Sorry, but that's an ugly jersey. What a shame also that the fad of not having the blue hoop all round continues.

In fairness, the hoop all round used to make reading the numbers very difficulty.

I see Cathal McInerney is leaving football panel for hurlers. Will be big loss to footballers even though injured for most of last year. Any word on new players on football panel? Mick Bohan will big addition as coach. He was involved with Jim Gavin backroom for Dublin at senior and u21 and also involved with DCU

to be fair to macca he was putting in some serious performances for cratloe in the hurling it would be foolish for both him and the clare management to ignore a return

after padi kissanes departure as coach the footballers went backwards a bit , the coaching side of things dropped , several players constantly injured garry brennan and shane mcgrath both were carrying hevy injuries going into the league game against limerick and never recovered fully over the rest of the year
the condition the clare team were in two years ago against kerry was impressive even pat spalline commented on it several times over the championship saying it was the only time kerry were tested before the mayo semi final

the condition going into the longford game seemed disjointed half the team were carrying knocks and at times struggled to put two pass's together even in the league wins against wexford and sligo we handed a number of goal chances to both teams dispite the big wins

half the squad was injured for the cork game so it was inevitable eliphe fitz parted company , i know certain cork poster on here was a massive fan , but he never replaced kissane , i have heard great things about bohan , lets hope he can do for clare football what his uncle did for clare hurling :)

Will the game tomorrow definitely go ahead given the weather conditions?

yeah good start to 2016 for both sides but a bit of fortune was needed in both miltown and the bridge this evening

the footballers had an experimental side out against tipp with the likes of gary brennan david tubridy starting from the bench with 4 debutantes starting with a further 3 coming off the bench , one of them was keiran malone who scored the winner in injury time clare were 1-06 to 0-02 behind just before half time

the hurlers also needed a late shane o'donnell goal to see off cork today good to see david fitzgerld from inagh and eoin o'brien from newmarket get there chance today another interesting prospect coming off the bench was mikey o'malley from kilmaley who got on the score sheet late on he is one player who has ton's to offer the side , expect to see more of him through out the league

    scorers

    tony kelly 0-7
    john conlon 0-2
    bobby duggen 0-2
    peter duggen 0-1
    mikey o'malley 0-1
    gudgie o'connell 0-1
    shane o'donnell 1-0

hickey has had some career wining two munster clubs and an all ireland club final appearance and still not 30 , shane brennan has made a serious contribution to clare football in the last 5 or 6 seasons neither if they do decide not to rejoin the panel owe anything to football here

many of the u21 panel have yet to join the setup yet the un21s were in loughgeorge tonight where they drew with galway in the peter mcnulty cup, they play carlow at cooraclare at the weekend

    2016 mcnulty cup

    galway 1-11 -1-11 clare @ loughgeorge
    clare v carlow @ cooraclare 9/1/16
    kildare v clare @ hawkfield 16/1/16

    clare 0-12 0-9 kerry

rare win in killarney against a makeshift kerry side , they now qualify for the final of the mcgrath cup in two weeks time , and puts the footballers in good shape for the first game of the league against sligo at the end of the month

credit also must be giving to all involved today after a series of bad results in the club championship before Christmas this result can now restore some small pride in football here regardless of how makeshift the opposition

    clare 0-12 0-9 kerry

rare win in killarney ............................this result can now restore some small pride in football here regardless of how makeshift the opposition

We retired Paul Galvin in fron of his home crowd.......a pity we did not do the same to Jack O'Shea in '92....considering some of his supporters said "Ye have ye'er day out".... but then we had another day out....:D

after a facile 2-27 to 0-08 mid week win over kerry at the bridge clare take on waterford away today in the munster hurling league, where a win will book a spot in the final in two weeks time

    the team as follows

i would'nt be getting too excited it was against kerry's 3rd team pretty much , and while clare were nowhere near full strength either it is only a micky mouse competition compared to league and championship

full time in the munster league clare 1-20 - 1-09 waterford

another one sided game against a waterford development side david reidy with the goal in the first half colin ryan and john conlon the main scorers , limerick next sunday in kilmallock and then the final the week after , training camp seems to be in better shape then this time last year , yesterday clare played limerick champions N.A.P in a challenge with the limerick side wining by a point 1-27 to 3-21

Apologies for error (in the "a pity" bit) .....because we actually retired Jack O'Shea after the Munster final in '92

And it was an injustice to O'Shea that he finished that way. I was at that game. I remember O'Shea doing his all to drag Kerry into the game. I think I recall him wizzing one ball just over the cross bar and thinking if it had gone in it would have changed the game.
Still Tom Morrissey was a joy to watch that day!

thats how i remember it , it was late in the game and as you say he was the only one really trying , i was very young at the time and could'nt understand what all the fuss was about ........i do now ... would have liked to have been 7 or 8years older to enjoy it but i guess the hurlers made up for it late on in the decade

jack deserved a better exit , but tom is the real bitter sweet side to the story , such a shame he didnt go on to become the footballer he could have been , he left for america shortly afterwards , a few doonbeg lads picked up long term suspensions and the whole thing quickly evaporated

I was at all the Clare Football matches that year and thinking that while Maughan had them in great shape, Particularly after watching Tipp and Limerick that we were as good as them but not good enough to beat Kerry.
I remember Joe Reddinton rampaging up the field for Limerick against Kerry and thinking there was a softness in Kerry up the middle but not thinking Clare could do better. They did, even if Kerry were a pale shadow of themselves; that wasn't Clares fault, especially as they had ran kerry close the year before in Ennis before fading at the end.
That Munster final was as enjoyable in hindsight as 95, but 95 saw the end to the torment of being second fiddle. That was different feeling.

Pat Donnellan injured his cruciate ?

Big blow if true , though maybe not as big a loss as would have been a few years ago

I wasn't at the match and didn't hear anything about the performance, but on looking at the above having 5 different scorers is a very good start, we've reliant 1 or 2 scorers for years so seeing people chipping in is a good change.

a 10 minuet spell at the end of the first half where everything cork turned gold they out scored us 1-06 to 0-1 , at the start of the second half eoin cleary had two great goal chances to bring it back to a level game , over all a good work out gary brenan shane mcgrath david tubridy first starts of the season ,alot of good young players puting there hands up too , only worry for the league is if one of the key players get injured we will have to dip into the u21 panel , keelan sexton , sean o'donaghue and pierce lillis are all talented footballers but all just out of the minor grade ex u21 hurlers alan o'neill and damien burke will be huge additions to the panel when fully fit too

The Clare team to play Limerick in the Munster Senior League Final in the Gaelic Grounds tonight at 19:30 is:
    1. Andrew Fahey
    2. Eoin O'Brien
    3. Patrick O'Connor
    4. Paul Flanagan
    5. Cian Dillon
    6. David McInerney
    7. Conor Cleary
    8. Gearoid O'Connell
    9. David Reidy
    10. Peter Duggan
    11. Colin Ryan
    12 David Fitzgearld
    13. John Conlon
    14. Darach Honan
    15. Bobby Duggan

i imagine tonight will be the first real test , davy not giving too much of his hand away though with a crucial meeting in 3 weeks time in the league looming

sad to hear of pat donnellons injury , a great servent down the years in the very bad times as well as the very good , it would be hard to ask the guy to comback at this stage in his career but i have no doubt he will still have a role to play within the panel in future
