one thing this does confirm anyway is mayweather is fighting again, wont be conor but this whole thing is fairly cheap hype for whoever it is!

It was always known he'd fight again, no way he wasn't going to beat the record.

He'll probably end up fighting Danny Garcia

    What record?

Boxers have gone beyond 49-0 before if that's what you mean?

I do agree he will fight again, he was always going to imo. Too much money to be made for him to turn down when he gets to control all aspects of a fight.

Rocky Marciano's record I meant. He always said he'd match it and retire but you knew he'd want to get to at least a half century

Promote him. Put on a Mayweather branded show with McG fighting MMA on the card. I heard some journo suggesting it could happen a few months back on Newstalk.

I can't see it happening though. The UFC will have clauses to block it happening and Mayweather will need to find opponents willing to leave the UFC to fight McGregor.

Very hard for a fighter to maintain their profile once they leave the UFC.

Conor has a 6 fight contract with the UFC that has 5 fights left on it.
He's not going anywhere any time soon.

Because some people are gullible enough to believe Conor can do whatever he wants. Though Zuffa does bare some of the blame for it. They did make it seem like he could do whatever he wanted.

If Conor had any sense he would this shameless attention seeking stuff and try and try to make amends with Zuffa. And if John Kavanagh had any sense he would stop encouraging this nonsense and make Conor see sense.

the theory is that conor could "retire" or pay out his contract and do what he wants. the fact that it's a different sport entirely would help.

it's all a bit far fetched though. he's either trolling the UFC (pretty good troll given that mayweather himself seems to be in on it) or he's going into business with mayweather promotions for whatever reason.

mayweather wants to start his own MMA promotion seemingly for a while.

all very amusing to follow though. conor is box office.

He wouldn't be able to just retire and fight somewhere else look at randy coture, I also imagine he wouldn't be able to buy his way out considering how much his 5 fights are worth. Realistically he won't be fighting anyone else other than who the UFC say until his contract is up.

Conor can't just retire and get out of his contract. His contract will be frozen [especially since he has a title]and if he un-retires he will still be legally obligated to fight for the UFC.

well i'm not a lawyer and i have no idea what conor's contract says so it's all speculation.

where in his contract does it say he can't do other sports if he retires from MMA?

    1) Champion's Clause. I've already explained it. Google it. 2)http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/10/8/3472208/new-ufc-contracts-will-ban-fighters-from-many-dangerous-activities

I have a good feeling Boxing would qualify as a "Dangerous Activity"

Yes she does. So if she ever decides to fight again it will be under the UFC [Highly unlikely since its been so long that she's fought. I doubt she has the desire anymore]

It isnt beyond the realm of possibility that someone will buy out mcgregors contract tho - What is it 30m?? (i think i heard that somewhere but could be wrong)

So if you have the likes of mayweather and a few others backing it then these types of fights under a new brand are far from fairytale. Start paying opponents 1 and 2 million to get in the octagon with mcgregor and you will soon see fighters run down contracts with UFC.

have you even read that clause? it makes no mention of a fighter not being able to do other sports if they retire.

4.1 The duration of the Promotional Rights provided herein (the "Term") shall commence on the Effective Date and end on the earlier of (i) forty (40) months after the first bout promoted by ZUFFA involving Fighter under this Agreement; or (ii) the date on which Fighter has participated in at least eight (8) Bouts promoted by ZUFFA pursuant to this Agreement (the "Termination Date"), unless terminated sooner or extended further pursuant to the provisions of this Agreement.

4.2 If, at the expiration of the Term, Fighter is then a UFC champion, the Term shall automatically be extended for the period commencing on the Termination Date and ending on the later of (i) one (1) year from the Termination Date; or (ii) the date on which Fighter has participated in three (3) bouts promoted by ZUFFA, regardless of weight class or title, following the Termination Date ("Extension Term"). Any reference to the Term herein shall be deemed to include a reference to the Extension Term, where applicable.

    .

Did you read the second link he posted? New UFC Contracts ban dangerous activities - as he said himself boxing is pretty much going to be considered a dangerous activity.

If it was that easy then the majority would have retired when the Reebok deal kicked in.

You're grasping at straws here. Conor is in the wrong. No amount of mental gymnastics on your part will change that.

look lads, fun and all as it is to speculate, Conor wont be fighting outside of the ufc for the foreseeable future.

yes but that's not the champion's clause.

hey man i'm not part of this conor hating or loving playground stuff at all, i just pointed out that no one knows what's in conor's contract and lots of people talking about contract law here and in other forums on this topic are merely speculating.

    also worth noting what a law professor in the US thought of the last UFC contract to be leaked;

    http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2013/5/14/4330572/ufc-fighter-contracts-revealed-dana-white-fertitta-mma-news

    On fighter confidentiality:

"The employee has to keep confidential how much he's making. That's a complete violation of the National Labor Relations Act on its face. Imagine if a union came out to organize these fighters. To do that they'd need to know how much they were getting paid."

    On the "Champion's Clause":

"I think it's potentially a violation of the 13th Amendment, the prohibition against slavery or involuntary servitude. You can't force someone to work for you. I don't know how, under contract law, that would be enforceable. But I don't think it's been challenged."

    On cutting fighters:

"This is an unconscionable term. The term unilaterally benefits the employer with no reciprocal benefit to the fighter. It's completely one-sided, completely unfair and seems to suggest that any term is a material term for purposes of the employer. Every breach could be a material breach for the fighter, but nothing is for the UFC. There's an argument there that it's unconscionable and unenforceable."

    What record?

Boxers have gone beyond 49-0 before if that's what you mean?
Lots of fighters have had longer streaks and/or more wins. Sugar Ray had and 88 fight streak mid career. Julio Cesar Chavez went to 90 fights before his first loss. Willie Pep won over 200 fights.

But the thing is they all kept fighting until they had a loss. Mayweather doesn't want the longest streak or the most wins he wants retire undefeated with the most wins. He wants an unblemished record.

Rocky's Record was the longest without anything other that wins on it. Tied with Mayweather. At the very least, I've always felt he's want to hold it out right.

Ricardo Lopez had 51 wins, and no losses, 1 draw. And is has the most wins of any champion to retire undefeated. I can see Mayweather wanted that if he gets to 50 fights.

I was referring to managing him through his agency.

Correct..but there are specifics in the champions clause as you were shown and they clearly can only apply to 'champions'. Then there are parts which are in all new contracts which was the second link you were shown. You don't need to be a lawyer to see that this part applies to all fighters, and the first part applies to those who are champions at the time and how it would affect him in terms of his contract to the UFC. You were talking about him retiring and just taking up another sport, you have been shown why he cant. Not sure why you are still looking to nit pick over it but thats the information that is out there.

The simple reality is this is just more media hype from Conor that the tabloids latched on to. He is keeping himself in the media eye with these ridiculous tweets while the UFC focus on UFC 200.He wont be fighting anyone outside the UFC anytime soon and the sooner the better they schedule a fight for him so this nonsense can be put to bed and he stops tweeting stuff that people take as meaningful and believe something will come of. The longer it goes on the more ridiculous he gets and his credibility goes out the window.

This thread has gotten so bad. It s like school yard stuff now.

McGregor is not fighting Mayweather. That s just ridiculous. Mayweather dislikes the sport of MMA and is not getting into MMA promoting. I guess Mayweather is going to fight again. He has more than hinted at it but stopped short of completely flat out saying he will fight. Like always he ll fight someone that he s guaranteed to win with little risk.

McGregor needs to get back training and thrash talking interviews.
