Nice! I wussed out on doing Malahide today, instead I went for a nice jog to Portmarnock :) - agreed on the watch being useless, my Garmin has measured the course short both times I've run it, it can't accurately track when you're in the woods at all.

Super well done G. Great work ethic and no time for hanging around others mid race.

Congrats on the PB mental mojo achieved it seems, onwards and upwards. Actually, I'm so far behind on logs I think this may count as double race congrats :)

Thanks everyone. I think that result was just what the doctor ordered as I had been wondering for the last while why the training wasn't really paying dividends. But after 12 weeks of Operation HTFU progress is being made, and the plan (changed again ) is to stick with it and do lots more track over the summer before the XC season starts again.

Things I have learned so far:
    • Naked racing is the business and not just for XC :p
    • Stealth runs are better than public showdowns :D
    • Gym work becomes even more important as the distance raced becomes shorter
    • People on boards are full of wisdom and sound advice.

Have you being enjoying the new paths in St Anne's this week. They were finishing another one today along the All Saints Road side as I was running by and for some reason when I saw the Tarmac trucks you came to mind :)

Ha ha, you got there before me. I'm just about to post my rant now along with my training

    SUNDAY – LSR

Got out late afternoon for this after a busy day including Junior parkrun, toy shopping, Frisbee playing and picnicking in the back garden. Oh to be 4 and 3 quarters again and have so much energy!

Headed to St. Anne’s via Griffith Ave and Killester and in through the main gates. It hasn’t been that long since I’ve ran in the park so I was dismayed to say the least to see not one but two more sections of trail lost to new tarmac paths around the perimeter . I’ll be running circles around the pitches at this rate. Or chaining myself to a tree on what’s left of the trails . Enjoyable run in spite of all that.
    • 9.0 miles @ 8:51 (path, grass, minimal trail )
    Monday – Easy/Recovery

Loops of the local park. Definite drop in temperature compared to the weekend but it was perfect for running. Legs a bit heavy after the race/LSR combo at the weekend so kept it easy and the splits were eerily consistent.
    • 4.0 miles @ 9:10 (grass)

    Tuesday – Speed

6 x 300m along the promenade. Target pace was 6:00 min/mile +/- 5 seconds. Warm evening and a bit muggy – rain was threatening but didn’t materialise. Tried to focus on form and staying relaxed which was grand when the wind was behind me but tough when running into the wind. Reps 1,3,5 were into the wind. Not sure what happened on rep 5, probably involved a dog .
    • 6.0 miles incl. 6 x 300m (200m jog recoveries) (grass)
    Paces: 5:55, 5:52, 5:58, 6:02, 6:13, 5:58

    Wednesday – S&C, Easy/Recovery

Level 3 Pilates with some advanced moves and the instructor worked us hard. Was not able for this tonight – the sun was streaming into the studio and all I wanted was to be outside for a run. Escaped finally and really enjoyed my run along the promenade and half way out the pier and back the same way. Met Murph_D en route. Also got a wink and a smile from a complete stranger running in the opposite direction. Although I’d no glasses on so maybe he wasn’t a stranger :o. Weather making everyone happy it seems :D.
    • 5.0 miles @ 9:03 (grass)

I was seriously disappointed in the excuse for a rant. I really did expect better. However I probably should have thought about it more. She just doesn't care to the same extent now that she is on route to life as a trackfairy. Next she will be worried about dirtying her spikes with all that nasty muck at those far too rough XC event. Its a slippery slope........:p

Thursday – Dublin Staff Relays Phoenix Park

Today was supposed to a rest day but I had signed up for the Staff Relays a while ago and was looking forward to it as a bit of fun more so than an eyeballs out effort. Due to babysitting issues I had to go last on our team as I wasn’t able to get out of the house until 6. Got to the park with loads of time to spare, in time to see the ‘B’ runners (the 2nd leg) come through the tented village. I must admit to being a bit sceptical of these types of events in general but it was well organised, a great atmosphere and even though the course is well short of 5K, nobody cares as it’s the overall team time that counts, and individual times aren’t captured.

