It's nearly as big an abomination as Ireland's Call

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,067 ✭✭✭✭fryup

Commemorating and if you still cannot see past your own bigotry to see why 1916 was important enough for commemoration then there is little hope in you ever understanding the period

i merely question the commemorations and you call me a bigot:rolleyes: maybe you're the bigot

Should probably cancel all the orange parades too by that logic.

i'd support that as well, ban all military parades

A military parade for a military defeat? only in Ireland I guess.

You are familiar with Anzac Day right?

we're in the middle of a peace process on this island do we really need to be strirring things up like this???....a man was killed in a bomb blast in belfast just last month..and i'm sure some real IRA fanatics are planning a "spectacular" before the years out

Jesus Christ, every july we have a mass exodus if Irish people from the north because of the **** stirring confrontational 'celebration' by a bunch of sectarian bigoted Neanderthals. Only one year we decide to throw bit of a bigger bash than we normally do and you are afraid that some people are going to be offended?

Dude seriously you live in a country you hate which is celebrating something you hate. Ever think of moving? I can't remember the last happy post you posted.

I wish we could get away from the idea that if you're not a nationalist you must hate your country rethoric.

It's a prime example of groupthink and very dangerous groupthink at that as it encourages aggression towards those who don't conform.

    Mod

    Same ****e, different day.

If someone disagrees with you they aren't automatically trolling, discuss and rebut, attack the post and not the poster.

That said, there are a few here that are on a wind up. I've let it go till now but that's it. This is your warning, give it a rest. Take heed or get banned.

Probably the vast majority of people who enjoyed today's events would not call themselves 'nationalist' in any way.

The post that you have quoted is correct. You clearly have a big problem with this country.

I was thinking the same. A few young Irish children of differing cultures showing our future and our inclusion.

We didn't win our independence with a multicultural children's brigade.

Watched it on RTE through my dodgy satellite box, looked good and the city looked great from the aerial shots

It did look good, thought it was a shame they didn't have the aerial shots a bit closer in to the crowds though, couldn't really get the sense of the numbers of people from so high up, just the street scapes. Drone shots mixed with the helicopter shots would have been great.

There should be a rising themed biscuit?

I take nothing to do with it, it is full of 26 county nationalists, not the sort of nationalism that the comrades during 1916 and the war of independence fought for, for example Martin McGuinness would have more in common with them than Enda Kenny would.

Then maybe the 1916 leaders should have tried to reach out more to the Presbyterians/Ulster Scots. Many are fond of 1798 so it's not like they're anti-revolution. The Land Wars being another point of brief unity. Yet very little campaigning was ever done on that front.

I was a bit bemused by the budget communist style military parade, but no strong feelings either way. I'm surprised some fool didn't try to plant a bomb though.

Remembrance Day in Europe has military marches -- I've never seen anyone call them communist style. Why is ours different?

The vehicles was the thing that minded me of the old Soviet parades, not the troops. Don't see many/any vehicles in Remembrance day parades.

You know what it's great being Irish. Winning the lottery of life!

We should do this more often.

I've travelled to Belfast on the 12th and stayed in some very nice hotels for next to nothing. Don't knock it.

It did look good, thought it was a shame they didn't have the aerial shots a bit closer in to the crowds though,
A neighbour who was there texted that there was not many there, crowd probably smaller than expected.

This despite all the radio adds urging people to come in to the city to watch it etc.

No one going to mention the army officer ringing his mammy as the President stood to attention? I'm thinking toilets and a toothbrush may be called upon.

    This too shall pass.

If you post things like 'only in ireland lol' while ignoring when other countries do it of course people are going to think you hate the country

That was funny, someone is going to be on latrine and boot polishing duty for a while.

So we can't make fun of ourselves anymore?

I'm a little surprised at some of the comments, I thought it was absolutely brilliant - all of our services were there, these lads rarely get any bit of recognition so it was nice for them to be able to be proud today

For the poster that thought it should have been a celebration of Ireland today - I thought it was with ambulances, motorbikes, tanks etc its how we are now and how we portray ourselves around the world

Dublin looked amazing from a height too

Really? ANZAC day commemorates the glorious victory that was Gallipoli?

    Your neighbour was where?

You do realise the parade was for miles so maybe your neighbour walked with the parade noting the crowd numbers every 100m to text you so you can come on boards and give this exclusive information
