Not the desired result, 1.34.23 today. My hip locked up totally at mile 8 so bad I couldn't bend my left leg for a period. Had to stop twice more with it due to pain. It is what it is, I was due a bad race to be fair. Not overly despondent as sub 90 mins was there only for the hip playing up. Thanks for all the wishes folks, shame I didn't do them justice. Next time hopefully.

Tough break, B. The drive down probably didn't do the hip any good. Don't lose any sleep over it. Eyes on the prize.....onwards and upwards!!

Cheers M, I know I'm way better than what today gave me, just a bad day for me. No sleep will be lost. Give her socks tomorrow.

Absolutely, agree with this, fair play to you too for not letting today get to you, your attitude is to be commended, as you said a great workout still (nothing bad about a 1:34 HM!) and eyes on the prize.

Thanks for the lift, the company & the laughs :)

Good to meet you today, B.
You were going as well as anyone before the injury affected you. You'll be well under 90 when you get your chance. See you in Rotterdam.

Same to you P, great to see a man from Mayo not sandbagging like the footballers!! You were looking very strong till I left ye. See you in Rotterdam and a few trots in France come June.

I knew the Galway lad wasn't far behind. Motivation enough.

Ah sorry to hear it didn't all go to plan today B, but the positive attitude is great and will stand to you in Rotterdam. I hope you get it sorted this week and there is no lasting issues with it.

Cheers A, not to sound cocky I know I'm better than my time today, body just let me down a small bit I'm afraid. Onwards and upwards for Rotterdam.

Thanks DG, will be erring on side of caution for few days till I'm sure the hip is ok.

Not sounding in the least bit cocky, that's all the hard work and training you put in paying off. Now just to get that body of yours to play ball so that you can get to the Rotterdam Start line in one piece and uninjured!!

That's an unfortunate thing to happen, but it's essentially a write-off so I wouldn't think twice about the result/time. Hope the recovery is short. Onwards!

Well done getting back into the Race, and as you said lots more there, and eyes on the prize. Hopefully just a blip.

Sorry to hear about your race Barry. Still a very good result though but not the one you deserve. How is the hip now? Hope it all heals up asap.

Thanks A, ah if I'm totally honest with you it's painful. I didn't think it would be any other way to be fair after the drive back. I'll assess it fully tomorrow when it calms down a bit.

Cheers Cg, won't be thought twice about. It's been erased from the memory already or will be after a few more beers!

Forget the time. I hope the hip is OK. The last five miles couldn't have been easy. Hopefully there's no lasting damage and you'll be right as rain soon.

+1 Fair play for sticking it out to the finish. Rest up well and enjoy your beers :)

Cheers K, as a conversation went today with FD and me on the way back up, that was only my second real concerted effort at sub 90 mins today on both tough routes(Enniscorthy 2013 the other) both nearly 3 years apart. Athlone 2016 owes me big time!!!

I was well behind, I let ye all go during the 2nd mile ffs :D:D

Cagey?? If you heard me panting and seen me flaffing my hands about wildly you would see I was struggling at mile 2 :D:D

You'll be alright B, you know yourself, play it safe over the next few days :)

Sorry to hear about your injury trouble, from the sound of things you did really well to hit 1:34, and 1:29 or better would be guaranteed on a good day.

+1 on the suggestion above about the drive being a contributing factor. I have some sort of hip/groin thing going on for a few years now, and I always tried to avoid driving in the few days before a race - operating the clutch seemed to aggravate it a bit. I was over on the deep southside last night and I had to do an extended reversing manouevre to extract myself from a clogged pub car park and get into the only parking space on a one way street - after operating the clutch while twisted around I could barely walk when I got out of the car.

Since you were able to finish the race you should be okay in a day or two - best to err on the side of caution though this close to the big day.
