Have to name i think 15 (or some number) of senior players at the start of the year. They cant play intermediate, even league, then the rest can play with whichever team they want, obviously until they play championship with one.

Thats how it works with teams with Junior clubs anyway. Presume having intermediate is the same

    That's exactly how it works!

With senior clubs allowed enter intermediate teams now, what are the eligibility criteria for players for the intermediate teams? Is it a case of played junior last year, eligible for intermediate this year? Is it possible for a senior club to play several fringe players on the intermediate team to give them game time when they're of a much higher standard?

Ian Maguire was midfield for the Barr's vs Mayfield at the why weekend and he definitely didn't play junior last year

Yeah that's it. And then if someone not on the nominated fifteen plays senior championship they cannot play a lower grade championship for the rest of the year.

That's a bit ridiculous really in my opinion. Bad form from the Barrs

I wouldn't know for sure but wasn't Ian injured for a long period last year so I'm not sure if he lined out for the Barrs seniors last year...

As someone mentioned, you name 15 senior players. The fact that the Barrs haven't named a guy who lined out for Cork all through the league in their senior squad suggests pulling a stroke in my eyes anyway.

Apologies - I was under impression the 15 listed as senior players would have had to have played senior championship the year before...

Any player who didn't play senior the yr b4 is eligible for intermediate.

Tomas O'Se lined out with Nemo Intermediates last night as well. I imagine it's 10 or less players you have to name for the first team. You'd imagine Tomas would be in the 15 if it was that many you had to name.

No it's definitely 15 players. But it's left up to the club to pick which players so there is an opportunity there to abuse it I guess. I know my own club's 15 is pretty close to what the championship team would look like but there's always a couple borderline decisions.

I wonder does the list only hold until championship starts? As in O'Se may have been on the list but because Nemo played first round of senior championship and he didn't play that he's now eligible for intermediate? This second paragraph is complete guesswork on my part though.

You name 15 players prior to the commencement of the senior championship. Likewise for Intermediate and Junior.

Once a team plays championship the nominated 15 is no longer applicable. As Nemo played championship at the weekend and Tomas O'Se wasnt involved, he was free to play Intermediate.

Ah yeah, that makes sense. I forgot the nemo seniors had already been out.

Great article from someone who has experience as a player and underage coach. wouldn't hold my breath about anything coming of it but its good to have somebody other than Cusack to point out these issues.

Would anyone have any idea where to get cork gaa car stickers? The echo used to include them with the paper going back. Can't seem to get em anywhere now. If anyone has a few stashed away, I'd be happy to pay if you want to send me a pm :)

How often do you change cars. It could be a few cars time before you get a sticker off the Echo at the rate we're going

    Great article.

Sometimes l think l've lost the plot when l criticise the way Cork GAA is run at a strategic level but that article is spot on and l realise l'm just a sane man in an asylum.

    Congrats to the Ladies tonight.

Hopefully the injury to the Cork player isn't that bad but she was down for a long time :(

Orla Finn was superb. Cora Staunton is a great player from Mayo but she should really learn to pass the ball. She solos every time she gets the ball and looks for frees. Blatant dive for one free she got.

The ref seemed determined to get Mayo back into the game by giving them soft frees but theres only so much even he can do when Mayo had a lot of wides.

The ladies are the best team I have ever seen to just wind the game down when they are ahead. Just holding possession and linking up really well when there are a few minutes left!

Great performance. Having lost the 2 opening games things were not looking good. They turned things around and got their just rewards tonight. Bad injury will take the gloss off the win but it looks like the Cork ladies are back again in the hunt for silverware, the hunger was clear to see.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,247 ✭✭✭✭rebel girl 15

I tell you something, Cora is much better than she used to be in passing!

Ciara seemed to be knocked out when her head hit the ground as she slid, and then looking at her when she was on her feet, it looked pretty clear that she was out of it. Despite losing a lot of experience in the last year or two, some many cool head remains and Fitzgerald has instilled huge confidence in some of the players who were previously on the verges of teams

Onwards and upwards - after the first three rounds they had, to go and end up winning it when things were looking like relegation fight is unreal

Agree entirely, finally someone other then Donal og who has the balls to call it - few more voices badly needed before any hope of change
