So I developed my first roll of film at home last night.

All went well, except only about a dozen frames came out. As I was loading the film on to the reel a little bit of the temporary cover I had over the window peeled away, so I presume that was the cause. Time to invest in a changing bag, or a better way of covering the window.

Anyway, besides that I'm happy with the way everything went, and the negatives that did develop look to be ok to me.

I can see how this could be the start of a slippery slope!

You absolutely need a changing bag, or the inside of a closet that you've also taped up, at night, in a room with the curtains closed. I goof around with deving paper and slow ortho film in a room with the windows taped up, but most film is just too sensitive. Plus it's a PITA during the summer waiting until after 11 to do anything :-D

It was my surprise 40th on Saturday night (not my 40th till July, surprise worked very well) and just wanted to share the stunning Pentax cake. Almost looks too good to eat!

What's the deal with giving your camera (even a digital compact one) to family and results often coming out shaky? :o

Camera shake on their part. Think it was a combination of excitement, time pressure, pointing and clicking whilst being mindful there was a queue.

I do feel sorry for the guy but being a working professional without having insurance seems stupid and while backing up while travelling can be hard it really highlights the problem with having all of your files in one place.

completely agree with you, I would do it even if my source of income didn't depend on it! Madness

Does insurance cost as much as he suggests, at professional level?

The US National Archives has released photos taken by Dick Cheney's photographer on September 11th, 2001.

When did DSLRs first come on the scene, early 2000s?

I think there would have been some around but I dont think Canon released their first pro level DSLR until 2002 so probably still a lot of film being shot then.

I didn't get my first DLSR (canon 20D) until 2005

Have had the image below up for a few years now on Pix. I had found it on some Danish website a good while back and had meant to drop them an email asking them to remove it. Forgot all about it until this morning. Sent an email and got a reply back within an hour stating it had been removed and would be gone from the site by tomorrow. Apparently it was an upload from a user.

The site, the image was used on is a website for students. The page in particular is a description for an essay about unemployment and inflation.

So it's not unlikely that a student picked your picture for this task and used it without checking copyrights etc. Harmless use of your work.

Most amount of money I have ever spent on a single thing but picked up a never used return Canon 70-200 2.8 IS II in B&H in New York yesterday. Christmas came early.

I know I commented earlier this year about the price of film.. but this is crazy... KONO! Donau 6 ISO 35mm CN film 3-pack.

If I want ISO 6 film, I'm sure I have some well expired ISO 100 that's behaving as if it's 6 these days... :)

You're paying the Lomo hipster tax on that though, it's not representative :-) it's just repackaged dupe film as well, literally the thing you'd see on eBay for a few dollars for a 100' roll ... and still not buy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 304 ✭✭aidanic

    ... on eBay for ...

www.eba ... no stop. You're temping me now, and there's nearly a lifetime of film in the fridge, the other fridge* and the freezer already :)

Very OT - pulled a frozen pizza out of the freezer box in the kitchen last night - "what's that at the back? Kodak coloured box. ... 4 rolls of P3200!"

    *Known as the beer/film fridge.

it's not the sort of processing a camera would do that they're worried about i guess.

Canon is Suing Gray Market Camera Gear Dealers

    http://petapixel.com/2015/11/23/canon-is-suing-gray-market-camera-gear-dealers/

I know this is USA only right now but if they are successful I could see it spreading to Europe pretty soon.

Was sick of the strap that came with my camera (NIKON NIKON NIKON NIKON!), for a few reasons. Bought a lovely wrist strap last week and I love it so far. I don't think I'll ever *need* it, or at least I hope I don't, but it's reassuring in case I dropped the camera. The strap tightens easily if it's pulled (by a falling camera).

    Normal use:

    Butter fingers:

A little neater to briefly pop on the tripod also, if that's what you're into

Thankfully, they're available in colours other than green, but might be a handy stocking-filler for any photographer giftees this Christmas!

    Hej everyone,

    long time lurker here.

I started a photo blog a little while ago, nothing fancy (and yes, it's a tumblr) and half the time I don't even know what I am doing :), but still wanted to share it.

    Here goes:

I was recently given a gift of a nice Practika 35mm m42 mount camera, I've never used film and I want to give it a go now is there any kind of kit with all I'd need to get started or would be handiest/cheaper to just pick up stuff piece by piece? I'd be scanning developed slides, probably sticking to B&W film for now.

Was talking to a client, remoted onto his machine, and there's a picture of a chinook opened and being edited on his machine. That a remote controlled toy, I ask. Nope, he says, look closely and you can see the pilot waving. Just out his back garden.
