    Tuesday 22nd March 5.6 miles @ 11:15

Another non technology run :) I enjoyed this again this evening despite the fact I wasn't feeling too great over the day, tired, a bit lightheaded and some stomach discomfort. Am still having a problem eating, when I got home after the run I couldn't face the thought of eating dinner, managed something small but probably not enough.

Am off work now until next Tuesday - ironically I took tomorrow off to do my 14 miles @ mp run - instead its a trip to the GP for tests! Never mind, I might get a chance to do it yet if things pick up towards the end of the week.

Physio session after the run with new guy who's started up locally - he was very thorough, main issue is the pins and needles in my arms when running - he sussed the problem very quickly and proceeded to inflict untold pain - however, am much looser after that and I feel much better too. Have some exercises to do too.

Treat the dinner/food like dragging yourself out the door on a wet miserable evening.......not pleasant but it has to be done and you will feel better for it. Best of luck with the GP tomorrow. Make sure you stick the boot in about getting results back sooner rather than later.

Out of curiosity did physio see posture as the toot cause of your problem? Was your neck or shoulder the area he ended up working on? Also do you get them in one or both arms?

He didn't - however, I can feel a difference...it's mostly my right arm but happens in both. The area he worked on was just under my shoulder blades - oh my God - he also worked on my lats (back of the arm ) he said everything is extremely tight.

ECG was fine this morning & I asked for all the blood tests recommend from here - told the receptionist I need the results urgently so hopefully that works!

That's what the doctor said when she rang me, only a few hours after I'd dropped my bloods to Navan hospital...

The bad news (luckily!) is that I can't run Rotterdam - the good news is that 'we will have you back running in no time' The reason? I have an overactive thyroid - the level is 59 when it should be 19. So a pretty good service in the end..

I've started the meds already but I need to go for some tests to find out why, lots of possible reasons, one possible serious one which needs to be ruled out quite quickly.

Am devastated not to be going, not to be running and I'm gonna miss the most anticipated boards marathon début! I'll be stalking you tang :pac:

BUT... training for Dublin starts in June :) There's a 1:50 half out there with my name on it and who knows, maybe I'll go straight for a sub 4 :D

It seems I can still run, just not a marathon (for now) as others have already said she is erring on the side of caution and rightly so.

I've yet to google the condition (thyrotoxicosis) but the GP said it explains all of the symptoms I've been having including the rapid heart beat - it also explains the weight loss it seems and the lack of appetite.

All has not been lost, I've thoroughly enjoyed the training and I can't wait to get started on it again, I've a 1:26:52 10 mile PB and a 1:56:41 half and I got to run with lots of lovely people in the last 15 weeks.

I can't thank you all enough, for the advice, the PM's, the phone calls, emails, and the wine!! which I'm about to get stuck into right now, thanks S :p

Christ, I have every single symptom listed...

The symptoms and signs of Graves’ hyperthyroidism are due to the effects of excess amounts of thyroid hormone on body function and metabolism. Common symptoms include weight loss, nervousness, irritability, intolerance to hot weather, excessive sweating, shakiness, and muscle weakness. Other signs include a rapid pulse, loss of body fat and muscle bulk, thyroid enlargement (goitre), fine tremors of the fingers and hot, moist, velvety skin.

Would you not join the Rotterdam crew as cheerleader? (and set yourself up in a nice cafe with a glass of wine to see them run past) ...

Great that they got the results so quick and let's hope they'll have it corrected in no time. Looking forward to the Race Series PBs :) not to mention the DCM report.

That was suggested earlier alright - I don't think so though, I'm not sure I could go and not run... and watch everyone celebrating their super PB's (very selfish I know!!) If it was Rome or Venice or Barcelona I possibly would :)

Oh sugar. Sorry to hear that. I suppose it's good that you know what the problem is anyway. Any chance of deferring your entry? Dublin won't be long coming around!

Sorry to hear you won't make Rotterdam. You have a huge base built up that'll stand to you for Dublin though!

So sorry to hear that, you deserve so much more for your hard work. Look after yourself. It will be some pb when u get to race in Dublin :)

So sorry to read that firedance. Stay positive once all is stabilised you'll be back as strong as ever. Take care.

Oh FD, that is really shight for you... You have worked so so hard for the last few months it must be a bitter pill to swallow but you have a great attitude and fair play to you to be able to see the positives in it all. You've a wonderful strong base built which will stand you you no end for DCM. No reason why you can't go for the sub 4 by then.
My mum has overactive thyroid and it's all very much under control with the medication and she doesn't have any side effects so it shouldn't have any negative impact on the training going forward.
    Enjoy the wine!!!!

AM I am gutted for you ;( but as they say your health is your wealth so you did the right thing getting the tests done. Get yourself better and will look forward to cheering you on in Dublin. Take care

Sorry to hear you won't be with us in Rotterdam, I was looking forward to meeting you.

Onwards and upwards though. At least now you know what the problem was and can set about putting it right.

A marathon isn't just what happens on one day. It's the training, the programme, the people you meet on the way, the preparatory races and in your case the pbs you hit en route.
    Long may the progress continue.

Oh no! Fscking thyroids. I had both of mine out 18 months ago due to papillary thyroid cancer (not generally life threatening, but still stressful). Give us a shout if you end up getting any interventional treatment or just want to moan about thyroids :)

 oh chryst S, she mentioned the C word to me too 'we need to rule it out' I nearly had heart failure - luckily someone wiser and calmer than me was on hand to calm me down. I haven't googled that part... I might be in touch! I'm not sure I want to know what interventional treatment is..

Sorry to hear you won't make Rotterdam AM, pain in the ass but it always for the best that you get to the bottom of these things for your health as you can manage it going forward. All the best with the tests and hopefully you'll be back in the swing of things soon and feeling much better.
