    Rotterdam 6 Weeks

    Monday 29th February: 4.1 miles @ 10:44 avg hr 122

Not exactly the weather for outdoor pursuits  however…. I absolutely loved this run (sorry Martyboy…). I hadn’t been looking forward to leaving my warm office but once I got out it wasn’t so bad :D Took a different route than normal in an effort to get in a hill or two as apparently, Rotterdam is not flat….. Ended up going through the picturesque Ballybough, up by the home of the Dublin GAA oops, freudian slip.. and up to Drumcondra. The watch was tucked well under my sleeve but when I glanced at it a couple of times I was going to fast. Concentrated on keeping the shoulders down and the body relaxed, 5 days to Kinvara.

I suppose I have to take some responsibility for putting the fear of God into everyone! My opinion is that it's best to be prepared for what you're going to encounter. If I told you it was dead flat and then you saw the bridge rising up in front of you after 2k, you might either have a heart attack or worse still make it to the finish and strangle me. The only problem with the hills in Rotterdam is mental - if you made the roads as narrow as Trim, and planted a few trees and hedges, you'd hardly notice the bridge. It really is a very gentle gradient. Because your eyes see it so long in advance, your brain might be tempted to convince your legs that it's a big deal - I promise you it isn't, and the gentle downhill afterwards is lovely.

That would never happen :P It's o.k. I've come to terms with it, promise :D but its no harm to include a few long drags in the training from here to there, it'll only make me stronger, right?

Marty, when I was a younger man I would have been a regular diner at that fine establishment. With age, however, has come fancy notions and sadly I have yet to experience the undoubted pleasure of the big bang burger.

Sure give it a go and report back. What have you got to lose?

"What have you got to lose?"

Your stomach lining from what I've heard :)

    Tuesday 1st March: 4.11 miles @ 10:29 avg HR 134

March? I’m sorry but was it not November just yesterday??

Anyway, beautiful day ‘n all that but very windy, another trip up to Fairview/Drumcondra and back down, ended up running up the cobbles on Moore Street, I’m a lover of History so the idea that almost 100 years ago people were fighting on these very streets for our freedom sends chills down my back. The run was tougher than yesterday and have a couple of niggles to work on later with the foam roller. RHR was 4 beats higher this morning that it has been & also higher on the run, although I see AMK had a similar issue and is putting it down to the wind, which was indeed very strong.

JP’s like, “Yeah, we’re both doing the Malin to Mizen Man of Steel Challenge. It’s one of these Ultra, Ultra, Ultra, Ultra, Ultra, Ultra Ironman events. You run from Donegal to Cork with a bicycle on your back, then you cut your own Achilles tendons and you cycle from Cork to Donegal, then you break both your tibia with a rock and you swim from Donegal to Cork again.”

    Wednesday 2nd March 8.3 miles @ 10:29 avg HR 128

So someone forgot to tell mother nature its spring  woke up to the sound of howling gales and heavy rain. Got up & brought the dog out as usual, it was so bad (6.30am) about half way he stopped and literally dug his paws in with a look that said 'take me home, NOW'! We turned to go back and were blown nearly sideways. I considered not running in this morning, briefly... Drove to Clonsilla station & brought my coat, plan was to see what it was like by the time I got there (7:05) and then decide as the phone was saying the sun would be out at 8am. The worst seem to be over so threw on the back pack and headed off. Started snowing about half a mile in which was really lovely actually. Turned into an absolutely beautiful morning which helped take my mind of every ache & pain and of course I'm coming down with some sort of deadly disease - it must be race week

No MP miles this morning so got a few pics, which I thew up on strava

Not sure if I should post this given your lachrymose* tendencies - it's slightly appropriate for your upcoming adventures.

    Nice morning for pics.....

    * I'll admit it, I had to look that up:)

Aero has been trying to improve my taste in music. I'm not sure I've taken any all of his suggestions on board - I have however sorted the playlist for the car journey on Saturday.... a bit of this

    some of this this

and this one that I know tang will especially enjoy :D

That's a bit harsh, B. If you offered FD a lift you already knew you would have to listen to her so earplugs would be just plain rude....what happened to the Gentleman we all expect you to be;)

    Dance music? 70's FTW.

Don't know about improving your taste - more of an attempt at diversification.

We'll just have to educate you so!

I have 5 older siblings, and my Da had a very varied taste, so most of my favourite music is either from before I was born, or to young to remember.

FD, will you go nuts if I link to Hoagy Carmichael??

I know you have West of Ireland connections aero so you may have heard of John Beag O Flatharta and Na hAncairí? That's all I got to listen to in the car when I travelled with my Father. He said 'When you get your own car you can listen to what you want on the radio".
