So Arayess, what is the actual difference between USN and MyProtein/Bulkpowders, other than a brand name and some clever marketing?

Arayess might be able to add more but MP/BP would have a higher protein content.

    yes indeed.
but is it "branded"? which was the word I used
I'd consider myprotein to be more on par with "shops own" or "generic" brands. of course you may disagree as is your right.

    take for example cornflakes.
kellogs are considered branded..tesco's are not.
they are both "brands" and cornflakes. i guess.

sorry to be pedantic....but you brought it up and I do know my food.

Myprotein and ON have been independently tested and both are very high quality, MP a teeny bit higher. ON costs a lot more though. Both are Brands, with a big B.

Re your earlier post: Its just like the crap that used to be around HDMI cables, anyone that came on asking which 75 euro gold plated lead is best was swiftly told a 2 euro lead is the same. I don't think anyone is an evangelist for myprotein/bulkpowders/go nutrition, if any other site pops up selling good quality product at a good price they will be recommended.

The Bulk Powder love in continues.

Posters should be aware that a lot of the people that continously big up this brand are actually paid reps by the company.

Seems counter-intuitive given that they pay boards.ie to have their own forum... http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=1717

How do I become a rep?

Don't forget the paid MyProtein reps posting here.

I think they get paid in discounts on protein.

Don't forget the fitness reps posting here,

They get paid in fitness points. Which they use to increase their quality of life.

An interesting discussion, particularly around 'branding'. We're as much as a 'brand' as ON and USN.

Just to point out we have no reps on the forum :)

Even though Kinetica are an Irish company I would still have to say ON is a superior product.

    Why so?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,094 ✭✭✭SpaceCowb0y

higher protein content (slightly) 78% to Kinetica's 76%, ON is also lower in fat BUT it does have a higher amount of cholesterol in it. Personally i always try to buy a whey with the highest protein content, personally I woudlnt use either anymore but have done in the past. I go online and use the wholesale sites that are frowned upon mentioning in this thread

As an aside, ON (and BSN I believe) are now owned by Glanbia who are Irish.

Correct. For the last couple of years.

    Is it produced in Ireland?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,835 ✭✭✭✭Alf Veedersane

    Think it's produced in Middlesbrah.

Has the quality of the protein not got to do with digestive enzymes too? And according to an inside source in glanbia, ON is the best

Purely up to you. I love double choc. Mixed with milk and ice cubes in a nutri bullet, it's tastes exactly like a milkshake from McDonald's

I see Bodyfirst are opening up a new (4th?) branch in Ranelagh. Interesting to see that there is obviously a lot of bricks & mortar custom still around as I would have thought the majority of business was done either online, or for those who need to pick up something on the go/in a rush in the 'normal' stores like Supervalu, petrol stations and other places that are now selling the likes of Quest bars and Kinetica.

There is obviously a lot of money to be made in pre-workouts and nut butters :)

Passed by it on Saturday morning and the queue in there was mad.

    It was massive, Ted.

I decided to get some good old whey protein, creatine and glutamine. I also said I'll throw in a natural testosterone booster even though I'm very skeptical of them. So Aspartic acid was purchased.

It's being 3 weeks now and honestly my sex drive has gone through the roof. It was always high enough to be honest, and diet, sleep, recovery are on point. So without ever getting blood work done I'm going to assume my test levels we're healthy before supplementing DAA.

Has anyone had a similar experience with aspartic acid? Also it's probably worth mentioning I also supplement Maca powder too which supposedly aids a hormonal balance.

Found the same with tribulus but it's never been shown to do anything to free test levels. Key point really is that increased sex drive doesn't mean increased test levels necessarily. I'm sure it does something to the HPG axis - like increased LH production - or something else that might make you randy but like you said, without the right blood work it's just speculation.

Also, see here for a recent but admittedly limited study that showed a decrease in test levels for the group supplementing with 6g D-Asp per day. This study also references the only other two main studies performed in humans. In one, there was a significant increase seen in total Test levels but this was in untrained males. The other which used trained males, showed no increase.

ON has apparently decreased its quality in Gold Standard.

Thanks the reply. Very true. I've never got blood work done for anything really and like said I always taught without doing so it's impossible to really tell if these natural test boosters work.

Anyway regardless of what has happened I won't complain and can only take it as a positive. At the end of the day I honestly think the best test booster is a good consistent healthy diet, balanced training and rest. It hasn't failed me yet.

Picked up a tub of amino energy by optimum nutrition this morning in Holland and barret. 25% off so it was a bit of a impulse buy.

I have to say it's very under- dosed. 1 serving is 2 scoops, 30 servings in a tub. As far as 1 serving goes your getting barely any bang for your buck. A bare 1000mg of luecine, 350mg of beta alanine, 1000mg of glutamine and 100mg of caffeine and so forth.

I feel a minimum of 3 servings is required to get anything out of this product. €30 is fairly pricey too. Just my 2 cents on the product. Overly not impressed at all.
