I had a quick blast of Super Meat Boy, a game I got last Christmas! Fun game, and one more that's no longer languishing on the backlog. :D

    Wow Undertale is great

It really is, isn't it? I'm only a couple of hours in, but god damn if it isn't one of the most utterly charming games ever. The thing that made me fall in love with it was

Skyrim on my slightly updated PC.
Mod it until it breaks. Which it has. Many times.

    It's still glorious!

playing Red Faction Guerilla and Life is strange at the moment. Don't have alot of time for gaming but these two gems are keeping me entertained. RFG especially is a great FPS from a number of years ago that is just alot of fun. Life is strange has a great story.

Getting a good couple of hours at Witcher 2 now, it's actually been a lot more challenging than the first game. It was a bit frustrating at first, because the same old nuke stuff with Igni and just hack away kinda tactic certainly didn't translate over. Took me ages to finish that damned Endriga Contract, until I started preparing properly. Stuck on the Kayran now, so I think I might load up an earlier savefile and do a bit more preparation.

Kayran was tough. Switching between the trap and shield spell while the somewhat random tentacles didn't squash me. I finally managed to fluke that bit but had to watch a YouTube video to figure out the next part. Not intuitive at all.

Yeah, a friend warned me about it. I've not looked at any youtube tutorials, not yet at least, I want to see if I can power through it without any outside interference. But it is damn frustrating so far!

Into Dying Light at the moment, playing it on hard with tips turned off. It's proving to be a stubborn mule!

Been dipping in and out of several games recently.
Picked up Insurgency and Call of Duty WaW in the sales and they've been fun for a few games here and there.
Also playing a little bit of The Long Dark. Has good potential.
Gonna get into Portal 1 and 2 soon. Haven't played either in years! Should be fun

Gave CSGO a go last night after having been away since early Source. Not nearly as traumatic as I thought it would be. It would seem that five years off does not undo five years of practice.

played rainbow six siege a bit, and christ am i bad at it :/ the single player stuff is fine because it's forgiving but the multiplayer is cruel - also, i have probably been away from the likes of COD for so long that it was a bit of a shock to see how people talk to each other in random groups.. the smack talk was woeful

Aside from that, the usual COH2 co-op versus AI matches, a bit of diablo3 and convoy

convoy isnt bad, but it is very easy to walk away from

I'm the same, I'm brutal at it, probably cause the only FPS I've played in the last 2 years were Borderlands 2 and TTT in GMod :D seriously fun game nonetheless that is crippled with connection issues

Hah, yeah. This is why I rarely play multiplayer games, and if I do, it's usually something co-op.

I ended up picking up Endless Legend at some point during the sales.

Life's too short for Civ 5 to be the only 4X game you ever play.

It's interesting to see some of the relatively subtle differences that I really like, but also how much less I like it as a game on the whole despite those, although I don't want to be too critical because it's entirely possible I've overplayed Civ5 to the point where I don't like the genre anymore in general.

I love the increased granularity of resources - there's much more flexibility in how you manage your cities. The economy buildings give you huge bonuses that vary wildly depending on your terrain.

There's more balance in starting places with even "useless" tiles giving some yields.

Some of the cool faction-specific traits really change how you play the game.

I really hated 1 UPT from Civ5 - possibly the games primary fundamental weakness - so EL's take was a much better compromise IMO.

I liked the levelling system as well, but haven't quite got to grips with the inventory system yet.
    And there's the

    Butttt.. there's something missing.
Not only are there too few factions, but there are particularly too few "standard" factions for my liking - as far as I can tell, only the Vaulters and Elf-guys (whatever they're called) use the "normal" game mechanics.
There certainly aren't enough standard units. I know that it pushes you towards assimilated units from other factions, but it's not a good enough solution to the problem IMO.

Because of the large quantities of resources availble, the game has a pretty steep learning curve in some respects - not getting the basics, but learning how to play the AI in the same way.
I'm finding it a lot easier to fall miles behind in this, or generally cock things up beyond repair, than I would in Civ 5.

I keep wanting to go back to it, but I'm tending to quit games after about 100 turns.

Its the perfect length for a game imo. I finished it in three sittings.

I think I've been taking a bit of a relaxed pace with it, over 6 hours in and I'm at the end of the Core level

I finished Wolfenstein: The New Order over the Xmas/New Year, so I'm working on the Old Blood now. I also got Broforce, which is great fun, and I'm on the last story mission there. Only about 5-6 hours, but it was very fun.

Oh yeah, I also fired up Tales From The Borderlands earlier. First from the Telltale Bundle I got during the summer, so hurrah for one less on the backlog. :D

I'm playing The Experiment lately. Intriguing concept but can be extremely frustrating.

I had the disc version a few years ago and lost it, steam have it listed under it's alternate name (Experience 112) and I picked it up in the sale.

So unfortunately I had to look up how to defeat that god damn Kayran in The Witcher 2, what an utterly horrible, irritating encounter. I must've died 30 or 40 times, sometimes I didn't even know what killed me. I am glad that is over and done with and I hope there's no other bosses like that in the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,768 ✭✭✭✭degrassinoel

COH2 - completed the standard Russian campaign on hard.
Dragon Age: Inquisition - started a new campaign as a sword and board toon, annoying bugs are still in the game more than a year after release :/ but it is a nice looking game with lots to do.

Should tide me over til XCOM2 :)

Thankfully not from what I can remember!

It's a well known pain in the ass. Took me bloody ages to kill it, even having done everything up to that point. You won't come across anything like it again though, so it should be smooth sailing from here.
