My last payment was taken in February and still no sign. Agh whatever way they dispatch them bugs me so much. At least it's got anyway I suppose ha

I paid my last installment in February and my ticket arrived today. I'm in Galway.

I had a minor panick a few days ago because the installments are only €60 I never noticed them coming out of my account so I was trawling through my transaction history looking for them but it's all good now.

I want another announcement for this now so that there might be more talking on this, this should have more prominence than Forbidden Fruit, Benniscassim and Glastonbury.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

It's sold out. They've no incentive to announce anything yet.

Based on previous years it will be another month before we hear anything else!

Also a sure sign that there's a lot of bands going to be announced that have been scheduled to play in Ireland between the first announcement and EP itself.

Yeah they do, they need to keep the name in the air, to drum up excitement. To make those who don't have a ticket want a ticket even more so that they sell out earlier next year.

They also would have their advertising campaign booked and paid for, why change that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,516 ✭✭✭BadTurtle

Think you're overselling that idea a bit. Its April, they're the biggest festival in Ireland by miles and they've got some big acts locked in to headline. There's no rush to do anything now, it's sold out and likely will do so next year too, based on brand alone. It's going the way of Glastonbury, where it can sell out without a line up. Not making a second announcement soon isn't going to change that.

Talking to a few die hard picnicers who have gone to a few previous festivals and while they got their tickets to this years festival. The general consensus is that the headliners listed so far, are good but hardly outstanding. I've been to a few previous picnics over the years myself and i held back getting a ticket as personally speaking, im not sold on who has been announced so far, fair play on others , who have got the tickets drummed up the demand and that has resulted in the selling out of the festival (so far).

But if I was to get a ticket then another announcement with some good secondary and tertiary acts might convince me, but so far, no....

You might have missed the big news. Electric Picnic is sold out. They'll probably have a couple of thousand more available through 3 but they'll be snapped up regardless of who is still to be announced

There are more tickets held back not just for 3,it will be the same same situation last year when there was a good amount amount released 2 weeks before last years festivals and also days leading up to it....

Did anyone here hear of people getting tickets through ticketmaster 2 weeks before the festival last year? I sure didn't and I knew plenty of people who were looking. They either didn't go or got one from a third party at close to face value.

Why is it so hard for people to accept that sold out means sold out. About a week before it sold out someone posted in this thread saying they had inside info from ticketmaster that there was only a few hundred tickets left, nobody believed them but it turned out to be accurate.

The moral of the story here is buy your ticket for the early bird price in September if you think there's any chance you'll go. Then if you don't like the lineup or you don't want to go when summer rolls around you can sell your ticket, probably for a profit. In the case of Electric Picnic waiting for lineup announcements makes no sense at all. Like someone said earlier EP is going the way of Glastonbury where it'll sell out before any acts are announced.

Is it true they didn't sell as many Sunday tickets as last year because of overcrowding?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,341 ✭✭✭✭MadYaker

I didn't hear that but I ****ing hope so. The main arena was packed on Sunday last year.

A small number of tickets did become available at the last minute last year, presumably because people on the instalment plan didn't pony up.

But you're right, I don't see the logic in holding off. The lineup is always broad enough to keep most music fans happy and early bird/loyalty discounts make it a no-brainer to buy early.

Weren't both Bruce Springsteen gigs announced as "sold out" only to be told yesterday that more tickets are going on sale this Thursday.

I've heard of people get tickets on TM just a few days before picnic last year, and the year before, so this kind of thing does happen..
Sold out doesn't always mean sold out, unfortunately :o

The Springsteen tickets are being released because the fire marshal has done full safety checks at the site with detailed stage specifications and given an accurate number for the total allowed on site. Promoters always slightly under-estimate the total number of tickets that can be sold until these checks are done - imagine if they didn't and had to recall some tickets? Just common sense.

The Springsteen ones got an announcement because it's Springsteen, but it happens for damn near every gig in the country.

Festivals are usually the exception here because site specifications are set in stone before anything is announced. It's not like Lana Del Ray gets to bring an expansive stage set up with her.

That said, will more tickets be available closer to the time from TM? Almost definitely. It will be a combination of unused commercial tickets, deposit schemes/bookings that were unfulfilled, card failures, etc. It likely wont be a very significant amount of tickets.

I remember reading before that for gigs in Ireland, 'sold out' tends to mean about 97% of tickets. Just like 'full employment' doesn't mean full, sold out doesn't really mean sold out.

But, and this is the important bit, the likelihood is that the number of tickets that will become available will be so minor that it won't make much difference to the vast majority of those who held off buying only to be disappointed when it sold out.

Perfectly explained there. When something is sold out the advice to give is always keep checking Ticketmaster and check more often in the couple of weeks before the event. I remember getting tickets for Springsteen in thomond park in 2013. Was officially sold out at the time and went on Ticketmaster a week before it was on and the tickets were there. As above poster said it happens at pretty much every decent sized concert in Ireland. So keep an eye on the Ticketmaster website from August onwards...

Just in case anyone wants to talk about something other than tickets.......

What is the story with RBMA not being on the promo material?????

Now I know the acts for it don't get announced until well into Summer however I do think it's suspicious they're not mentioned along with Salty Dog, Mindfield, Casa Bacardi et al on the posters.

Would be very surprising if the space itself didn't continue to host some sort of electronica type of activity.

A new direction ahead for Ye Olde Rave in the Woods?

Personally, I'm expecting a 72 hour Daft Punk residency as some sort of riposte to James Murphy and his Despacio tent from last year.

I've noticed that as well and just assumed that we don't hear about it until the Summer. That said a change of direction might be refreshing? The rave last year was great but uncomfortably big.

I have no idea at this stage who will be announced next, its only just over five weeks since the first announcement but it already seems like ages ago when you consider the frequency that other festivals in the UK and Europe are announcing acts. Hopefully they will give some idea of an imminent announcement soon.

Was at the Two Door Cinema Club show in Whelans last night and I forgot how great they are live. Don't think they've been at Picnic since 2011 or 2012 maybe? Would love to see them added now.

Thought they would have been a cert to be added this year with a new album on the way too. They are on a few festival line ups so already I think.

2013, they played after Bjork on the main stage, with Disclosure after them finishing the night.

He's playing festival #6 on the Sunday acc to his site so he would be a very short flight away for the Friday or the Saturday.
