Well done G. Sounds like you got the nerves out of way way nice and early so you could just concentrate on the running. Would also agree with KennyG that the pb is in you ok.

Thanks very much! It is a brilliant event whether racing or spectating. Most of Sunday morning I wished I was spectating :o.

:D It wasn't actually my coach who was surprised (although I think mine was a bit too), it was one of the other club coaches. But no one more surprised than me!

Thanks so much, FD. Operation HTFU is starting to pay off I think.

I will! It's no worse anyway the physio wasn't concerned but I will be sensible I promise!

Ha ha, I saw you at the second corner as we were running by. You were busy with tape! I was going to shout hi but thought I'd be shamed on boards for not running fast enough if I did :D

Tell that to my poor family who had to put up with me all Sunday morning :o. Hopefully will get to do a mile again soon to see if that was a fluke or not!
Well done BG! Sounds like a great race!

Thanks, HS. Looking forward to hearing about your preparation for the same distance (with a few beers thrown in :D).

I won't take it as official but I will plant it in my brain, how about that ;) ?
LOVE the relay buzz, it's almost as good as XC. Now there's a thought, XC relays......
There was a post-race grimace  Hopefully not captured on camera. Maybe that's just my default post-race face :o

Thanks, Anna. I didn't even have to qualify to get there (in our club if you meet the age requirement you're in ) but I was delighted not to have disgraced the singlet and to have banished the pre-race demons.

    Tuesday – Easy

A loop from Drumcondra up that seemingly endless hill to Collins Ave then across towards Killester and down the Howth Road to the gym. Remembered too late that I’d forgotten my programme and my resistance bands, so took it as a sign to read the papers in the gym café instead before heading home for dinner.
    • 4.0 miles @ 9:09 (path)

    Wednesday – S&C, Speed

Intermediate Pilates class, with some more advanced moves. Instructor is trying to upgrade us to Advanced but we’re not biting.

On to the promenade, warmed up to the Bull Wall then did some drills and strides before starting the intervals. Fantastic running weather this evening, a bit breezy but I did all the repeats in the same direction, so got the benefit of the wind behind me. Felt ok, reasonably relaxed and managed to avoid the loose dogs. Last 2 reps were tough but happy enough with the paces given that it was on grass.
    • 4.5 miles incl. drills, strides and 6 x 400m @ mile pace (grass)

    Paces for the 400s were 5:57, 6:03, 6:04, 6:01, 6:10, 6:06

    TOTAL WEEKLY MILES : 21.3

Well done BG, nice racing. Great to see your time tumbling!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,388 ✭✭✭laura_ac3

You ran to the gym to sponge off free newspapers?? :)

Nicely done at the relays, seems like a nerve wracking experience alright but went well. That pb is officially there for the taking next time around so, onwards with operation HTFU!

My intention was to go to the gym, but forgot vital equipment so had to read the papers instead :o

Well actually the Leinsters come first (!) on 5th June then Meath on 22nd June. In the meantime there's the Dublin graded meets. I went to my first one last night and it was super, I'd highly recommend them. Why don't you give the 1500 a try? That's on next actually, in Tallaght in May 11th. Here's the link to the info.

Thanks for the info, Mulberry. I am tempted! Some logistics to work out and negotiations to do but I may be able to make it :D

How is the grading done? No info in booklet, and the Dublin athletics link doesn't seem to shed any light.

No clue. Self-grading I'd guess. There's only 2 grades for women (usually) and I think they amalgamate the longer races a lot of the time so it seems irrelevant. I'd say if we have to ask we need to be in the slowest . Will give Tallaght a go in a few weeks so will be full of information after that :).

    Thursday – REST

    Lovely.

    Friday – S&C, Easy (Hills)

Tough gym session. A lot of burning going on in my hamstrings, glutes and quads. The body is feeling generally stronger though as a result of the gym focus so will keep it up.

Headed to the Phoenix Park for 60 mins on a hilly loop. Body tired after the gym so kept it easy pace wise but it was tough in the heat (a thermometer-busting 12 degrees, I will melt like the proverbial wicked witch If we ever get a summer ) and there was a strong enough breeze too. Park looked spectacular today – sun, blue sky. One of those good-to- be-alive- and-not-in-work days.
    • 6.7 miles @ 8:59 (grass, tarmac).

    Saturday – S&C, Easy

Continuing with the S&C theme I signed up for a Tower class in the Pilates studio as the instructor said it was great for highlighting imbalances that may not be evident from a mat class. Great class! I’ll be doing more of these if the budget will stretch and time permits.

Easy plod up to the end of the pier and back. Beautiful day and loads of people out enjoying it. Finished with a rare treat of a jacuzzi/steam/plunge pool combo in the gym.
    • 6.1 miles @ 9:05 (grass, path)

    Sunday – LSR

Junior parkrun this morning. BG Jr. was in no hurry as usual, stopping to admire flowers and insisting on a bathroom break but she’s loving it and will get her ‘half marathon’ band next week.

My turn late this afternoon. Took it very easy as still a bit tender from the gym/tower. Up to St.Anne’s for a loop on the trails then back the same way.

Well I went to my first one last week so I have some information. When I registered online beforehand (for the 100 meters) I had to enter my time for the event. This was an estimated time as it was my first 100M, but the box on the form was free text so I put that in, i.e. xx seconds (est).

I think they simply put everyone into graded groups based on that. In the 100m they ended up having four grades, A-D, simply because of the number of entrants and their times. I know the women's 800 was amalgamated that night, probably because of lower numbers of entrants.

I'd imagine the individual can request a particular grade if you wanted to be challenged, otherwise they'll place you where they think you belong, in relation to the overall profile of entrants on the night.

The Dublin Championships are part of the races later on, I guess there's a separate entry for that.

A weird and wonderful contraption that wouldn't be out of place in a torture chamber. Think The Rack with various springs and bars attached

I think it was and no, don't think there is any photographic evidence....for now ;)

Is the contraption like the reformer thingy used in pilates? Have been looking into that but might just stick with nice gentle yoga....

Yeah it's the same frame, just a different set up and attachments. Great for highlighting weaknesses and imbalances. And a tough workout!

Never got in to yoga much but have heard great things about Hot Yoga.
