Lots of good plans out there, so it might be useful to have a think about what it is you want to achieve next. Go longer ? Faster ? Try something new (like trail running for example)? Have you considered joining a club at all ?

hi Bg Thanks for the advice, I have though about joining a club but I couldn't commit to a set time to train due to work and I could be anywhere any given evening.

Im not sure where i want to go from here tbh. I had set my goal as dcm 2016 but my recent woes have me doubting my ability to get through that injury free. I think Ill do some mid distance plan and a few races see how that goes , if it went well it might give me the confidence for dcm..

I know you've had injury problems recently, but you also have a solid base built up over the last year by the sounds of it, and in my non-expert opinion, that'll stand to you for marathon training if that's what you want to do!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,006 ✭✭✭✭The Muppet

ThanksTailgunner, I do have a decent base built up , I'll just see how things go for the next few months and see where I am in june regarding training for dcm.

Rest day for me today, I picked up a pair of Brooks pure cadence shoes yesterday , to replace my new balance, They are a minimal shoe but I've done all my recent runs in nike free runs with no issue so fingers crossed. I'm not sure how they'll work on the longer runs, I can really feel the leg muscles once I get over 8 miles in the nikes , I assume these will be the same.

You just reminded me that I ordered another pair of runners on Thursday and now I'm super excited that they might have arrived when I get home. :D Totally forgot!

    Easy 5.1 miles tonight @ 10.30 pace.

Beginning to feel i'm getting back on track . My plan is to get back over 30 miles next week and to start a new plan in February. I've put it here so it has to happen.

The few pounds gained over Xmas is just about gone too.

Another 5 miles today added added some pace into this run kedping it at 9.30 pace after my warm up .

It's was nice and mild if a little windy . Enjoyed the run . I don't know if it's the new shoes or what but Im really feeling the recent runs in my legs . I cetainly know I'm giving them a good workout which is great .

Today was lsr day and I wanted to build on last weeks 10.7 miles. Still feeling tired though so I set out on a route that would allow me to shorten the run if I had to.

I was running on tired legs and really had to dig in for the last 2 miles but I got there.

    11.5 miles @10:58 pace

    4.23 miles today in 42:36 @10:12 pace.

really enjoyed this run as I wasn't felling the best all day {think i might be coming down with something) and was contemplating giving it a miss this evening but decide to go out for a recovery run . I took the warm up really easy and started to feel good so upped the pace a little.

Ah ya can't beat the north county dublin air.

Flying it slowly. This was my best run in quite a while . Finding the Myrtl great thanks for the heads up on that. I still have not got around to the ais but I did get a rope so it's going to happen.

Your doing some mighty impressive running yourself . An inspiration to all here .

Delighted to hear it on the exercises. T'will stand to you! Gently does it with the rope starting out and don't force any of the movements. You can go a little bit further for each subsequent movement but only if it feels right. Once you get the hang of it you will love it. I think it's great for anyone, even non runners, to assist flexibility.

As for the inspiration thing, careful now or you'll get us both in trouble :D

Will do. I notice the difference the myrtl has made, those donkey kicks are cool.

My Log , I'll say it as it is :), anyway I don't believe anyone would or could call your endeavours anything but inspirational. That's not belittling anything anyone else is doing, there are quite a few runners logging here that are inspirational in different ways.

5.06 miles easy this evening at 10:38 pace Avg hr 142

Hr is a little higher than usual for easy runs. Nothing else to report except it is a cool evening.

No running the last few days as the bug I felt coming on has bitten. Annoying really but cest la vie.

I have decided to try this year's dcm graduate plan when I get back to it and I plan to do it by heart rate . I know it's geared towards marathon runners but I'm hoping I have the base to do it.

I had intended starting today but that looks unlikely now as I'm still a little under the weather. I'll see how I feel as the day progresses.

Tge best of luck to everyone in Raheny today . It's going to be tough going our there today .

The plan looks vaired and interesting and I like the idea of it including parkruns etc . Its a 5 day week too which gives 2 rest days which suits at the moment

Still off the road with a cold and sore throat .I.'m starting to feel a little better so hope to be back at it soon .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,006 ✭✭✭✭The Muppet

Back at it tonight with 45 minutes easy . Ive had a stinker of a cold got tge last two weeks . Still bunged up a little but felling well enough to run so I did.

Heartrate was 142 which I think is a little high for the effort . A sign that I'm still not 100% . I intend to eas back into it this week and start the new plan this day week .

It's a cold night out there and the driving rain doesn't help still if felt great to be back at it.

Easy 5.2 miles tonight at 10:25 pace.

It's all a lille hit and miss with my running lately between sickness , being busy with other things and I have to admit the cold damp evenings are playing their part too.

Have to get my ass in gear and get back on track.
I need to get back on a plan .
    Enjoyed tonights run.

I started the 2015 dcm graduates plan last night with 45 minutes easy.

Tonight was 15 minute warm up 10 minute strides with recovery and 15 minute cool down. I really enjoyed the session my first tempo run in quite a while its all been easy running since before Xmas

Im delighted to be back on a plan .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,006 ✭✭✭✭The Muppet

45 minutes easy tonight 4 miles @ 11 minute mile.

Don't know what's up with me today . Heart rate was way too high all day and I was really feeling the cold.

Having just started the new plan ditching the run was not an option . I took it really handy and ran a loop of home that I could have cut short if I needed to but I got through the the 45 minutes.

Rest day tomorrow. Early night tonight and fingers crossed all is back to normal by Saturday.

The plan today said 45 minutes easy. I didnt look at the watch during the run and was surprised to see I ran @10.05 pace I though I was running slower than that.

Last day of week one tomorrow with 75 minutes easy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,006 ✭✭✭✭The Muppet

80 minutes easy early this morning though the wind made it far from easy in places.

Week one of the plan completed. Rest day tomorrow .

45 minutes easy this evening. nice run on a lovely evening feeling good .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,006 ✭✭✭✭The Muppet

30 minutes easy this evening with 6 x 100 meter strides.

Particularly enjoyed the strides . Blew a few cobwebs away and recovered quickly between them .

The plan today was for 45 minutes easy. Felt good once I convinced myself to get out and I had a good run at 10.11 pace .

Rest day tomorrow and a race on saturday which will have to be a parkrun . Looking forward to that though I fear I have lost some pace with the injury and illness sInce my last parkrun.
