk forward to disengage it then towards you for full beam and you have manual control again of high/low.
Like previous poster the only issue I have is with trucks on the other side of the motorway otherwise can't fault it.
The xenons themselves however aren't the best I've ever experienced.
I reckon there will be all led lights on the refresh model.

I haven't been flashed by trucks but saying that I'm not doing huge motorway miles.

Agreed the standard lights aren't great, guys in the UK are saying upgraded Philips extreme vision bulbs make a big difference. I'm going to get a set before the winter.

Just a quick question and this might seem a bit different but do VW actually print proper glossy brochures for the GTD/GTI/R range? I could only print out the brochure and when I requested one from head office they sent me a print out one too! It was one for a GTD by the way. I just like to have it when I buy a new car.

They do but it's a while since I've seen one. Your best bet is to check the local dealers. There's not a lot in them anyway.

Even when I ordered my GTD and ask my dealer said he doesn't know of any! I just like to have something to to look at every single day when I'm waiting for the car to be delivered. As far as I know the R has none at all?

They only had a brochure for the Golf as a whole when I was in, I asked about getting a GTI one and the salesmen just said they print them from their PCs.

Same as myself. It could be a reflection to the market as a whole. If you want a GTD/GTI/R you know what the car is about.

I asked my dealer does he upsell normal golf buyers into the GTI range and he said no way, if people want a GTI they want a GTI. VW therefor must see no real need in franchising it as much as other cars.

I'm not complaining but can a man not have a glossy brochure when he spends upwards of 40K!

Would be nice to have something! I tried to snag a die cast model with the order as they had one on display in the dealership as I remember my Dad getting an exact model of the Cooper S he ordered years ago and thought it was deadly, but apparently they only come in the one colour and configuration so unless you're buying a 3 door in Tornado Red it's not much use.

    There's a couple of colours. Here's one I bought...
