You're just wonderful AM - in real life too, of course - here, your positive attitude and consistently sound advice are some of the things that keep the wonky A/R ship afloat.     Hey AM, glad to hear you are feeling somewhat better, take your time getting back, your right running is s hobby but one that you have been progressing at
    nicely, it's hard when you give so much of yourself to something and for what
    ever reason it doesn't happen, but you seemed to me to have enjoyed the along the way part of the journey with some great racing and PB's so not a complete
    waste. Best wishes for quick recovery to full health and to adding just last
    piece of jigsaw you where putting together:)

    Do not forget the movies, wine, books, dossing etc that will have got neglected over the past year ;).

    Thanks M, given that I've been off the vino since early December, there are now a shocking number of wine bottles in my utility room as we speak.... probably time to knock it on the head again!!!! I'll just finish off this bottle... :p

    :o ah jeez A, I've only just put the tissues away!!! I just try to emulate people like you, oso, meno (come back!), myles, tang, fbot, demfad, etc etc etc etc, this place is full to the brim of really great people, we are not going to let the few damage the good work of the many.

    Onwards and upwards AM of course you're going to be in the horrors not doing Rotterdam you'd be made of stone if you weren't all that hard work and dedication. But to take the glass half full approach you were wise to get a medical review, then to get the treatment and to get yourself back on form so that you are 100% facing your next challenge. Stay strong, keep smiling, keep positive and that's half the battle. :)

    You've been through such a tough time but can still see the positive side, I really admire that! Keep us updated.

    Hi AM..I made the mistake of reading your post during a lull at my daughter's birthday party earlier, thankfully no one noticed the tears in my eyes! Keep going, remember the tough times with training, this is just another test and you succeed. I am sure with the attitude and dedication you have to doing things right you will get back to where you want to be soon.

    I was thinking of you during the marathon and could hear feel your encouragement & positive vibes.

    You have every right to feel as you do but your positive attitude and following medical advice will have you back on track real soon. I'm a firm believer in "what's for you won't pass you by" stay strong girl xx. .

    Sunday 17th April

    Gym:
    20 mins stationary bike
    10 mins rower
    20 mins treadmill @ 7KPH and incline 4
    wore the HRM throughout the whole workout avg was 128, I tried a little jog on the treadmill thinking it would help keep the pace nice & low, it did but HR shot up again.

    Followed up by 20 mins swim & sauna, I won't tell the story of today's escapades but let me just say - it was not pretty :eek:

    3 walks today, one this morning with the dog about 1.5 miles, one post lunch again with the dog 3 miles fast (he went straight upstairs to bed when we got home :D) and about 1.5 - 2 miles this evening on the canal with top notch human company ;)

    Energy levels quite good today :)

    Delighted that you're able to give other forms of training a go while you're recovering. Are you enjoying trying the other disciplines?

    Thanks Neady - How are you after that epic weekend training?!
    I love swimming, I always have but I've never 'worked' at it before it's always just been purely for enjoyment. I'll start counting laps and seeing if I can progress with that - I must have a sneaky peak on the tri logs for tips on bilateral breathing, I think Kate said KG's log is the place to go? I'm hoping to look at bikes this weekend too with the idea of commuting to work a few times a week, if I can run in I can certainly cycle! But sush, don't tell anyone :p

    Had just been taking a look through it yesterday (and going through the Grads thread to bookmark the weekly schedules) after getting recommended it 6months ago. Most of them are at a decent stage of swimming so a good idea would be to start increasing distance and get the breathing right before worrying about drills I think.

    Calm down everyone else ;) I'm not trying to recruit anyone, will not even do a tri myself I don't think.

    Yup, Kate is bang on the money, KGs Swimming for Tri Beginners http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057321888 is the go to thread for swimming.

    Oh, you're getting a bike, that's so exciting, we'll keep that between us. My 2c is to either go for a full on road bike or a MTB, you can do fun stuff with those at the weekends. You can put gatorskins tyres on the roadie and they'll help prevent punctures on the way to work. I really enjoyed doing a spin on the bike the day after a LSR in the run up to DCM, keeps the legs ticking over and helps with recovery, it will definitely help with running.

    The legs are feeling good today but my arms and shoulders are still a bit stiff. Had two of the best nights sleep since :)

    he he I love it, Aero2k had pointed out that I'd need to know how to fix a puncture :rolleyes: but this looks like a much better idea! I haven't a clue what an MTB* is though, I better get cracking on the research so!

    *A mountain bike! I have one of those (albeit a broken one), they're too heavy for commuting (or at least mine is...) and *if* I crossed over to the darker side it wouldn't be much use?

    All good AM, M is just gone which is why I'm up at stupid o'clock on boards. He was in good form think he is just dying to get it done now. I'm actually really nervous and I'm not even running. Temp supposed to rise today so hoping the conditions aren't going to be too warm for them. We had a boards meet up dinner last night losts of pasta and water on the menu. Everyone seems very relaxed a lot of talk about running :) have my green hat green scarf and green flags and we are positioning ourselves at 24.5 miles to spur them onto the finish. Hopefully everyone has a good run. :)

    Hi AM,

    When I saw your update I immediately tried to post the perfect response, but then I found that Dubgal had got there before me. In all the updates on the progress of the other boardsies in Rotterdam, you kept hidden how much it hurt you to be missing out - your chance will come. It's much easier to advise patience than to exercise it (sorry for repeating myself but I know you love an auld literary quotation: "the best thing to do with good advice is to pass it on; it is seldom of any use to one's self" - Oscar Wilde), but I can tell you from personal experience that the delayed gratification will give you many special moments to savour in the future. We'll all be wishing you well with your continuing recovery.

    Oh and nip that tri shaight right in the bud - it's all about focus:D.

    :) we use the mountain bike for the longer adventure racing - roadie this weekend because we've a multi-sport event coming up that uses the road bike - so if you decided on adventure racing, the MTB would be perfect. The MTB is a lot heavier and great off road but the roadie is probably better and faster for commuting (and you could try a Tri with it).

    I've a feeling I'm going to be kicked off the A/R forum for poaching/planting seeds :D

    I'm all for trying new things, there's no harm in dipping my toe into unknown waters so to speak! However, I would undoubtedly be equally rubbish over there and end up back here swiftly with my tail between my legs!

    Sorry to hear things aren't going so well right now. You've always been first on my log with an upbeat message whenever I suffer a setback.

    There is nothing worse in running than watching your goal race come and go while you are unable to run but just have to keep plugging away and believe it will come good in the end.

    Anyway, stay positive and I'll echo the above, don't resort to tri.
