I'll be down to that place with a set of screw drivers, imagine that in the house!

Having trouble playing my NTSCJ pc engine with RGB mod on my portable PAL CRT, I have no remote for it but usually the scart kicks it into AV, Ive not tried this on a CRT before, is there any trouble with NTSC and PAL TVs?

I'd say the RGB mod is not wired to switch the TV to AV mode, you need to put 12V on Pin 8 of the SCART input to automatically have to TV switch to 4:3 AV.

You'll the remote or hack up a SCART extension cable and slip the 12V in that way.

Where will i get a 12v to connect to the scart?

You might get away with connecting pin 16 and 8 in the SCART socket, pin 16 should be getting 5V from the console and if the TV in not widescreen then the 5V should trigger AV mode.

Anyone know the best place to get a PS4 controller?

I see some on play asia but what version do i select? Japanes, Asia, EU ?

The EU one is €89 http://www.play-asia.com/dual-shock-4-black/13/7062nv

Where as the Asian ones are ~€50 http://www.play-asia.com/dual-shock-4-black/13/7077ld

Does it matter or is there a difference connecting to an EU console? Different Bluetooth standards etc?

Aren't they just €60 in the shops?

They're £42 on Amazon.co.uk and the sterling is pretty weak at the moment so comes out at about €53.

That's incredible, they should publish the building instructions!

They'd have included the Feisar and Icarus teams but the former is too far behind and the latter is too far ahead!

So, new NX info has surfaced, not retro but there's enough Nintendo fans here to make it relevant.

Hard to know what is believable really , I'm staying clear of that.
If in doubt and all that..

They really are making a complete and utter bollox out of that project. Just stick a bloody ARM/Linux board in there and go the (licensed) emulation route for the old stuff, new games can be developed using whatever devkit is available for ARM/Linux and be done with it.

Games can still be released on carts if they like. They are most likely going to using flash memory anyway as its dirt cheap so adding a programming interface for DLC/patches is possible if they put a little bit of though into it, add encryption if piracy scares them..

I only read there the Retron 5 does IPS patching, how well does it work? Be nice to buy some of the Jap RPG's & let the Retron apply patches on the fly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,729 ✭✭✭The Last Bandit

Retron 5 does in-memory patching I guess, as all the cart ROMS are first dumped to memory.

Rewriting a flash based cart doesn't have to be that complicated either. USB interface on the console and a PC application could be used to update the cart if they want to keep the console offline.

Hmm, so a Retron 5 with a collection of Jap RPG carts....or the real console with an everdrive.... I'd probably still lean towards an everdrive, because Jap carts are great once they're playable, but an RPG or something is very different.

I think it's too far gone to ever be salvageable, I never liked it to begin with, there was never a clear customer base that it was aimed at. It smacked of let's cash in on the retro revival from the word go.

Hmm, I know a guy with a Retron5... more a miracle that he hasn't sold it yet....
