Sorry I didn't get to meet you today. Congrats on the PB, definitely sub 25 sooner rather than later. Probably would've happened today only for the wind.

Great job! Shame about those pesky 3 seconds. Everything's still going the right direction though, even with the reduced mileage lately.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,006 ✭✭✭✭The Muppet

Thanks max. Tbh I still think i ve lost a little conditioning with the reduced milage . I've put on a a coule of pounds too because of it. Well it's either that or my mince pie addiction.

I'll find those 3 seconds somewhere soon.

How's it going with yourself are the niggles at bay.

Yeah things are looking up, I'm cautiously optimistic. Going to keep taking it easy until January and I'll either be back to full health or heading to a physio once the December madness is over. I'm in the same boat as yourself though, I've definitely put on a pound or two and my mileage has reduced since Jingle Bells, but it's nothing that can't be put right in the new year!

    Sounds like a plan.

I'm off for two weeks over the christmas so I hope to get out for some longer slow runs. I haven't ran more than 4 miles in a single run in three weeks . I'm still very apprehensive about running longer distances. Like you I will see where i am in january, I still intend to go to physio too .

Another step forward today with a 5 mile progression run , started off nice an easy @11 min pace and worked up to 9.30 pace for the last two miles. No problems to report.

I plan to get out tomorrow for a few miles again.

Watch malfunctioned again and wouldnt sync via smart phone had to connect it via the charging cable and pc.

Interesting 3.5 mile tonight. Was out to dinner this evening with the whole family and had a drink or two.

It was after 8 before I got out . The legs felt dead so I kept it nice and easy at just under 11 minute pace .

Happy Xmas to all I hope Santa is good to you all.

Some parkrun tourism this morning to attempt run off some of the excesses of yesterdayso I headed out to Donabate . I didn't get there until 9 20 so it was straight into the run. No warm up.

I wasn't racing it anyway . It was just a tempo session . It's a nice flat course mostly tarmac and little on gravel and it's really nice surroundings through the woods .

A nice start to St Stephens day . That's 4 days in a row I've ran now and the knee is holding out. Rest day tomorrowand then I hope start increasing my lsr this week.

Time was somewhere around 26 mins for the run I will post official time when I get it.

    Official Time 26:00

Delighted to have ran for over an hour with no issues.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,006 ✭✭✭✭The Muppet

Thanks tailgunner I am delighted to be making progress but trying not to do too much too soon . If I can get back to between 20 and 30 miles a week injury free ill be delighted . How's it going with youself ?

Off all this week so it was up and straight out of a run this morning. Don't think I was fully awake when I set out . I was very lethargic for the first mike 11.30 pace the following three were 10:15 pace.

Nice enjoyable 4:14 miles easy .

Just in from my last run of 2015, 4 miles easy at 10.38 pace . its a cool night but nice for running.

Just over 850 mile s for me for the year 750 of them in the last 8 months so that was a big step up from last years 560 miles. I got some official timed runs this year My 5k pb is now 25:02 this time last year my 5k time was just over 29 minutes. Really happy with the progress I made during the year.

A major plus for me from my running is keeping my weigh under control . I am at the lightest i've been since i was 18 having lost over two stone since april , I've lost over 5 stone since i started running three years ago. though this last week i think I've gained a few pounds again though I'll shift them again soon.

On the down side I did suffer a knee injury in november which resulted in a reduction in miles but it seems ot be behaving itself now.

Next year I hope to do do more races , get official times for 10 k and the half and injury permitting I still hope to run dcm 2016.

That's it for 2015 I wish you all a happy and healthy 2016 and to thank those of you you have given advice and constructive criticism and words of encouragement since i started posting here, it all helps keep me at it.

Having a short break in Arklow to finish off the holidays . Headed out this evening for a trot around to get my bearings. Enjoyed it apart from tripping over a step in the middle of a footpath and ending up in a heap , the joys of running in the dark. No major damage done just grazed knees . Had a decent run despite the fall.
The hotel has a full gym I might give the dread mill a go tomorrow though I'm not a fan of them really, I'd much prefer run outdoors.
    First run of 2016

    4.2 miles @10.20 pace .

3.2 miles easy @10.16 pace along the seafront in Arklow in the daylight.

Felling a little stiff after yesterday's escapade but felt fine when I got going. Got a new notched foam roller in aldi today and had a good post run roll. Also got a set of their bluetooth headphones which I found to be decent quality.

Home tomorrow and I think I'm going to try finish the plan I was on before my injury . There's only 3 weeks of it left . Fingers crossed .

Hill sprint session this evening . 1 mile warm up 8 x 10 second hill repeats with jog back recovery and 1 mile cool down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,006 ✭✭✭✭The Muppet

55 minute easy this evening @11 min Pace. took it really easy as I hope to do a longer run tomorrow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,006 ✭✭✭✭The Muppet

4.5 miles easy today @11.00 minute pace

First run since Tuesday decorating duties have taken all my spare time since then . Legs felt dead today . Don't know if thats the effect of the step ladder or lack of running.

The longer runs are back on the long finger for now ' more decorating duties in the week ahead will probably mean shorter runs only.

Got out again this afternoon with the intention of doing a longer run than I have of late.

I ran 8.7 MILES @10:30 pace , the longest run I've done in nearly two months. My legs felt stiff nearing the end but not tired, I could have easily run further which was a strange feeling. Absolutely no pain during the run which is good.

On the pain issue I've noticed recently that my knee didn't feel quite right , not painful but not right, on runs while I have been wearing my new balance shoes which have over 700 miles on them. I wore new Nikes today and as i said all was well. It's just a though that my knee issue could possibly have been caused by the footwear.

I',m delighted to have a longish run under my belt with no issues. Its something to build on in the weeks ahead.

    Splits

    I mile warm up @10:52
    2@9.20
    3@8:43
    4@9:02

4 miles this evening with mile 2 and half mile 3 constant uphill in. Didn't start the watch but pace on the fast side of easy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,006 ✭✭✭✭The Muppet

4.24 miles tonight ar 10.30 pace. I didn't feel like going out tonight but enjoyed it once I got going.

I think its time to start looking for a new plan but I'm not sure where I want to go with it.

woke at 6 this morning and decided to get my run in early, I was on the road by 6.40. No ice this morning but It was still pretty chilly, until i warmed up then it was ideal running weather. The battery died on my bluetooth headphones 2 miles in so no music from there on , It was really nice listening to the birds singing as the sun rose when i was plodding along nicely.

aerobically I felt really good for the whole run, coming near the end i was felling it in my legs an indication to me I have lost some condition . No pain in my knee again today, I'm delighted about that. I did another myrtl and form roller session when I got in and the legs felt fine after that.

All was good on the run so now its time to put my recent woes out of my head and start working on regaining whatever condition I have lost over the christmas .

10.57 miles @10:55 pace Avg hr 134, Splits were very consistant.

Lots of good plans out there, so it might be useful to have a think about what it is you want to achieve next. Go longer ? Faster ? Try something new (like trail running for example)? Have you considered joining a club at all ?
