RTE had some fantastic camera work both on ground and in the air. It was a great watch.

Really? Did sky say that? Bitchy, like they have done so well. Plenty of scandals and oppression to be found within their own shores.

That was a statement made by the Queen

Don't bother suggesting I don't know the history - I do. It's the make believe stuff I have a problem with.

Well I'm telling you that you do not know your history. Your teachers and your parents failed you.

To suggest some of the things that you have, including bombings starting up because of today, really shows your ignorance and complete lack of understanding on Irish history.

i for one was a bit sick of 1916 this and 1916 the other every time you you turned telly or radio over the last few months , but i watched the parade this morning and thought the organisers and participants done themselves proud and i felt a bit of pride for our little nation
in my opinion the defence forces looked very well , and i think its a tribute to them that they are held in higher regard outside of ireland than they are by some of the a..holes in this country

I'm not a lover of Ivan Yates by any stretch of the imagination, but he sums up the way I feel in the lead up to today, and the way I still feel after watching it earlier

Quiet clearly referred to the emergency services in the official commentary.

    This sounds like an oxymoron.

Just to point out the disgrace our main street is the military ceremony saw the defence forces marching past Ann Summers in shot. Classy. Why can't we have a proper thoroughfare where standards are applied?

    Why is this so militaristic?
How many of today's marcher's would have been in the GPO, if alive 100 years back?

In truth, I thought the cameras did a great job in terms of hiding most of the shops/restaurants.

Can't say I noticed them too much because I wasn't actively seeking them out as such.

I was a bit bemused by the budget communist style military parade, but no strong feelings either way. I'm surprised some fool didn't try to plant a bomb though.

    Think we all know that.

Just back from it. Very tastefully done and proud.

And no marching down streets where they're not wanted or burning flags in bonfires.
Brilliant post. I'm just back from it myself, great atmosphere.
There was even a Union Jack in the parade which I think shows how far we've come.

Pointless militarism. Lots of pomp and self important posturing to celebrate an act of baseless thuggery by a small rabble of gob****es.
It will give a great boost to the Shinners and probably reinvigorate the ranks of the militants - won't be long before the bombing will start again - as happened after 1966.

    Time of the month?

I'm reminded of N. Korea or China in their militaristic pomp

But you are not every single democracy that has these parades.

Tough gig for the musicians, looks baltic. Never seen a cello player play with gloves before! Was a little worried when they started with a German composer but glad to see they are focusing on Irish composers now.

I thought the irony was strong watching Martin McGuinness clapping as the 88 gardai marched representing each member of the force who lost their lives on duty serving the state.

I'm sure he didn't kill all of them in fairness.

Just back in from it. A great historic day which I hope will lead people to reflect on where we are as a nation, and where we hope to be in another 100 years.

I see we have the same self-loathing from the same people on here. Thankfully they are a tiny minority. Could you not give it a rest for the day that's in it.

Better keep our eye on you. According to another poster on here you'll be dying to blow things up now after watching that.

+1. And hypocritical, condemning other Republican extremists who took up arms without a mandate (and who killed thousands of Irish people since '16) while condoning (to put it mildly) the Republican extremists who took up arms in 1916.

Interesting to see what some others say about us. From the sky thread:
"Celebrating independence and they've done so well. Their economies on its arse and was dire for decades prior to handouts from the eu. They're riven with scandal after scandal about how they've treated their citizens, the Catholic Church has often been at the centre of them in collusion with the Irish government. Does the Irish state have a lot to be proud of since independence?"

Searching around the threads of murdochs online rags for atypical English anti-Irish bigotry tells us a lot about you.

Watched it on RTE through my dodgy satellite box, looked good and the city looked great from the aerial shots
