Err, I really don't agree with his line of thinking.
In fairness to Tommy, that would be the first time he has been accused of thinking...

Could be worse I suppose, Lisburn and Newry won their city status in a raffle: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/northern_ireland/1872287.stm

Are people from there really called Traleelians? Coz that is a brilliant word.

Does it have a cathedral ?

No, or at least not for the last 900 years when it was part of the Diocese of Ardfert with a Cathedral there, and now part of the Kerry Diocese with a Cathedral in Killarney.

God, I feckin hate Tralee. It's way too small to be considered a city. Don't think it has a cathedral, Killarney does though! They just want to steal our tourists from Killarney. They do have the IT though, which is quite good so I hear. That's it really.. I even consider Cork more of a large town than a city.

Kilkenny folk have for centuries known how citizens must behave and it is in our DNA at this stage ....

whereas Tralee .......well c'mon now :)

Galway is the only one true Irish city.

All the rest were granted city status by the Brit Royal Charter.

Galway the only one by an act of the Oireachtas.

lol at all the butthurt townies annoyed by the idea of Tralee being a city.

City is a meaningless term in Irish local governance.

It's only right that the Kingdom has a city...

It'll show that shower up in Dublin.

This is what happens when an idiot is elected. But the people of Tralee will think he's great for trying to do something while he completely neglects other areas

As a Tralee native most people I know think of McEllistrim as a bit simple. There are very few genuine cities in Ireland. ..Cork wouldn't classify as a city in Spain for example. I think it's Tom just blowing a bit of hot air tbh. Got the town I people's radars anyway!

    There are currently 5 cities:

    Dublin
    Cork
    Limerick
    Galway
    Waterford

Kilkenny isn't one, other than historically.

    Population of Tralee 23,693

If it's based on population, Drogheda and Dundalk would be the most obvious places.

Swords Co. Dublin and Ballncollig Co. Cork would also be way up the list of places.

Tallaght would be WAY up that list, although at this stage it's basically a part of Dublin City anyway.

I guess all the good folk from Tralee will start spending weekends in Killarney to get a break from the rat race of city life.

They already do-but to get away from the rats, not the rat race.

Few people know this but the small town of Cashel was once classed as a city from 1630s to the 1840s.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mI_zIzGvZiY these idiots think Nenagh is a city (apparently Alan Kelly when he was a senator promised to get city status for the town)

We'd have to have the DART to Dingle (and Dustin as president) first!

.Cork wouldn't classify as a city in Spain for example!

New York isn't classified as a city in Spain either, what with it being in the USA and all.

What's the big deal about being a city???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,360 ✭✭✭Boskowski

It all matter of perspective. One might say Ireland has really only one City.

Why are there such a disproportionate number of complete and utter gobshítes in Kerry? The place really is an embarrassment.

Absolutely thick idea from yet another waste-of-space Kerry troglodyte.

    Ooooo, provocative!

I'm here looking across at snow covered Reeks, Atlantic Ocean visible in another direction, thinking of a great weekend with family and friends in this wonderful part of the world...and now you've got me all twisted up and angry...

At one stage, the High King sat in Tuam. And it has a cathedral (two, actually, I believe) I'm starting a campaign.
