Pat appears to be expecting everyone who ever associated with the project to prostrate themselves and beg forgiveness for a cheated Retro community, which is unfortunate seeing as no one actually lost any money and expecting Gamester 81, John, to apologise too, when he was just as at odds with the project as everyone else watching, particularly seeing as he was attached at one point.

I think in John's case it seemed quite naive, and surprising considering he releases games anyway, to be involved without seeing the games he was making in action or at the very least to see the supposed FPGA core that they claimed they had written which was very suspect already because of the time it would take to do that. He was attached up to the day before the Kickstarter was due to be launched which is quite late in the day after all that happened really. None of it is John's fault of course but I think he'd probably rethink associations after this, especially after his AtariAge misstep and blind defence of Mike Kennedy which is what I think Pat was mostly referring to. Mike and Retro VGS's actions are almost staggering really that they think gamers online are braindead dummies and I for one am glad for the scorn they have got. Like everything else online, some people go too far and now with the sites being pulled that should be the end of it.

I wonder will he throw his rattle out of the pram if they don't. After seeing some of his recent carry on I suppose anything is possible.

Its an absolute disaster of a project, but as long as nobody lost money (and it wasn't just a very peculiar scam) then I don't see why anyone needs to apologize.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,274 ✭✭✭MrVestek

Pat does seem to be part of that entitled generation alright.

His recent videos make out like people who originally backed the project need to apologise to him and everyone else.
I mean... how bloody entitled can you get?
Not to mention his recent treatment of our very own BajoGuyOllie.

He's a bit of a tw@twaffle if you ask me...

What actually happened with Ollie? I don't follow Pat on youtube, comes across as too much of a douche to be seeing popping up on my feed all the time.

Probably best if Ollie were to explain, if he wants to.

I thought he had posted about it on here but perhaps not so it's not really my business to talk about.

I think ye are very harsh on Pat lads :pac:

I like his podcasts and he is pretty opinionated on things. I guess it's very annoying to see a company bluff their way through trying to sell you an outrageous lie and try to cover it up in the most embarrassing ways, and especially with something that Pat has long been involved in retro wise. The Retro VGS team were also extremely negative and rude to any questioning of them in both the original product and the failed Kickstarter campaigns.

I don't think Pat expects people who backed it to apologise or anything like that at all to be honest. I haven't heard him say that in any of the podcasts he's done about it.

I think Pat's sound, say he's an interesting fella, good for a pint or something lol.

Your man Ian, ugh, can't stand him. I know he knows his sh1t in and out, running a retro shop for years, but God, he comes across as someone who will agree the blue sky is black, to me at least.

On another note. What with all the Pi talk for the past year. I'm totally lost in it all. I take it you have to know what you're doing to get roms and Kodi and the like running on it? Soldering and the like.

Sounds very interesting from what you guys have been saying for the past while!

I see Amazon Japan will now officially ship japanese region games and console to Europe and the UK. Will be handy for limited edition consoles and such, shipping is nice a cheap as well.

I have 2 Kodi Pis set up and they took me no more than five/ten minutes each (and that was my first time using the thing!)

Kodi setup is as easy as it gets. Retropie on the other hand...would appear to be a bit more involved :)

Yeah, I've been putting that one off for a while now myself, ha. Definitely doable, but much more involved than a kodi setup.

The trickiest part for me is deciding what I'd like to use as a controller on the finished setup (mostly because quick decision making is not my thing). I'd rather do it all first time while it's fresh than have to keep going back to set up new stuff.

Retropi is preconfigured to use those USB SNES controllers.

Haha yeah Kodi isn't a problem for most things, it's everything else. I should look into if more. I've seen some amazing things that people do with them on YouTube but they are very advanced and know what they are doing.

Well what are you thinking of doing with it?

To be honest I'm not very well up on electronics and soldering and all that stuff and I've managed to convince the Pi to do some pretty neat stuff like... voice activated entertainment unit for instance.

"Pi, turn on the entertainment unit."

Ping... everything turns on. It wasn't perfect but it was kinda cool and all it required was a special home plug type kit.

Tbh I have no idea what I'd like to do with one just yet. Maybe just buy one, see what things I can do with it and take it from there. Thanks for the link there. And also for the vid up above too, I'll watch that :)

Where would I get the pi 3? Best to buy online?

I see An Post are offering a Parcel Motel type service now.
    addresspal.ie
3.50 per delivery and any post office is your collection point. I've not signed up yet but it looks like you get a real UK address, as in just outside London and not somewhere up north.

had a quick look at it, you have to collect your stuff during the day is the problem, when the post office sorting place is open. which doesnt suit me, the garage is better as its open late and weekends. You can also get a post box on the wall of your house now to, for big packages, its something like 70 euro. now if they combined that, with the uk address service and actually delivered your uk address stuff to your house post box, then i might be interested!

Pretty hefty charges for oversized goods as well. The fact you have to collect during 'office hours' is a non-runner for me.

Yes the oversize charge is a bit ridiculous.

I bought mine from Pimoroni with a Pibow case, it's a pretty good deal for what you get.

Couldn't resist picking up Pandemic Legacy when I saw it in the gaming shop behind Jervis earlier. Really excited to dig in, although have only played the original once. The permanence of Legacy is just fantastically intriguing. Now just to find another player or two happy to commit to a few months play :pac:
