Watching the press conference now, pretty boring but Dana did say there is more fights to come.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,850 ✭✭✭Depp

Who cares how many buys it does??? It's a good card and it's going to be great to watch, if it does a thousand or a billion buys it's not going to affect my enjoyment of it by one iota.

    cant argue with that!

In the words of John Kavanagh, "What do you want to see? Press conferences or fights?"

Lots of press conferences are boring by the numbers events, Fury v Wlad 2 press conference today was quite entertaining though to borrow from another combat sport.

"People say ‘go with the flow’ but do you know what goes with the flow? Dead fish."

That "fat man" bit was the finest bit of showmanship I've ever witnessed at a presser.

"What's the point of practising your job for 40 years if you can't beat a fat man?" says Fury, shirtless with his belly hanging down.

Never see anything like that a UFC presser, you could tell that Nunes didn't mean a word of what she said to Miesha as well, she was all friendly with her last week just grateful for getting the fight, now she has "all the tools" to beat her? Lol, she's about as credible a title challenger as Bethe Correia.

Will this even make 1 mil buys? Can't see the interest tbh. Jones and Cormier both very boring people.

    What are you talking about.

Also the only people who should be interested in ppv buys are those who have ppv percentage points.

Not sure if sarcasm or not....
In any case, I think this is now a very strong card from top to bottom.
All 10 fights so far are intriguing, but the "Interim" FW Title fight for me is the fight I cannot wait to see. Can't possibly see how it wont be entertaining.
Also the J-Lau vs The Dream should almost definitely be Fight of the Night.
I think Lauzon has the record for most fight bonuses or at least joint record. Love watching that man fight, it's kill or be killed every time.

I'm talking about PPV buys. Fairly obvious.

You can be interested in how successful an event will be without having monetary motivations.

Why would you really care though since you have no stake in it?

Do you not watch the fights due to an interest in the actual competition?

Just a comment Strings. UFC 100 broke a lot of records, UFC 200 was expected to break that. Maybe it will. No need for any knicker twisting.

There is no knicker twisting at all, just odd that someone who watches the thing to be entertained would have much interest in that side of things.

It is another by product of McGregor I suppose, he speaks so much about money it has translated into the fans to an extent too.

I don't get the big deal about talking about PPV's. It's always been a part of it, even before Conor came around. UFC 100 has the long running record of being the most successful PPV of all time with 1.6m buys. Many people tipped 200 to break 2m and with the way the card is shaping up now it looks like a bit stacked but albeit regular card.

BTW the card was still a major disappointment for me even before they pulled Conor.

agree there, looked like they threw in the title fights and ignored the undercard

You said you can't see the interest in a Jones Cormier rematch.

It's a fight between two top notch guys, who hate each other and has the added kicker of Jones trying to win the title back.

Anyone who's not interested in this fight has some strange taste in fights.

agreed, a fight fan who doesnt want to see this fight wants his head examined, but alot of buys on conor fights are conor fans not necessarily fight fans, theres far far less people who'd tune in solely because jones and dc are on a card

That was preceded with 'will this make 1 mil buys'. I don't know if the interest is there to make 1 million buys. That does not mean I don't think this fight is interesting. It means I don't think it will attract enough casual fans to get 1 million buys.

Just to repeat that because a lot of people seem to have misinterpreted that: I do not think this is a boring fight. I don't think it's an unbelievably interesting fight, rematches rarely are but it's not boring. I was commenting on whether it will break the 1 mil buys. Maybe it will. Who knows. That's why I was asking other people's opinions.

The fact sonofech sort goes along with my theory of whether it will break 1 mil. People are allowed to be interested in that side of the fight game too.

Its a well stacked card so it might do a million and with enough and the right promotion it could still do,but for me 198 and 199 have just got more going on.

Jones/Cormier while interesting fight i would have far more of an interest in seeing Jones deal with Rumble coming at him,the Jones we seen Sat night would have got obliterated by Rumble.

    So a main card of

    DC/Jones
    Tate/Nunes
    Aldo/Edgar
    Cain/Brown
    Hendricks/Gastelum

is now underwhelming? Really? It's probably the best UFC main card of all time on paper. Don't know what people were expecting for this, but the expectations were way to high.

And as for ignoring the undercard, they have Zingano/Pena, Mousasi/Brunson, Sanchez/Lauzon plus Sage too. Nearly every fight on the card would be a respectable Fight Night headliner.

You forgot about Gomi v Miller.
    Another great fight IMO.
Both past their prime of course but a fun fight for fans of the old school.

They really dislike each other yes but Jones won the first fight very convincingly. Nobody was calling for a rematch after the first fight and I think the feeling is the second fight will go the same way unless Jones hasn't knocked off the ring rust.
