I could have put it in politics but thought they're a bit to mothy over there so I put it here where people are more lippy.

    We love you.
    You are part of Europe.
Please don´t leave us. Please don´t go.

#PLEASEDONTGOUK IS A PRO-EUROPEAN GRASSROOTS MOVEMENT OF EU CITIZENS LIVING IN THE UNITED KINGDOM.
We don´t think the EU is perfect. We know of its weaknesses. It needs reforms.

But it is an idea worth fighting for. Being together is better than being apart.

We believe that the EU, despite all its flaws, has helped our continent to become a more peaceful and more prosperous place.

We – EU citizens residing in the UK – enjoy the benefits that the EU has brought us. We love living here.

Our message is not about statistics, jobs or about the merits of EU rules on shower caps or cucumbers.

We just don´t want the UK to divorce us. We feel that we belong together.

Our message comes from our hearts. Stay with us, and help us make Europe – and the EU – a better place.

If you feel like us, please join our movement #hugabrit and tell the British people: please don’t go, UK!

    London, Spring 2016

I already know what this is going to descend into.

Anyway I'm a Brit and I like hugs, and I therefore support this initiative.

Well if the Water Charges and Bertie Ahern, along with all the Roma, stopped leaving buggies at bus stops, for the Nigerian taxi men to find we'd all be grand. Let's not forget that the travellers are a great bunch of lads, along with the Muslims, and when you really think about it, the Chinese may have a chequered past when it comes to human rights; but they do a great spice bag. Of course these spice bags are much nicer in Dublin than down the country, but what would you expect considering Dublin is paying for the rest of the country.

    Also, MCD.

That's all I have to say on the matter.

I wonder what they're going to so with the mass immigration of Brits from Spain though? There are a lot of not very wealthy pensioners there who may not necessarily qualify for Spanish residency on a non EU basis due to lack of sufficient independent means, lack of private health insurance and so on...

Could be a large grey wave of those who had cashed in on high house prices to retire to Costa whenever...

From speaking to some Spanish people, the feeling there is many of them are healthcare tourists who are an economic burden. You've a lot of alleged irregularities in tax etc where people aren't properly resident etc etc

I don't know if there's anything more frightening to an English man than some stranger coming up to them and trying to touch them in the street.

The Europeans don't seem to get the Brits.

Shows how little they understand about why so many of them want to leave the EU. It has nothing to do with how friendly they are with European people - the EU is a political project a lot of them don't want to be a part of. Switzerland doesn't want to join NATO; that doesn't mean that they don't feel friendly with countries that are in it. A Swiss person might love Canadian people; that doesn't mean they want their country to be in political union with Canada via NATO. This is counterproductive and it's somewhat offensive that they think that British peoples desire to leave something like the EU is simplistic to the point that hugging them and saying nice things could change their minds.

    .

Actually a lot of northern Europe hates that and the French don't mind air kissing but consider hugging WAY too intimate.

Hugs mean nothing. The only people I ever see hugging each other are real life $hitfaced drunks and gangsters on film and TV, both groups who at the drop of a wrong word could end up killing each other the very next second

It's basically the strategy that the rest of Britain used to get Scotland to vote against independence though, isn't it? TV campaigns telling them how great they were and how much they'd be missed if they left. That and a bit of fear mongering about losing Sterling seemed to be the core of the campaign.

    Must be getting worried.
I'm getting letters from the government asking me not to leave Europe - [wasn't planning on going anywhere].
Then Obama pops up on the TV today - didn't know the US had joined the EU.

I Should have said "remind them again" . He's already slagged off the UK efforts in Libya once.

    Quite.
    Or his own country.
Or the countries that voted in favour of the UN resolution - and were then accused of contravening it.
By the way, you placed an asterisk where an "i" should be.
    Typo?
