What is 15-20% of 1.5 billion? That's the number of Muslims globally who hold extreme views that are incompatible with modern western society. This has been backed up by many polls, such as the numerous ones conducted by Pew.

We are going to be living with events like this occurring every few months for the rest of our lives.

Where do you get these numbers from.

Also doesn't mean those that hold anti-western feelings then went to go to the west and kill people.

Nice to see point scoring on the internet goes on regardless.

RIP to all innocent the people involved.

It's quite telling that the first thing the knuckle draggers do is have a go at religion or immigrants before showing their respect.

Really showing yourselves up there boys and girls.

These knuckledraggers you whine about are prepared to support stronger measures than you to prevent these type of attacks whereas those whining about islamophobia won't do anything sensible that offends their sensibilities or that can be spuriously linked to Hitler in some way.

How respectful is it to apologise for the religion that got these people killed?

I honestly don't know what to think any more- do we shut the borders and refuse to allow any more people who are genuine and legit refugees? Let them die?

Or do continue to allow the surge of unvetted people in, thus creating the extremely dangerous scenario we now have in mainland Europe?

    It's odd.

Even though the death toll could well reach the twenties, and it has occurred in proximity to the EU Parliament and Commission, somehow this attack seems less surprising....as if somehow it was always expected and is going to become the norm.

Much like school shootings in the US.

We should learn from the America's mistakes in failing to deal with these deadly trends and, instead of just accepting them for what they are, tackle them head on.

Just wondering, is there any proof that this was a ISIS related attack?

Who else do you think it could have been?

So an eyewitness statement isnt good enough for you. Maybe because you dont like the message?

    What do you want?

Me putting someone from Molenbeek in front of you who confirms what is in the newspaper reported by AFP?

Keep the " I dont like what i read cause it interferes with my believes" act up.

Go live there in Molenbeek and see for yourself if you dont believe me or AFP.

One "eye witness" account does not equal evidence that "everyone in the area knew he was there" Why didn't this "eye witness" come forward with this info if she knew he was there?

As for my beliefs? Care to tell me what they are seeing as you know me so well?

It shows how inept the security are of stopping these things, or how much they value the lives of ordinary citizens. It's just numbers they can use to fear monger the public. "We knew the effect capturing Absellam would have on other cells, pushing them into action".
    <snip>
indeed. I found it strange that on my last 2 visits to brussels airport there just were a few lads with guns from the army but no bag checks or other invasive security measures like you would know from Belfast back in the days.

It is too much of a risk to allow them into Ireland and any other country.

You cannot stop terrorists attacks completely, no matter how much you spend on security.

Brussels is supposed to be on high alert and this attack gets through the net. Have to say personally if I was going to the Euros this summer, I'd be rethinking my plans.

Europe needs to get its sh**t together pronto and until such a time, it will be difficult to feel 100% secure.

It would need strict border controls.

The death toll has reached the twenties, so far 11 from the airport and 10 from Maelbeek. It doesn't seem less surprising to me, surely as the centre of the most important offices in the whole city, the place most at risk, then the lockdown should have applied here more than most places??

Having said that, you normally never see guns in western European airports.

In the 6 middle eastern countries ive been for almost the last decade, you cannot live there unless you have a degree from a reputable Uni, have a job before you get there, finger printed and don't break any of the laws and respect the local custom.

Lose your job and you're gone.

    That's for a start.

Most important thing is that the couple of 100 ISIS people that live in Ireland get to stay in Ireland now

    Human rights and all that.

Within next couple of years this will happen here. Make no mistake.

    EVENFLOW

    Unfortunately this is mainly homegrown.

Ghettoizing neighbourhoods was the worst thing to do, proper integration is needed - but this is a pipe dream and will never happen.

Well the police are all armed for a start,

Anyhow how would armed police stop people walking into a building and blowing themselves up?

To me the attracts in mainland Europe although inspired by isis ( most likely ) have more in common with the sort of mass shooting you get in the US.

resentment against a society where they were not a success often to do with a lack of academic ability, isis gave them a legitimacy for their resentment Its all about a need for status.

Trump is going to feed off this like Popeye on Spinach. Wait and see how he twists this to support his xenophobic views.

P.S. don't read the CNBC comments on their website, it's maddening. Writing off Europe, calling for a Trump in Europe, backing Trumps views now that this "validation" has occurred.

Problem with that theory, is they are often quite well educated.

And there it is. If somebody is prepared to strap themselves with explosives, there's very little which can be done in the way of prevention. In any country.

Sometimes I am extremely thankful the people of Boards don't have a proper say in these things.

Yes, lets all jump to conclusions and belittle those who go "hold in a second". Yes, there is a good chance it was ISIS. However, if there is no proof (which, by the nature of your posts, we can assume the answer was no"), but until then, it would be more prudent to find out who it really was before drawing up all these immigration rules etc. I know it's the internet and all, but the lack of common sense and mob mentality can be quite destressing at times.

As an aside (and not to detract from the main discussion which is the loss of life here), I feel this will have a major impact on Britain exiting the EU. The EU's completely passive response to the influx of migrants without any background checks or vetting is quite irresponsible and I'd say that will only further strengthen the belief of many in the UK that securing their border is far more important, since the EU has been incapable to do so itself

I'm transferring from one employer in the Middle East to another in the same country. Here's what I've had to do thus far. Bear in mind I've been in the country for over 3 years.
    • Scan of passport
    • Scan of National ID
    • Scan of degree
    • Attestation of degree
    • Stamp from Ministry of Foreign Affairs for degree
    • Police Clearance Certificate + stamps from Ireland and Qatari Embassy in London
    • Medical testing (chest X-ray, blood draw)
    • Three months of pay slips
    • No-objection letter from previous employer
    • Computer card from previous employer
    • Employment transfer form from previous employer
    • MMR shot
    • Varicella shot
    • Tdap shot
    • TB test

Go live in Molenbeek. Or any other European city that has a "Molenbeek"
    Experience it.
