Just noticed there is also a 12C temperature gradient across the country now, warmest in the south-west and coldest in the northwest and north.

nice range in temperatures across the country at the moment from 2 degrees here in Castlebar to 13 degrees in Valentia. a dark wet day, perfect for the family round, big fire on and home alone on the tv.....

Can someone tell me the rain forecast for Galway for the next couple of days?

Flood water is making its way up my driveway towards the house, if it continues to rise at this current rate there is the potential of the house being flooded in the coming days.

Galway should be fairly dry tomorrow, more rain sunday but looking fairly light at this stage

Looking very wet tomorrow again. Mainly over the south and east. GFS shows persistent rain from about 6am to 6pm.

That line of Rain from north clare to north meath seems to be there since the start of November, driveway flooded for the 2nd time today.

On Wednesday, I'm expecting plenty of rainfall compare it with 2009:

Wednesday, Dec 30th 2009: 41.5mm
Wednesday, Dec 30th 2015: 20-40mm expected

Had near constant snow until 5pm, only settling further up the mountain, max temp of 2.2C today, a day for feet up by the stove, happy xmas folks.

Heavy rain .. been up since 4 am and it has not faltered. Thankful this house is atop high ground and feeling for all not so lucky. No end in sight they say.

No longer in the FI range, GFS is now in general agreement with the other models on the track on Tuesdays low, keeping the strongest winds offshore rather that directly over the country as it was shown previously. 06Z GFS has 130 km/h gusts brushing the west coast.

The GFS also continues to show another low following on the next day, with this again taking a similar track and gusts in the 130-140 km/h range on the west/northwest coasts.

Looking less severe for most of the country if these tracks are correct compared to some of the charts shown recently in the FI thread. Though these would still be fairly windy episodes with possible red warnings for coastal areas.

Still not 100% nailed of course.

just noticing on the met eireann radear that the rainfall seems to be intensifying as it approaches the Wicklow mountains from a south westerly direction. the rainfall around Nass, Newbridge Blessington then on into south Dublin yesterday and today has been extremely heavy. It seems to be the same wind direction that then gets to Cumbria and does the same thing there.

Looks like the Shannon basin dodged a bullet, had that lot landed north of Athlone we would probably have seen flood defences fail.

According to MTthe big storms won't hit us afterall which is a relief. 130km per hour gusts on extreme western coasts occurs a number of times per winter so shouldn't bring anything more than typical stormy episodes. It's when these gusts strike overland that problems arise. Indeed if the rain holds off on Tuesday or Wednesday, we may even attempt to get the new garage extension 's roof opened and repaired.

The cold is coming here early next week, may even be severe cold towards the end of this week.

I think we still have a big problems in Athlone, ESB increasing outflow from Parteen Weir again. Water level below town bridge is now higher than the 20th of Dec.

Yeah it looks like eastern or southeastern Europe could be seeing a cold plunge in the days ahead. Whether it will ever manage to make its way this far west remains to be seen though.

As it comes into a somewhat reliable timeframe it would seem that the upcoming storm/s are tracking further away compared to a couple of days ago according to the charts. It mostly happens that these storms are hyped up and upgraded as it nears these shores and then get downgraded at the last minute or they are not as powerful as was predicted. I just hope it doesn't go the other way with this storm and it starts to track nearer to Ireland as it nears because some of the setups that the charts where showing are scary especially after all the rain we are after having the last few weeks...the next couple of days will be really interesting and am so glad we have some very bright people on here who can track and post updates as it nears.

There's record snow in parts of Iceland apparently
Meanwhile in Arklow, they may as well turn on the street lighting and its only 2pm,very dark and pouring down

Yes, but it could have been a lot worse, still bad though and we've got a long way to go.
The land around here (just west of the town) is completely saturated.

Winds beginning Sun evening and probably leading to the first Orange warning early Mon morning, then it's sit up and take notice time of how strong the winds are going to be Tues and Weds, these early charts certainly looking interesting, still a few days for changes and downgrades of course....
