    clare 1-20 1-09 longford

easy win in the end for the footballers , promotion not guaranteed yet but no reason to fear kildare next week in newbridge on todays performance and in general through out the league bar a poor outing up in tullamore
    last time out

it was the younger players again that added too much for the opposition , leading by 1 point at half time ,clare had a strong wind at there backs in the 2nd and to be fair the game was over as a contest 10 minuets after the restart

colm collin's aim at the start of his 3 year tenure back in 2013 was to gain promotion to division two , given the state of football in the county at the time i dont think any one here taught that to be possible , a win or draw next weekend will see us go up

david tubridy and jamie malone lead the scoreing drive while cathal o'connor seanie malone keelan sexton and kevin hartnet were the best on the field , longford goalkeeper paddy colum saved longford from a heaver defeat with some brilliant point blank saves

    scorers
david tubridy 1-05 jamie malone 0-5 keelan sexton eoin cleary 0-3 each pearse lillis 0-2 shane mcgrath cathal o connor 0-1 each

2 teams up, so if Offaly or Tipp win and we don't win we aren't promoted, if Offaly and Tipp both win we go up, if we win or draw we go up.

Hopefully Kildare will rest a few players as we can get a result away, without that I'd say Offaly are a sure bet against a regulated Limerick, Tipp have their county champions back but have a difficult trip against Sligo, I fear we'll have to get something to go up.

unless there is a draw in sligo one of them teams will be on 8 points , so should offaly win and clare lose you would have 3 teams on 8 points whith clare the superior scoring difference , however i would be fairly hopeful of getting something out of newbridge

Very good point, I forgot about Sligo being on 6 points, almost hoping for Limerick to lie down so

longford will also go on to 8 points should they beat westmeath at home next week , there dose'nt seem to be mutch betwen them two teams also from what i have seen , but the easiest way for us to go up is to win our last game , i am not too sure if kildare are that much better then us

A nice draw against Kildare to setup a final in Croke Park would be nice as well :P

Sligo v Tipperary - You'd imagine that home advantage would be worth the win here but Tipp have their heavy hitters back as well, wouldn't be surprised with a draw but any win will do
Longford v Westmeath - Westmeath have a proud history and won't go down without a fight, Longford weren't interested in the second half today but have something to play for next week, again home field advantage is crucial.
Limerick v Offaly - Limerick have had a terrible season, hard to see past an Offaly win here

Kildare v Clare, amaingly considering we were only promoted last year we're kicking ourselves for not being promoted with a round to spare. Clare will be going in on the back of a great performance, Kildare will already be looking forward to the final.

it's a great position to be in really , i would still regard tipp as the best side in this division ,however several factors have gone against them this year , my opinion is we should set out to win our own battle next week , everything else will be a bonus for the rest of the year after that should we go up , the league is the only way for counties like clare to progress it has worked well for monaghan , rosscommon and now cavan in recent years , there all similar counties to ourselves that have worked there way up from the bottom divisions

If teams finish level on points, is it score difference that counts or head to head result between the teams?

If it's only 2 teams then it's head to head, more than that and it's scoring differences

What about if Longford, Sligo and Offaly were to win along with a Clare loss? In that case Offaly have beaten us, Sligo and Longford already. Will that still go to scoring difference?

if clare are level with one team on 8 points head to head will kick in , but if more then one team level on 8 points it will boil down to scoring average , clare are + 30 in this regard and far superior then everyone else

So really we just need to Longford or Sligo to win and we are up as we have won the head to head with both of those and if any other teams are involved then scoring difference will come into play

head to head only counts if two teams are tied , if you have 3 or 4 teams tied it is separated by scoring average , so for example if clare tipperary and offaly are level on 8 points head to head will not count , and even though we lost to both teams we would still go up , what we do not want is to be level with just tipperary or offaly on there own

Roscommon went from Div 4 to Div 1 in five years.

    Just saying, like

if we do go up next week i cant see us being as effective as roscommon , but the league is the only way a team like clare can improve , i think monaghan did something similar and cavan seem to be doing the same , but yes given where we were two and a half years ago it would be a very impressive achievement if we got two promotions in less then 3 years

Good breakdown of what needs to happen on http://www.rte.ie/sport/gaa/2016/0329/778103-allianz-football-league-final-day-permutations/

I do find the capitalization of the D in down as kind of amusing :D

They have seemed to rule Tipp almost out of the equation in that breakdown. If Limerick beat Offaly at home and both Tipperary and Westmeath win then Tipp are going up based on the head to head with us. That could easily happen. Limerick have been very close to a few wins and could win at home, Tipp should have the beating of Sligo and Westmeath have had a couple of good results recently (especially winning in Tullamore) and will be desperate to avoid three consecutive relegations from Division 1 straight down to Division 4

under 21`s beat kilkenny monday. Kilkenny had most of their squad aparently
o gorman duggan gleeson conroy o malley and shanaher took no part shane taylor went off after 20 mins injured.
real boost to the squad`s morale facing into a huge test in waterford

forgot mikey o'malley is still u21 still think he is a serious prospect , was expecting him to see more senior game time in the league ,

he is underage next year again
he played very very well in the fitzgibbon cup but he does have some issues with decision making.
extremely skillful hurler but he can do odd things. the brilliant score for the intermediates last year followed by a really really bad wide when we were on a bit of a roll simply because of a lack of concentration and bouncing the ball off the ground v limerick when he didnt need to being examples

if we get the defence right waterford will have to go hard to win

Any idea who will be at 6 this year? I think thats one of the key positions the management will need to get right. O'Gorman and McGuane were good on the wings last year, but I dont think their centers backs. McCarthy is another good wing back too from the minors or Fox that played for Ard Scoil over the weekend?

I think RTE have done poor job on their permutations. I maybe wrong but the way I see it is that Tipperary have the best chance of catching Clare as they need clare to lose, offaly to lose or draw and westmeath to win.
For Offaly, they need to win first and hope tipp and sligo is a draw and westmeath to win and clare to lose.
I dont see how Sligo and Longford have any chance unless clare get beaten by about 30-35 points.

Well, it seems to say Cork-Kerry football with throw-in at 2.00, then Clare-Tipp with throw-in 3.45. Which would be live.

Anyways at least they are showing it

Tipperary have changed their goalkeeper for Sunday, I hope that he is well tested.

I'd hope his puck out will be tested, I doubt his spot stopping will be
