What did you do after downloading the update? Follow the same process of turning phone off etc?

Yep everything else was the same as the instructions apart from one thing. My phone didn't have "install from local" but install from SD is the same thing anyway.

Apps are optimising now. Should be able to tell you if it worked in less than 10 minutes.

yep thats it. just download straight to your phone. no faffing around with pcs.

Lovely stuff, I'll just wait for Jayop to report back. I am losing my mind with how often this freezes and needs rebooted, I'm hoping an update can help this.

All good. Have to update google play services and add my fingerprints again but initital reports are that it works.

well i'll report. the fingerprint scanner is a lot faster. the phone seems much faster and no lag. i am getting a "google services update" warning, but i can download from play. you will have to reenter your fingerprints to use it. lets see how the battery stats check out.

Getting the same error message about Google play but can't seem to resolve it. No biggie.

setting up the fingerprint thing again is a bit of a pain. is the new 'google' button lower or more sensitive? i keep pressing it when setting my fingerprint.

Anyone try this on a stock rooted phone yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,459 ✭✭✭T-b0n3

Updated with no issues this morning using the links above.

But the best news is that it has fixed my home button! Delighted :)

I feared it was water damaged and broken for good. I had tried everything else to fix it previously.

Havent updated yet - will try to do it tonight but I have been having issues with lagging, when you click on an app, it takes a bit to open etc & I saw that others on here had the same issue so does this upgrade fix this?

Mine is like a new phone again. Lightening quick at everything I've tried to do.

Battery life decent. Charges to 82 last night and after watching a half hour video and about an hour of other use its at 52 this morning 8 hours later.

I jumped the gun a little bit on this. The home button is working again, which is progress. But when I try to add my fingerprints I get an error message.

I'll do a full wipe and install Marshmellow over the weekend and hope that works.

OnePlus support have been quick and helpful via email, but if the phone is deemed to have been exposed to liquid the cost of repair would be an estimated €235 plus taxes and shipping, which I don't feel is worth it. I'd also be phoneless for 2-3 weeks.

I skiied two runs with the phone in my trouser pockets and when I took the phone out it had some steam/moisture from the heat of my body and the home button wouldn't work. Frustrating to say the least, and it was the last run of the trip!

So Updated this morning and pretty much ever since my phone has been awake non stop sucking the battery down. I have android system as taking up 28% of battery usage. What's happening here.

That's really weird. I've only used 42 percent in 16 hours.

Will it not lock when you press power?

Android system using 20% of mine. That's a problem. Probably related to that Google services update warning I keep getting.

Do you lose all your settings for apps etc like logins etc? Do you have to set up all the apps again?

Nope. If you're running stock then you do a dirty install and keep all your data.

You do have to add the fingerprint again but it's quicker.

Yep locks fine but the phone has been awake the whole time. No idea why.

Go Settings-App Permissions and go through all the apps and make sure 'Keep Awake' is turned off on them.

    This should extend your battery.

I am really liking the update - smooth & quick

Ok so I may have been an idiot and didn't realise my phone wasn't fully charged when I updated so that's why the system was taking up 30% of the battery. Woops.

As a technophobe is this worth doing for my oneplustwo as I wouldn't be majorly clever when it comes to IT? Do I need to root it first?

All you have to do is download the file & then save it to your phone, turn off your phone & start it with the volume down button pressed to get the option to boot it from the downloaded zip file & thats it...takes about 40 minutes, the long part is when it goes through all your apps to optimize. But during the install, there is nothing to do. You dont need to root it - and if you find your phone lagging a bit now (like I did, it will run so smoothly. The only thing that you lose is if you have set up fingerprints, you gotta set these up again.

Just follow this for screen shots & the download

It's a piece of piss patmac. Anyone could do it.

Also, to save one step just download the file directly to your phone and then you don't have to do the file transfer.

Will I lose any of my information or apps or anything like that if I upgrade?

The phone can use a lot of battery during the install itself, this is why it seems like android system is really power hungry. After a good charge it should be fine. :)

As an aside, I'd recommend only flashing the phone while its plugged in. In most cases it's fine but many a time I've had the flashing process hang for a while.
