Tralee to seek city status.

So now that the population of the town is reaching Kilkenny which is classed as a city, the Traleelians are requesting the same treatment.
I honestly can't see what benefit this will have to the local economy.
Seem silly to me to have city status's for these types of places listed as cities.
Bray/Navan/Ennis are all bigger than Tralee but classed as towns and rightly so.

God, I feckin hate Tralee. It's way too small to be considered a city. Don't think it has a cathedral, Killarney does though! They just want to steal our tourists from Killarney. They do have the IT though, which is quite good so I hear. That's it really.. I even consider Cork more of a large town than a city.

As a Tralee native most people I know think of McEllistrim as a bit simple. There are very few genuine cities in Ireland. ..Cork wouldn't classify as a city in Spain for example. I think it's Tom just blowing a bit of hot air tbh. Got the town I people's radars anyway!

Limerick

Waterford

Kilkenny isn't one, other than historically.

Population of Tralee 23,693

If it's based on population, Drogheda and Dundalk would be the most obvious places.

Swords Co. Dublin and Ballncollig Co. Cork would also be way up the list of places.

Tallaght would be WAY up that list, although at this stage it's basically a part of Dublin City anyway.
