I'm delighted for you that things are on the up. So that light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter/nearer for/to you. :D

My sports therapist mentioned this happened him years ago when running and after a month on the meds, everything was sorted out and hes never had to take them since.

Thanks Anne, that would be great, fingers crossed!

Also, I forgot to add, I didn't want to be chucked off the Athletics and Running forum for not running

Followed up by 45 mins pilates class - holy mother of divine god  BG how do you do these classes?? I have aches in parts of my core I didn’t even know existed - wanted to get up and leave after 5 mins - stuck it out as as the walk from where we were in the hall was too long to ‘sneak’ out :D glad I stayed, might actually go back next week!

Ha ha, I've been doing Pilates for 3 years now and still want to sneak out of the studio on occasion . It's so great for runners though, so do go back!

Delighted to read the progress you're making and fingers crossed the blood tests come back with good news.

    Saturday 23rd April

    Gym workout:
    Rower - 10 mins x level 10
    Bike - 20 mins x level 4
    Treadmill - 20 mins x incline 6 @ 6.5kph
All done with HR avg 130

    Swim
    100m x freestyle
    100m x breast stroke
    100m x mixed
not great, but its a start... I did one of the breathing exercises from Career move's file but was working from memory and all I could remember was falling backwards while making motorbike sounds :D enough said!!

A lovely walk in the PP with woody, no watch, no pace just for enjoyment :)

So some news. The run on Friday was super duper but... I was very tired afterwards and there was some post run indications that it wasn't the best idea in the world So - DCM is off the table, I was putting pressure on myself to get better ASAP so I could start the training. That's a mistake. There's a weight off :)

A visit to Myles last night for a functional movement test showed up a few weak spots so the plan is to spend the next 6-8 weeks working on those, the benefits when I return to running competitively will be more efficient running which will translate to better times - who can argue with that! Its time well spent while I'm on the bench. I'll continue with the lower effort cardio in the gym too just to keep things ticking over and the pilates class from hell(!) but there'll be no running here for a while so bear with me. The support from everyone here is what's keeping me sane and is very much appreciated. Had a look at some bikes today too so I"ve narrowed it down to two possibles, will get working on that during the week!

Wise move to delay the marathon ... I was rolling my eyes when your plans for light swimming brought in suggestions of triathlons and 24hour Adventure races last week. Running is a breeze compared to swimming if you want my opinion.

Bit jealous of your functional strengthening phase, will be a great thing to have under the belt. And maybe a half in the fall, and Rotterdam in 2017?

Just read back over that .. the eye-rolling because you've been sick and were doing the swimming as a lighter option, btw, not because of ability in normal circs.

Where is the "rolleyes" gone in the new site :(. Was my most-used emoticon, loads of gaps now on my old postings.

    They were only kidding :p

Maybe, Chicago 2017 is an option too if I can bag another place - but I'm not committing to anything or thinking of any particular race for now.

Enjoying watching the action in London this morning too :)

With all the advice on biking you've received, I'm amazed nobody has told you that the most important thing is being able to do snot rockets - bet the nuns in your fancy southside convent didn't teach you that skill!!

haven't had a chance to catch up on here so someone may have made this joke already but you'll have to change the name of your log to "every accomplishment starts with a decision to tri"

Yiz are all very funny today - my poor core can't take all the LOLZ :D

    Sunday 24th April
Glued to the London Marathon this morning, well done to all from here who took part, it looks like an amazing experience.

    Gym:
Bike 25 mins/ 10.72K @ level 4 - loved this for some reason today & stayed on the bike to get to 10K
    Rower: 10 mins @ level 10= 1643M
    Treadmill: 15 mins @ incline 8 speed 6.5, 5 mins @ speed 6.5 incline 1

    Swim:
    100m x breaststroke
    100m x front crawl
    100m x breaststroke
    100m x front crawl
    100m x breaststroke

Bit of an improvement today although I'm really going to study those breathing drills for next week. Was sharing a lane with a guy who seemed to think he could bully me out of the water (I got into his lane). You picked the wrong woman dude, all you succeeded in doing was keeping me there for an extra set - thanks!!

    Walk
Ramble around the PP with the dog and some clubmates followed by coffee & scone, another cracking day.

Bummer re DCM AM but if you're not 100% then probably a wise decision loads to choose from in 2017.

    Week 1 - Project Gazelle

    Monday 25th April

Lunch Walk: Fast 3.08 miles @ 12:52 avg hr 117 - I'll be happy if I can keep the pace of the lunch walks below 13 min miles.

PM: Walk: 3.5 miles @ mixed pace, walk in the Phoenix Park trails with the dog and Aero2k. The park looked resplendent in the evening sun, shoulda got a photo...

PM: Functional movement exercises: workout 1 - these exercises look harmless enough - until you can’t do them!! A sign, if one was needed, that I really do need to work on this stuff.

    Tuesday 26th April

Lunch Walk 3.07 miles @ 12:58 avg HR 115. Managed to miss the rain/hail/sleet or whatever was falling from the sky in Dublin today! A bit slower today due to faffing about with a rain jacket I didn't need in the end and a ridiculously strong wind!

