Fairly tempted in going to look at this MK7 GTI:

Only thing worrying me is it appears to be for sale a long time - since the end of August. The youtube videos upload date also matches up to the date on the mileage pic

I just specced a new one with a sunroof. Standard kit on them now is better, and with 18" wheels as mentioned. I know the 2nd hand one has the larger screen/nav system. But the new one has a better standard system (MIB2) now so comparable.

Retail €38.5K, so I would expect €36k without too much trouble for a brand new one. "Only" a 7k difference. If you are financing, the % will be lower too on a new one.

Something to think about, should help bring the price down on the 2nd hand one if anything.

Ah so the drivers side door seal is fcuked, letting in abit of water. It really is my worst motoring nightmare..

I thought the smallest wheels that came on the Mk7 GTI were the 18"? I'd really be looking for a Performance Pack version if I was in the market for a 7 as well.

Yeah, the wheels are perhaps the only downside. Was looking in the sub 30k bracket, and there aren't a whole lot of MK7's which fall under it yet.

This one in Tipp looks a good option, leather, and nicer alloys, same mileage as one above too.

This red one is nice, but 80k km seems to be high-ish for a car like this in a short space of time, might cost a lot of money down the line

Managed to colour sand out most of the car park scratches my car had from the incident and filled and repainted the chips(looked a lot worse until I actually started the job), ordered a DA polisher go go over the area I sanded and have also ordered some black plastidip to remove the chrome around my windows.

That looks more like a rotary polisher than a DA to me

Is that on a classic policy?

Classic policy. I was still shocked though... Thankfully fully comp was another €100 but didn't stretch to that as the car isn't ready as such. Still needs a few bits here and there for regular irregular use

Allowed 5k miles per year. But that would be a fortune to do @ 15mpg on average :D

Yeah you are right, it is, a 6 speed. I heard it is easier to mess up with this than a DA, but I will only use it on small jobs.

Haynes manuals are actually quite interesting. The introductory pages for each section are really interesting and give some detail into what features the manufacturers used for the engine, transmission etc.

They were great when there was no alternative. And they are still worth having, but online enthusiast forums beat them everytime. You are nearly better off having a relatively uncommon car with a cult following in the UK than a common car with no real passionate following.
Or a car that's popular in the states - they really go to town on the pictures and detail for DIY stuff.

Funnily enough, a forum member (not boards) suggested that I should get a Haynes manual.

Some of you may recall that I was told by the seller that he disconnected front fog lights for the NCT on the Escort. I found this quite weird and was a bit skeptical if that was all that's wrong. Just now I finally got under the car and found the wires were indeed disconnected on the passenger side. Plugged them back in, turned the fogs on and voila - it worked. Went over to the other side - same story, except that one didn't work. Hopefully it's just a bulb.

It was a bad morning for Peugeot 206's the weather wasn't great on my trip to cork but about 5km before coming into clonmel a 206 was in the ditch in sh!t after crashing early or maybe last night. Then a few km out of clonmel there was a different 206 even worse after being rolled a few times Garda were at the scene of that one but no driver in either car. So that's two 206's that will never see the road again.

Them seats are mank! The rest of it looks alright though.

Tartan seats are signature Golf GTi though. admittedly, they aren't the nicest tartan pattern i've ever seen, but if i was into VW's and buying a GTi, it's something that'd be on my list.

Goodness! Wouldn't mind that... Average mileage per week is 800 miles. On average...

Its not just the expense, but the time behind the wheel takes up a significant part of my week

Hi, just bought a Kuga, but am finding the headlights very bad. Very dull and a black line going across the middle. Anyone with same problem? Otherwise very pleased.

I've heard a lot of truck drivers use magnets to fool the tachographs, so they can drive longer periods than allowed.

I heard stories before about gum being used on the old tachos to interfere with the needle but I thought it'd be a bit more difficult to interfere with these days.

Have a look at the bulbs.

Also the plastic on the headlights may be scratched/hazed. Could be fixed with some wet sanding.

Black line? Are they cracked? A picture would help.
