Personally I think it would be pretty amusing to watch them leave, clap one other on the back and shout a few hurrahs for British sovereignty, before slumping into a painful recession while the once great empire slides further into global irrelevance.

Biggest problem with leaving is that we then have to spend two years negotiating the exit and I just don't trust the UK Government with those negotiations.

It would also be amusing to watch the remaining countries begging Germany to make up the €12bn hole in the eu finances.

There are no winners if the UK leaves the eu.

You might tell that to the Tory party, as whatever sense they had on the issue seems to have been dribbling out of them slowly but surely.

The problem with be exit will be that the Brits will want all the advantages of membership without the disadvantages and it's hard to see the EC saying no.
Otherwise it will mean a lot of non EU companies moving elsewhere to avoid tariffs to access EU markets and perhaps British ones too

Irrelevant like Ireland? It would be hard to be that irrelevant. Saying that, the only declining Empire I see is the dodgy one run from Brussels via Berlin.

The Irish don't have an issue with being irrelevant. It really stings the British though.

The world's fifth largest economy ( the EU's second largest), the fourth strongest currency in the world, the EUs second largest net contributor and ranked sixth in the global firepower index.

What seems to irk people like you, is that the UK isn't irrelevant.

I'm not irked at all. :)

They're much less relevant now than 100 years ago. And more again than 200 years ago. The graph is only heading one direction.

Begrudgery at its finest. It's like a Grimsby Town supporter claiming Manchester United are irrelevant because ten years ago they were top of the pile.

The world is a changing place and the UK still carries an exceptional amount of influence, the third most influential behind the US and China.

I'm not begrudging anything, I'm completely dispassionate about it really. I was right about the sting though. ;)

    Some lovely sandy beaches.

They're just cold and wet most of the time.

    LoL.

I don't know why you'd be surprised that people can talk about things without having strong feelings about them.

Weren't we supposed to be hugging?

Lads if britain do leave the EU, does that mean we will get all the english teaching jobs in Spain as there will be less problems with us in sorting out social security and the like. If so I am all for it:-)

The British equivalent of hugging is to be cruel to each other, to show affection, with no physical contact at all cos it makes us uncomfortable. So we're actually doing pretty well.

I think those videos on YouTube of people falling off skateboards are amusing too, but I don't have any strong feelings about skateboards or the people who use them.

    I'll certainly hug a Brit.

Their Brexit drive is Paddy's only real hope of being dragged out of that borg mess in Brussels.

I like Euros. Pleasant folk, nice food. That like doesn't extend to some kind of need to be governed by them.

    Cheerio chaps.
