If there is a rematch fight should be at 170, cause if you lose at 170 you can't say I'd beat you at 155.If you wanna beat who ever beat you its got to be same rules as before.

The hype over the number 200 is a bit silly. I can't wait for UFC 300 myself.

Will the Fight be at 155 or 170?

For me the loss of energy in round 2 was a mixture of getting tagged way more than he is used to and nerves / panic.....McGregor has looked unbelievably relaxed in the Octagon usually, but he was clearly something other than relaxed in there against Diaz. That may have had something to do with having looked up to Diaz when he was younger, or the panic of realising his shots wouldn't put Diaz down....

But one other thing that I hadn't considered before was the effect that the absence of a significant weight cut may have had on his nerves coming into the fight. Usually in the week leading up to the fight McGregor is using all his energy to merely keep going and do the bare minimum in media obligations due to the strain he is putting on his body. Its a huge drain on his energy and it takes all his focus to make weight well.

Against Diaz he had no weight cut, so all that time he would have taken focusing on that was time he could be thinking about the fight, time that doubts could be creeping into his head etc....He certainly didn't seem to have the level of calm that he typically does during fight week, he was still hyperactive and making his wild claims. Seeing as he is likely to have no weight cut this time around, I wonder will they plan to have a structure in place to keep him laser-focused and calm in the build-up....try to mimic the mindset that he seemed to attain through the weight-cut in some way....

As I type this I know myself I sound bat**** crazy but I can't help but think it had some effect on how quickly he gassed...it just couldnt be for lack of cardio!

Is there nobody around Mc Gregor willing or able to tell him no

I've no idea what kind of money is involved for this fight but I'm assuming it's massive?

He will attack the body like he did mendes and try to tire him that way.

That's the only other tactic I can think when jk says we will try a different method.

Is this fight definitely at 170?

There is, but his ego is deaf.

    Yup.

Promo poster Dana White tweeted had 'welterweight bout' on it.

Or maybe it was the extra weight combined with the chest infection that killed him.

I hope the Aldo/ Edgar fight is the main event. I also hope Conor Wins

Where's giving the best odds for Diaz?

PP are 9/10 for both of them, Ladbrokes are 11/10 for Diaz...

Seems very close odds right now but I expect Diaz to drift when people start backing Conor.

I reckon the UFC are desperate to get a McGregor v GSP superfight on, think of the money in that one. To do that though they need McGregor to get by a credible opponent at 170. If they had got it last time they could have announced it for UFC 200. It didn't go their way so just like an Irish referendum, do it again until you get the result you want! If they get it this time then McGregor v GSP for one of the New York cards. Probably conspiracy theory nonsense but with the noises coming from GSP camp of late i.e. he will come back for right fights and money etc. perhaps not.

It seems obvious what's going down here, especially if the FW Interim Title Fight is announced.

McGregor beats Diaz, he gets GSP (or possibly Lawlor), which will make it the highest ever buy rate for a UFC Show, making both of them a chunk load of change.

If McGregor loses, he'll drop down to 145, another big money bout for the title, and he's still completely untested in the UFC at 155, leaving that completely open.

He's a bloody smart man, and he knows how to make his money. Fair play to him.

    And that's why you're not a promoter.

You mean I don't lap up the **** like joe.ie or the likes, watching ufc for 15 years and I'll call a spade a spade imo.

Was round 1 as clear a win for McGregor as JK makes out in the 42.ie article? Personally I didn't think so, pretty even from what I saw. Also sounds like a points style plan for the next one from what JK is saying - nothing wrong with that given how last fight went but it will make the thrash talk re crushing hips, crashing heads off canvas etc. a little more difficult this time out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,307 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

Fighting Diaz again is obviously a more interesting fight than Aldo or Edgar.

Career wise I'd rather it was at 155 but either way I can't wait to see what happens.

Compared to Brock and GSP in title fights though the 200 card leaves a bit to be desired so far. The co main better be whopper.

I guess you won't be watching the show then - and it'll only do 1.599999 million buys now. UFC will be gutted.

lol - watching for 15 years and you still don't understand the business of it. I'd be embarrassed to admit that.

Of course I understand the business of it, what's your problem with my opinion of it being a bad fight, its not for title, the fight happened and he lost he has other obligations to fulfil as champ of the division.

I live in Ireland and have BT sports, my watching will not affect any "buys" as you say. Who should be embarrassed now? I watch most numbered events live and watch other cards first thing in morning so I will indeed see it live.

Co-main will be RDA for sure

155 makes more sense esp if they are adding RDA, gives more fluidity if injuries occur.

I can't see 3 potentially 25 minute fights. Edgar-Aldo will be co-main. Putting RDA vs Alvarez does nothing to improve the card.