Evening walk 3.1 miles @ 13:55 (no HR data) local loop with the dog, lovely evening if a bit chilly.

PM: Functional movement exercises workout 2, a bit more success with these although still some very obvious mobility and flexibility issues.

Got a call from my GP re the bloods, good(ish) news, the bloods are mostly very good - in particular the non thyroid one’s that were raising a red flag last time, but the thyroid is still a little high, it’s improving but she wants to look at increasing the tablets, I hope to god that doesn't mean extra side effects! Will know more when I see her on Friday but it’s all going in the right direction. Happy with that small bit of news & progress.

Good news FD. Of course it'd be better if you were magically fully recovered already but moving in the right direction will have to do us, for now.

BTW - what are functional movement exercises? Example?

Between these, cycles, swims, power walks, occasions jogs, yoga and whatever the heck else you're squeezing in you'll be fitter and stronger than the lot of us by the time you get running again!

Thanks R, not sure about fitter! none of the stuff I'm doing is as challenging aerobically as running (for obvious reasons). I'm just trying not too leak too much fitness for now. Maybe stronger, which is the plan!

One of the one's I can't do is here http://menshealth.kz/img/6/557.jpg, you're supposed to do this while keeping your hips on the ground - I won't tell you how far I can get my leg!!! Lots of other similar stuff (such as scorpions and windmills) and then balance work like single leg squats and runners touch. Also the Myrtle routine once a week too. I've been neglecting the yoga in favour of nightly meditation but some of the exercises incorporate poses.

He doesn't have his hip on the ground FD! Check the photo. I just tried it both ways and it's a physical impossibility without moving your hip up!

The key is to keep your shoulders on the ground to stop the roll. Hip has to lift to allow you to get the leg over :)

    Wednesday 27th April

Lunch Walk 3.04 miles @ 13:32 avg HR 111. Ha so much for keeping under 13!! Feeling quite tired today after a rubbish sleep, got caught (sans raincoat  ) in the crazy snow shower in Dublin today - walking in the rain is nowhere near as satisfying as running in the rain…

PM Walk: 3.1 miles @ varied pace, local loop with the dog and a clubmate. Not sure how woody will cope when I’m better and we have no one taking pity and coming for walks with me :p Really appreciate the company on these.

PM Functional movement exercises: tonights were all balance related - it seems I’m quite unbalanced!! Found these tough enough. This one is a toughie try it

    Thursday 28th April
Still a bit on the tired side today so skipped the planned walk as knew I’d be in the gym this evening for torture pilates - then skipped the gym and the pilates class as still tired - only a short dog walk not worth recording - the slippery slope?! Didn't even do Myles’s exercises!

    Friday 29th April

Yoga & Functional Movement exercises: Today’s workout happens to include some warrier & bridge poses which are in my yoga DVD so decided to combine both and tagged on the other exercises not in the DVD at the end. Much easier workout for me as well used to these.

PM Walk 3.5 mile @14:26 local loop with the dog, beautiful evening and a great start to the bank holiday weekend :) brisk but not 'flat out' and much more enjoyable...

GP appointment in the morning to review the blood results, she was very good in fairness and went through everything and showed me the before and after results and where the adjustments still need to be made, she is very happy with my progress. I thought about crossing my fingers when she asked ‘and you’re not running, right’? Me? No no I’m not running at all….. I briefly thought to mention the swimming, the walking (with jogs) the gym work and the plan to buy a bike, but the moment passed :p I”m scheduled to see a specialist mid May now.

Tired again today and working from home so no lunch time walk, I’m not sleeping great this week but I think I’ve probably been overdoing things a bit (Yes OK aqinn I admit it!!!). So will scale back slightly.

Great sky this evening including this 50 shades of grey

    Saturday 30th April

AM 3.1 mile walk @ 14:59  Cabinteely parkrun ‘tailrunner’ I knew I”d be walking this (that was the whole idea) but I was sure I’d at least get a good power walk & jog the downhills - there were only two walkers today and they were the slow, chatting kind…. Anyway, did the job I was there to do. Also caught up with Nop who was running today and kindly kept me company on the last lap after he’d finished his race, then back for coffee and great to catch up with the usual suspects too. Freezing morning but lovely too.

    AM gym:
10K on the bike at level 4, I think it was 24 mins
    10 mins on the rower @ 1600meters
20 mins in the pool, stomach hadn’t been great in the gym so had pretty much decided to just enjoy this swim no pressure, then realised I’d forgotten my goggles so that was fate. Thoroughly enjoyable 20 mins with a lane to myself and I could feel my muscles relaxing out. Followed up with relaxation in the sauna.

PM: 2 mile walk @ 14:39 on the canal with the dog, beautiful afternoon, practically deserted so really peaceful and calm too.

PM: Beer mile training: Having got some tips earlier I thought I"d get practising :p 4 tiger beers, easing myself in gently so only one down the hatch in 35 seconds, the rest are being sipped slowly at easy pace :D

You looked like you were bossing the newbies at cabinteely today :)

Eh... Walking with a jog... How is that not running a bit? :p (and no, aquinn didn't tell me to ask that...)
