    Better hope it's dry!

I know this has probably been done before, but the lights on my car aren't the bestest in the world. In terms of brightness, I mean. Either that, or my sight just isn't what it used to be (and I doubt it's that).

My beams are alright. but I find my dipped bulbs, whilst useful, aren't particularly great at illuminating everything.

I know a lot of ye were banging on about those Osram (not sure if i spelt that right) Nightbreakers for a while (although last time I heard them mentioned, people here weren't so keen, so maybe they weren't as good as initially thought) but just wondering if anyone could advise:

    1) Will changing bulbs actually help (without blinding everyone else on the road - though i imagine this has more to do with bulb positioning than power?)
    2) If so, can you recommend a set of bulbs worth getting?
    3) How are they rated? Is it just like normal bulbs? (50 watt, 100 watt, with 100 being twice as bright, etc) (and if so, can I find out what i currently have by looking at the bulbs on the car at the moment).

I'll most likely use MicksGarage as I find Halfords are wildly expensive when it comes to bulbs, and my local motor factors don't seem to have anything other than a bunch of generic bulbs in stock (they can order things, but i'd be just as easy using Micks).

EDIT: all of halfords bulbs that look worthwhile are buy one get one free, which puts them in line with other prices, so if they've anything worth getting I'd go with them.

    Cheers :)

Osram nightbreaker are certainly better than standard bulbs don't buy them and expect them to be suddenly as good as the car having factory xenon lights but they are certainly a noticeable improvement and make night time driving easier I've used them for years they can be got cheap enough in twin packs on micksgarage. Life span of them is shorter but you should get a year out of them depending on the amount of driving you do obviously.

They are fully road legal 55w don't be tempted to buy 100w as they are brighter but illegal and dangerous only dodgy backstreet places would sell them anyway. So stick with the main brands and you'll be fine. I think the nightbreakers are definitely worth it for the sake of 25 quid.

Its a 2.8 from an e46, m50 and m52 are very alike so will fall in straight and then need a few niggles ironed out!
So it's up in capacity and turboed, cannot wait for the first trackday!

Jesus that will be some machine! Better being spare tyres to the track!
Is that the end of its life as a daily?

Sadly yes, but it will become something I've always wanted to do with it!
I'm not a massive fan of drifting, contrary to popular belief I love my racing lines and a good track attack.
The last Autoheroes was so wet it was pointless to do anything else :)

There's a lot to be said for a bit of sideways action though :D. Itll make a great track car anyway!
Have you started thinking about a new daily? Will it be something more conservative while you put money into the e36?

Yeah the e36 won't be sold so I'm going to go to town on it now!

Oh it's fun no doubt :)

At least you won't have to level the lane outside your house anymore, now you can drive over the bumps!
Look forward to seeing the build thread!

Already had two time wasters saying they'll come take the Punto away but have made no contact since. Someone else they can come get it tomorrow. Third time's the charm, eh?

See that's the kind of crap I'd hate selling privately. Gob****es that talk and talk and do nothing. Must be a pain.

Check the clear plastic on your headlamps hasn't faded. You can get them repolished or do a diy job yourself.

Ah no, the plastic is good as new. I'd be fairly clued into cleaning up that kinda thing (thankfully).

I hate all this crap. I've always been lucky enough and generally sold everything I had quickly to the first viewer both the Astra and golf were sold with a day. Focus took about a week still not bad. So I can't really complain but even though I haven't had any major hardship I hate selling cars. Some people get a great kick out of buying and selling to me it's a pure chore.

I never realised we were at the shortest day I'm terrible for dates like that such as shortest longest day of the year dates and when the clocks change I don't know any of them dates or even what month. People always just say it or its on the radio kind of sad that I never bothered to learn them all the same.

What have I been doing with my life :pac:

Have been debating lately if I should shift my petrol mondeo on or keep it and throw more money into it.

Every time I get something done on it another thing starts giving trouble. Gearbox has never felt right since I got the clutch and flywheel done recently, the rear shocks or spring are showing their age, takes forever to heat up when cold, dodgy thermostat I'm guessing and I reckon it needs a serious overhaul in general, brake and steering fluid, probably a coolant change to. I know for sure that it needs a new ball joint and rear drop link. I hate these situations.

Entire wiper blade came off the car at 120kph in the M4 this morning. Lashing rain at night. No way was I stopping on the hard shoulder in that weather. Risk of scraping the windscreen was worth it.

Carried on in the shoulder looking out the passenger side for 2km or so and got off at Enfield. Sitting waiting for the motor factors to open to buy a new one after maybe 2 months max is a great start to a Monday!

I planned to do an oil change today. Looks like it won't be happening although I wonder what would happen if I went to an underground car park in a shopping centre and did an oil change there :pac:

With the right tools it would take less than 30 minutes so I don't see the problem. :)
