Off topic from the LNB queries I know, but im curious to know if the Sky Q app on your tablet which will allow you to watch your recordings while on the move , will work abroad ? as in can you take your recordings on hols and watch in Lanzarote etc ? or will the detection of a foreign IP address render it unplayable ?

I managed to get a Hybrid lnb installed a week after my initial installation.
I have a Setanta subscription on 2 boxes & got it installed so I can continue to watch Setanta on my old multiroom box as it does not work on the Q mini.

The Sky call centre staff kept dodging my request by not returning my calls, so I called the post install support number for Sierra (can't think of their new name) & they sorted it for me.

I will take some pics of it tomorrow & post them here.

Just checked out your query using a VPN and recorded programmes will play outside Ireland & UK. I only tried it with 1 programme and a popup informed me that it is only valid for 48hrs after you press play the first time. This is probably standard across the board but I'm not 100% sure.

The information plate on the LNB would be interesting.

Thanks for that. Another positive feature for Sky Q.

Is there a limitation on what can be downloaded onto a tablet. I checked my recordings tonight and anything on skysports doesnt appear in the downloadable recordings.

So you're saying the Sky supplied hybrid LNB is an interim solution until they allow manufacturers to produce hybrid LNBs to Sky specs for the retail market?

    Nope. :pac:

Any news on when this will be available to non Sky broadband customers?

I've heard July, some non-BB trial installs were done.

A question if I may though? You'd be missing out on one of the main features, the boosted wifi network. Do you mind me asking what your broadband setup is? What's your stance on them potentially interfering with access points etc. that you might have set up?

I wouldnt be saying a date like that unless you were sure.

There are limitations. I know you can't download anything recorded on BBC or C4 and I think sports are restricted also.

Considering that Virgin are effectively throttling Sky Go at the moment (along with Netflix and some other high traffic services), using other ISPs might deliver a poorer experience.

It's simply what I've heard. Why would a wrong date be an issue, the universe it very unlikely to end - well granted I think some people think it might :pac:

Are RTE/TV3 programmes restricted ? If so, I've changed my mind and would think that this Sky Q app is useless.

To be honest I don't know but just tried to download a program recorded from RTE and I got a message stating "This item has already been downloaded the maximum number of times". I hadn't downloaded it at all so don't know what that is about. I was able to download a different RTE program with no bother so maybe it's a fault with the first one, or maybe some programs can and some can't. A program recorded on TV3 gave me no option to D/L, but I have no other TV3 recordings to check, will put something recording and try later.

I'm moving to a new house in a brand new estate, Eir is showing up as 2Mb. I'm also on a 12months half price with VM so in no rush to get out of that as you can imagine!!

I'm not worried to much about interference etc, new house has Cat5e in every room so would just hook the boxes up to that. I'm also a network engineer so not to concerned on that side of things :)

Any idea why the delay to summer when it's already sorted out in the UK?

Different set ups, resources going into the UK first. As was pointed out above I've no actual idea when it's going live here, I just heard July being kicked about.

I expect that Sky get more co-operation from third parties in the UK as Ofcom are marginally effective unlike the chocolate teapot which is the Comreg. Not that I'm blaming anyone other than Sky here. To be fair they just want to make sure it's right before it's rolled out.

Sky have announced a price increase for Sky Q to kick in come June, £2 in the UK so expect it to be about €2.50 to €3 here.

I predict Irish Subscribers should be contacted in three months about the increases
At least the Sky Q subscribers can enjoy the fluid viewing for more in the future

From a post over on the Sky community forum, SkyQ compatible dSCR multiswitches will become available through retail outlets over the coming months from Johansson and Triax

A lot of the new Linux boxes have new full band capture tuners. It's that essentially what sky Q is using so it would be possible to switch it out to a fta setup at a later date while still using the Sky Q LNB?

I think it also means a single cable could be split to all tv points and still deliver recording functionality (much like can be done with Saorview/Virgin)

    All just guessing though

The new SkyQ wideband LNB requires 2 cables to feed the full range of frequencies to each TV point because they are split across 2 polarisations H/V. The wideband LNB sends 1 polarisation down each cable. A Saorview aerial only requires a single cable to be split because each transmitter uses a single polarisation H or V.

I haven't seen the Linux FBC setup but I assume if it has the 2 inputs for a wideband LNB it should work with the new SkyQ standard LNB.

They may delay the ROI price increase a bit because we only had a price increase in December and it might be seen as a bit much, even from Sky, to be talking about another one this early. No doubt we will see one in the latter half of the year though.

I'm hesitant to talk to much about prices on this thread though, because we have another thread dedicated to discussing prices.

They could increase Q I guess given there was no increase on this product.

Pretty bloody poor form IMHO. Even a small increase just after you've got the thing - I wonder if some concession will be given like prices not affecting existing SkyQ customers for a while?

Anybody's box make noise? Not all the time but sometimes like a whirring kind of noise. When I plug out it stops but that's not practical if I'm recording program.