After cheering Annpr, Singer and also anyone in a day glo green t-shirt through the village it was time to head to the baton handover area. Did a bit of a warm up before heading back to wait for my teammate. There weren’t too many left in the pens at this stage and there was no pressure to do anything other than enjoy the run. The top teams were already well home by this point. I do think they could make the event more interesting by awarding prizes for mixed gender teams and all female teams.

Got the baton and legged it out of the pen and across the grass to the top of the Khyber road. Was doing a naked run (I am now an evangelist for naked running ) so decided to go for a comfortably hard effort and reserve something for the final stretch through the tents rather than risk a chase, race, vom strategy which wouldn’t be the best in the context of a work related event .

Lovely free fall down the Khyber, the park looked amazing in the evening sunshine, and the long line of colourful t-shirts further ahead and climbing up towards the Magazine fort was pretty spectacular. I was overtaking people at a rate that would never happen in an actual race, one of the advantages of starting so late. We turned at the end of the Khyber and started to climb. The wind was a factor here and the sun was still quite strong even though it must have been 8pm at this stage. Kept overtaking here, lots of people finding the hill tough. On to the S-bends which are lovely to run in this direction and another downhill towards St.Mary’s. Tough climb back up towards the Acres and the legs and lungs were starting to feel it now. There’s a loooooong stretch on the grass here before you get to the tents and a strong wind in the latter half of this section made it quite challenging. Into the village and looking forward to seeing colleagues now and getting, hopefully!, a shout out. Sure enough I got some great roars of encouragement and I took the opportunity to start a sprint finish without realising I’d ages to go yet . Kept the pace up as best I could to the finish line and was happy to finish reasonably strongly in 21:33. Team was in the 300s out of 500+ so we didn't disgrace ourselves.

Cool down was a walk with Annapr back to the car which was a mile away. Spotted a huge herd of baby deer en route. Their coats seemed to almost shimmering in the evening light – just beautiful creatures.

    Friday – S&C

No running today but did go to the gym. Single leg stuff is getting better which is good news. I’ve gone from being a wibbly wobbly wonder on my bad side to being able to do 5 deadlift rows with good form. Happy with that

Yeah, I've done better rants. I must be losing my touch .

The day I give out about muck, or worry about messing up my pretty spikes, is the day you have my permission to shoot me ;).

    Saturday – Easy

Made this route up as I went along : Griffith Ave, Killester, Vernon Ave and back along the coast. Ended up being a progression run for no particular reason.
    • 5.0 miles @ 8:35 (path)

    Sunday – LSR

A magical mystery tour around St.Anne’s trying to find some new trails. Tree cover playing havoc with the GPS so I reckon this run was either longer or faster (or both!) than the watch would have me believe. Weather was nuts, soaked one minute then at risk of sunburn the next.
    • 10.0 miles @ 9:25 (grass, trail, path)

    Monday – Easy

Loops of the local park, in advance of a fateful family lunch at a D.1 eaterie.
    • 4.0 miles @ 8:35 (grass)

    Tuesday – REST

Enforced ‘rest’ after aforementioned lunch. There is a small chance this was a stomach bug rather than food poisoning. Ugh either way.

    Wednesday - REST

On the mend but still feeling a bit lethargic. Appetite finally came back but chipped a tooth on my lunch and had to make an emergency trip to the dentist. Let’s just get all the bad luck out of the way so . Should have been doing 800m at the Graded Meet tonight but my fancy new track spikes will have to wait another couple of weeks for their debut.

    TOTAL WEEKLY MILES: 23 Meh.

Nah, 800 meters would be like a marathon for me!

It's a bit bananas going from doing marathons to 100+200 meter races. Great fun though :)

Are you going to do the Leinsters in Tullamore on Sunday week? Now that'll be fun! Registration closes tomorrow! Here's the link to last year's results: http://athleticsleinster.org/images/results/Updated%20Senior%20Masters%20Track%20Results_310515_final.pdf
(or did I send you that link already?)

Thanks for the reminder! I'm in. Entered the 800m and the 1500m and will decide closer to the time which one to do. Less chance of being lapped in the 800m I suppose .

What are you doing ? 100m or 200m ? Or both  ?
